Does your back or seat bother you?
Hello PC warrios
How many hours a day do you sit behind a screen, in the car or in front of the television?
Do you consider how you sit?
Often not.
Until back problems arise.
Sitting is the most stressful position for your back. With prolonged sitting your pelvis tilts backwards and your lower back tends to collapse. This puts a heavy load on your back.
Good sitting is important for the body, but how do you feel good? And how does your chair help with this?
Back complaints
Sitting up straight is the best thing for us. But if the dimensions of a chair are not good, you automatically lower down. The vertebrae in your spine are overloaded in this way because your pelvis is not positioned properly. It results in back problems with, for example, a hernia as a result.
7 basic conditions for ergonomic sitting
How can a chair prevent you from having back problems?
The seven basic conditions below ensure that a chair offers optimum support exactly where your body needs it.
This makes sitting comfortably healthy.
The seven basic conditions for ergonomic sitting are:
1. Neck vertebra support
2. Spine support
3. Correct armrest height
4. Joint support
5. Right seating area
6. Ideal seat depth
7. Ideal seat height
No one is alike.
Differences in height, weight and physique determine which chair suits you best. By customizing seat height, seat depth, back and arm height, your body can relax optimally. A customized chair is a start to a life without back pain.
Tips for good sitting
But watch out!
You can still sit very wrong in a good chair. You are always in the right place with the tips below.
1. Make sure that both feet are resting on the floor.
2. Your knees make an angle of 90 degrees. Relax your legs.
3. Keep your shoulders low and support your arms on an armrest. That way your shoulders can also relax well.
4. Keep your back straight. Are you sitting for a long time? Provide support in the lower back, because no one can sit up for a long time without collapsing occasionally.
5. Pay attention to the position of your head. Keep your head upright and not too much forward.
Sitting properly is quite difficult, but with the right chair you make it a lot easier for yourself. Therefore always adjust your chair to your wishes and needs and always take your personal characteristics such as leg and arm length into account when purchasing a new sofa or chair.
Are you sitting correctly while working behind the screen?
Take you time to relax in between and you will be more productive!!

Good tips. Thank you. Dkohara is right - this could be your niche.
I'm looking for a good and affordable desk chair right now. Not easy to find for me because I'm only 5' short. My biggest problem seems to be that no matter how adjustable, the depth of the seat is too long for me; I would like my knees to bend properly.
You have a great day too, Tommy.
Thanks, Tommy for this educative post. On average, I spend 10-13 hours daily working on the PC. I do a lot of freelancing IT and writing jobs. Often times, I find it difficult to stand straight. what I do now is to force myself to stand up after every hour, stretch my legs. My wife has been helpful with her massaging.
Do you mean loin support? I saw you wrote loan support
Great post Tommy. Great information about back and how you sit whiich affects pain. Believe me after all my surgeries and my chronic severe pain, sitting is a major problem for me. Nothing seems to help me except getting up every 15-20 minutes and walking around and doing something else for a few minutes.
I really enjoyed reading your posts and it is very informative.
Thanks for the insight.
Danny
Nice post and thanks for the share.
I like to stand when at the screen.
Standing helps me to focus better and keeps me from getting stiff in the back and neck. I prolapsed a couple of disks in my neck a few years back, so I have to be careful how my posture is when sitting. Standing also can be a issue if the screen is to low.
Hope you have a wonderful day
Cheers
Dave
Thanks, Dave,
in any modern office they have now these days these adjustable desks to work at then can go up to a standing position
Tommy
Hi Tommy
Takes me back to when I was in the health and safety team at work. The only thing they taught us was how to do seating audits. Sadly, I don't have an ergonomic chair at home and honestly I am the worst for posture! Sleeping position is a real back-killer too. All my life I have slept on my tummy - sooo bad for you. I am trying to remedy this but it is so hard to break the habit of a lifetime.
Anyway folk, take Tommy's advice, he's right, I know, I used to do seating audits.
Wah, Health and Safety for Wealthy Affiliates! This is the sort of advice I got when I was an office worker, the difficulty I had was convincing my employer to buy me the chair!
At least when we’re looking after ourselves financially we can also look after ourselves physically. Thanks for the reminder Tommy. It’s especially important when we move around to work.

A great post, my problem isn't my back but I get really fat ankles from sitting too long.
Do some little movement exercise same what they advise you on a long flight.
Thank you maybe I will turn on some rock roll and dance a bit :)
Google "sitting at desk leg exercises" and many info will pop up for exercise while sitting at your desk
Haha this is a great niche lol
