Permalinks are actually part of the website address that follows the domain name. It points to specific pages and posts that are on your website. Permalinks have particular purposes.

  • They are really a unique identification for every post and page you create on your website.
  • They are used by search engines to find the topic of your pages and posts directly from the URLs.
  • They provide a permanent place for search engines and visitors to go to see your content.
  • Visitors can get a quick understanding of what your content is about without actually seeing the content.

There will be times when you may need to change or modify the posts or page permalink. So, let’s see how that can be done.

For the purpose of this training, I have created situations to show how we “accidentally” change our page/post permalinks.

Hi
I have just restarted a blog I was unhappy with. What I have noticed is I now have the date in my permalink, Should I change this in settings to custom in order to erase the date portion of the permlink.

The only way I would alter the permalink settings would be if it was something other than what is shown in the above image. The custom structure should be ticked and in the white box it should show /%postname%

If your custom structure is correct in the permalink structure, then you can follow the examples to change the permalink for your posts/pages as shown in the training.

I created a new post recently and misspelt the word "entrepreneur" (as "entrepreur"!)... so I may need to revisit this training to make the correction. Thanks for this!
