After I deleted the original “TEST” post from the trash bin, my re-created “TEST” post will now look like this:

In this scenario, once the original “TEST” post was deleted from the trash bin, the permalink automatically removed the “2” from the permalink. All is well.

This scenario was about showing you the incorrect way of deleting a post or page and then re-creating it using the same exact page/post title.

Now let’s go over the easy and correct way of doing it.

Step 1: If you want to use the same post/page title of one that you deleted, you must first delete that page/post from the trash bin.

Step 2: Add the new page/post using the same page title. This will automatically assign the correct permalink without that ugly “2”.

Step 3: Click “Update”. It’s just that easy!

I think many newer members have come across this scenario and didn’t know why it was happening or what to do about it. The main thing to remember is that you should really plan what your page/post title is going to be before you add a post or page. Since it is better to include the keyword in your page/post title, your titled should be the next thing you consider after finding a keyword.

Once you create a page or post, you cannot change the page title without affecting the original permalink.

Hi
I have just restarted a blog I was unhappy with. What I have noticed is I now have the date in my permalink, Should I change this in settings to custom in order to erase the date portion of the permlink.

The only way I would alter the permalink settings would be if it was something other than what is shown in the above image. The custom structure should be ticked and in the white box it should show /%postname%

If your custom structure is correct in the permalink structure, then you can follow the examples to change the permalink for your posts/pages as shown in the training.

I created a new post recently and misspelt the word "entrepreneur" (as "entrepreur"!)... so I may need to revisit this training to make the correction. Thanks for this!
