How to search for competition

Once again, things have just gotten a little easier. Thank you Google. The way we find competition is to go to Google, and type in (in quotations) our keyword. For example if you chose puppy obedience training then you would type: “puppy obedience training.” Got it?

To the right of the word search, it says “about 112,000 results” that means that there are that many websites trying to rank for that keyword. What we’re looking for is competition below about 20,000, so this keyword wouldn’t work. Go ahead and choose another keyword that you find to your liking and do the Google Competition test until you find one that fits the right criteria. Over 3,000 searches per month (or 2,000 or 5,000 or whatever you decided you can handle), and below 20,000 competing websites, although I wouldn’t turn up my nose at a traffic rich keyword that had 25,000. To be honest, I actually ranked for a keyword that had 80,000 other competing sites, and on top of that, I did it quite by accident… Not sure how, but it’s possible!

If you don’t like the way I do this, I found another training module here at WA that shows a different method to “test the waters” for competition so to say. It’s actually pretty cool and I would check it out by clicking this link.

Do the guy a favor and hit that wonderful like button and leave a comment or two for him.
This method is different from mine, but that doesn’t make it wrong… or mine for that matter.

Wrap it up!

Once you have found the keyword(s) that fit your criteria you should check them using only "exact" for a more accurate view of searches and competition.

That's probably true, but I don't usually go back and recheck after I find my criteria. is that something that you think I should add to the training?

Exactly, the only way I truly gauge a keyword I am going to use is exact match. Good point.
