Hi everyone,
I'm really excited to see that I've recently been seeing an uplift in WA sign up conversions, though interestingly, none have yet completed their profile!

Sean,
The only way I would think would be to add a tracking link
to each of your posts that contain WA sign up's and this
might take you some time to go back and complete :(

Yes... that had occurred to me. But like you say, I have hundreds of such links :-/

But thanks for the idea.

Sean

Great question Sean. I've looked before as well and haven't found exactly what I was looking for, or I just misunderstood what I found at the time.

How to get a handle on this would be a great topic for a weekly webinar. Setting up a system early on would make a world of difference.

It would take weeks or months for me to clean up the mess of links and entry points I've left behind over the last couple years.

I have a handful of links being tracked using clickmagik but now with so many blog posts, pages, pdfs, emails, social media posts and on and on lol... I must have thousands of links out there and I have no idea where my referrals come from.

I use 'pretty links' as well, and Bit.ly for a few links... so I have a good idea of where my referrals are NOT coming from... but as far as conversion tracking and knowing what works best... I'm completely blind.

I'll keep an eye on your question here to see if anyone has some good recommendations.

Thanks,
Jay

Hi Jay,
Sounds like I'm not the only with a myriad links out there, and no idea what traffic they are generating. I must check out Clickmagik - I've not come across that before. Like you, I also use Bit.ly and 'Pretty Links' but I don't see how this would help me know which of these links aren't generating referrals at WA? Am I missing something here?

Anyway, since reading Robert's reply below, I have gone into Google Analytics for my sites and set up completion goals, so hopefully that will at least tell me how many are coming from these. I can also do the same for PPC - as described in the video link from Robert below. That, I think leaves just direct traffic and social generated traffic, which I think counts for most of my referrals to WA - though I'm not 100%. Some insight on this would be useful.

I agree, this would make a great weekly webinar. I'm assuming there isn't one already? I will check.

Thanks again Jay.

Sean

No you're not missing anything, lol. I just didn't explain it very well. I can tell they're not generating referrals because they have zero clicks 😀

Clickmagik is good, but a little complex and unfortunately, not free.

When it comes to tracking, Pretty Links is Pretty useless. Not sure if you have the same problem but it records all of the bot traffic. I've even set up some bot blockers... but just yesterday I updated a post for a different affiliate program (not WA) that maybe gets a dozen views per day... but according to Pretty Links my affiliate link was clicked 4800 times by a single IP.

I check it periodically for hits on certain links by unique IP's but that just gives a rough idea of traffic, not conversions.

Otherwise, I really have no idea where my referrals are coming from. In my WA stats the vast majority just show up under "Website Join". But there are a dozen other entry points that I'm not even familiar with, and then I have a bunch of custom links I've set up.

If I knew where I was generating those "Website Join" referrals I'd drive all of my traffic there (and identify what's working so I can apply it to my custom links), but...

I'm torn, because tracking is not something you really want to teach someone before they have traffic. It's just a distraction and in most cases, discouraging when you're new.

On the other hand... it's a mess to sort out later, lol.

Type the words

track conversions

into your grey question box at the top of your screen and you will get choices of blogs/trainings to choose from

Thanks Robert.
Yes, I tried that but for some reason my Chrome browser is playing up today and won't allow me to search!!! So I gave up and thought that I'd post the question instead. I'll persevere... I know it's my browser. Maybe I'll try it in Safari.

Thanks for your help.
