Perfectionism! Curse or Cure?

As a reply to Kyle's recent post:

I wrote already: "Why don't I got that feeling it reflects my 10 months building to what I launched Kyle?
Hmm? lol, yup there is truth to your article, and people do yourself the favor and listen to Kyle, well I did this to myself just in time, before he published his article. :P

Hmm it must have to do with getting down from my horse of perfectionism lol. Am I one? Maybe, maybe a little bit.
Let's analyze shall we?
1. Niche
As Kyle suggests, only concentrate on one niche and don't try to do many websites at the same time. (I did, and no it won't work, believe me... ;)) )
2. But what if I have an all in one crazy out of the box one?
As Kyles suggests, only concentrate on one, unless you believe you can manage that and have enough time to build it to get launched in time...
Yeah about that, I did that, I did point 2, as Kyle also teaches us to think out of the box and try out new things. I just did that and moved myself into more trouble as you can ever imagine, but it was worth it!
I learned a lot, I made many mistakes along my way to build this out of the box project. I bought many plugins and things I do not need, as at that moment you want to add all your little ideas to your project, making it "perfect" from the beginning on, before you launch.
3. Too Many Bells & Whissles Can Hurt You!
Folks, that won't work, unless you have a team of 10 people or more around you, so you can coordinate and build it together. So basically you are wasting time, money and recourses you do not need to get your project started.
However on the other hand, I learned this now the hard way and that means I know now how to be a better website project developper and will just do better in the next things to come.
If you want to add newer ideas, by the time you have time to add it, newer plugins and solutions will be available and that is the better approach now. :)
4. Launch When Ready! Not Wait To Be Perfect!
So what made me from stopping launching? Was my egg as above not perfect, did I had to color it more Orange as I thought it is not Orange enough and then when you add more you see to add more on another place of your egg? You will never get launched if you follow up on that never ending cycle.
Although my project is special, I had to make sure enough content is there to make my project appear as such project and I knew I could only launch having a minimum of x blog posts in the genres representing my project.
And that is ok, then there is the Design, User feeling, Social connection, Keywords, Compatibility and many other things that need shape as well. My advise is, make the basic things work and continue on improving after launch.
Conclusion!
I wanted to have all the errors out before launching, but people believe me, that is not possible, we always forget something or oversee a little error. Even bigger errors. But it won't matter, as long your design, look and feeling, the minimum amount of quality content, the right keywords, your social media connections and your GDPR as well Terms and Conditions are setup, you are good to go.
So that is what I did, after implementing the GDPR I launched, because if I don't I will never be ready and get launched. And it was good to do that, as the general response is great. I am on my way now and along my way make the improvements needed.
Nothing is perfect, no one should try to be perfect, but try to do your best and let the rest come to you, and it will, you shall see!

I was pleased to see you saying that nothing and no one is perfect.
There are a lot of people out there that like to think that they are perfect but there is no one in this world who is perfect I don't think.
I wouldn't like to be perfect, that would be something to keep that up day after day. You would have no time at all to have fun for watching that you did not slip up at any time at all. xxx
Computers are perfect in this kind of way, only 0 or 1 there is no in between, now if we add A.I. it won't be perfect anymore...

For some jobs perfectionists are a must. For unknown reasons the word got a negative connotation. Believe me, i prefer perfectionists when building up...
That is why we need chaos around us. Ever had that case that your girlfriend cleans up and then you can't find your things back, that is fun! lol :)
We are human, and without errors we won't grow, let it come naturally and all will fall in place.

The point is to love what we all do when we work to build our website, we all get better and our website will do better too!

Thanks for this post, Stefan. I struggle with perfectionism, especially since I used to work as a proofreader and really don't want misteaks (ha) in my writing. You are correct, none of us is perfect, and if we keep wasting time trying to perfect things (like I've been known to do), we never accomplish our goals. I'm also hesitant to try new things sometimes. Your post helps with both items. Appreciate you (and your sense of humor, too!)

Couldn't agree with you more...without fun, why bother? I'd be happy to proofread for you, but how do I keep from getting red ink on my monitor??
Use Black, Blue or Green? I heard you can even use fluorescent ink, visible day and night :P
Back in the day we used the dreaded red pen on paper! I like the idea of invisible ink better, though! Fluorescent would be fun, too. Only one question....how do we get it off the screen after you make your corrections??
