TIP 6 - Go for the close

So you've delivered your message in a way that your reader now realizes that they simply can't be without your product or service. It's now time for the close! Enter your final 'Call To Action'.

By the way, if you're wondering why I have headed this page with Lieutenant Columbo, stay with me... there's a good reason!

Provide a strong call to action

Your call to action can take many forms, but in the case of a sales page it would be a 'Buy It Now' or 'Add To Basket' button. If you're an affiliate marketer then your call to action will be your review's button, prompt or affiliate link to your vendor's product page.

Whatever your situation, your call to action needs to be strong. Precede your link or button with a short one-line reminder of the pain or inconvenience that the reader will experience without your product, and how these problems will all be solved with just a click of your page's call to action.

Then ask your reader outright to buy now! If you don't, you'll almost certainly miss out on the sale. Salespeople regularly use this technique in shops, asking a closed question of something like "So do we have a deal?" or simply "Are you ready to place your order?". You really can't be hesitant about asking for the sale.

However, as e-commerce is online, there are no awkward face-to-face silences to contend with! So we don't need to use any hard sell here. We simply need to offer a clear and obvious button that says something akin to "Buy Now", "Download Today" or "Join Us Here".

Oh... and one more thing

I couldn't finish a 'closing' lesson without a mention of our good friend Lieutenant Columbo. His "Oh, and more thing" line is a way for us as sellers to finish the page with a reminder of the opportunity available on your page.

When your reader gets to the end of your page, without making a purchase, it can be a way to change their mind. As a rule, readers tend to put any lingering doubts of a purchase to one side, and your price tag to the other side. So now's your opportunity to remind them on what they're about to miss out on, and how, without it, their problem remains.

Hopefully this tutorial has helped you think about why some of your sales or affiliate review pages may not be converting as well as you'd like them to, and given you some new ideas about how to remedy this.

Oh... One more thing... As with all of my posts, I'm always grateful to those who LIKE my tutorials. Feel free to also comment with any feedback or ask any questions that you may have in the comments section below.

Thank you sir! :-)

Thanks Jim. You are very kind. Don't worry, these can all be implemented in good time. These are tips to give you a head start, over and above what the training offers here at WA - which of course is fantastic in itself. Good luck.

can you give an example of a subtitle that would stop a scroller/page scanner like you then? lol

Haha... That's a good question Mary. I should include an example shouldn't i.... I shall amend this. You could use something like "STOP PRESS:... ' or "If you read nothing else..." or "All you need to know about....." or "This is how XYZ helped Mrs L in the UK". That kind of thing. Something that at a glance will help me get the salient points immediately, for me to then be able to make a purchase decision.
