Change the filters

Okay, now that you’re at the keyword tool, let me tell you how to work the magic. At the left hand corner there’s a box that should be checked “broad” and one below it that says “exact.” Below that there’s a green bar that says, “saved ideas” to the right of this there’s a minus sign (-) click it to minimize the saved ideas panel. Once that’s done, you have revealed another check box! (kind of like finding buried treasure isn’t it?) This new check box is what we want.

Don’t mess this part up! I’ve screwed this one up before and it cost me a grand total of ten bucks… Could be worse, but still. Anyway, make sure to get this part right. The check box we just revealed is labeled “phrase” Check it. Now, go up and uncheck the check box labeled “broad” That will throw us off big time, get rid of it. So now, just to clarify, we have the “phrase” box checked, and nothing else.

Now, to the right of the check boxes, but underneath the search box there’s a little blue button called “advanced options” (hint: it looks kind of like a link) We’re internet marketers, we’re about as advanced as it gets. This button is what we want. Once you click it, a light blue menu will open up and you’re going to want to change the options to “all countries” to the left of that there should be a language filter. Leave it alone, We’re speaking English.

Now go down to the bottom of the blue menu to the box that says “local monthly searches” click the drop box and select “global monthly searches” we work on the internet, we want the traffic from all over the world! Not just our local area, that’s right, we’re getting traffic now!
Once that painful work is over your screen should look like this:

Now isn’t that pretty?

Traffic Filter

Once you have found the keyword(s) that fit your criteria you should check them using only "exact" for a more accurate view of searches and competition.

That's probably true, but I don't usually go back and recheck after I find my criteria. is that something that you think I should add to the training?

Exactly, the only way I truly gauge a keyword I am going to use is exact match. Good point.
