7 Reasons Why I Do Not Follow Everyone on FaceBook! Build Your Brand!
Dear readers,
Here is a follow up on my recent post about FaceBook, which you can read here:

Why I Do Not Follow Everyone on FaceBook!
After several days of getting to know how spammers and scammers act, I have decided to change my policy who to accept and who not. I urge each and everyone of you to check your followers as you brand yourself with them and other followers or people interested in you may see it as unprofessional having these followers.
Use Facebook as your personal branding and add a page over time for your business. I see FaceBook as a social platform to connect socially with my friends, and so I like to keep it. If I want to see advertisements or other, I can use Twitter for that.
Build Your Brand!
I will not use FaceBook as pure advertisement platform, I believe it is important to build relationships with our followers and help them if we can, build trust, so advertisement is not the way to go. We have many other social platforms we can use that for. FaceBook is different. Well that is my opinion.
So I have put together a list of don'ts concerning accepting who to accept, this is my opinion and advise, feel free to do your own. This is my policy towards anyone.
7 Reasons Not To Follow Everyone!
Avoid:
1) accounts with mass advertisements; on other social platforms I have no problems with it, but on FB I have many friends who do not want to be confronted with advertisement accounts, so it is also a responsibility of ours to accept those fitting the more social connection on FaceBook, as that is what FaceBook is about, just my 2 cents to it.
2) erotic accounts, you can see it on the photos posted on these accounts and the text postings (they all look similar) with links. You dont want that be branded on your profile...
3) Purely WA advertising accounts, first it is advertisement, second you have your own, and thus in competition with your own. A normal niche with some WA info is acceptable I think
4) Religious accounts in any form
5) Political accounts in any form
6) accepting accounts who are getting you in a chat, those you do not know, unfriend, as in most cases these are spammers and scammers.
7) Strange looking accounts: no postings at all, old creation date, following is a risk as you do not know what will be posted one day..., see point 1-5
If I find more I let you know. :)
8) Accounts with less as 10 followers, mostly these are accounts trying to get you into a chat, see Loes her experience in the comments, so check the account.
And what do you think my dear friends, does this make sense to you?

Excelenent post yes I have stumbled upon this numerous times before where people are trying to get you to buy something even when you have said your not interested. Hence the reason I'm not a facebook fan. Not that I'm much of a social platform type of girl.
The only reason I started using it again was because of WA and several of my friends who wanted to connect with me through their groups.... I am sorry to hear you have such experiences and hope all will get better for you.
Thank you James, have a look on your followers now... ;)
Let me know if you need help, glad to assist you my friend. :))
This is so true, I only follow certain people myself knowing the amount of weird people out there, Thanks for this
We live in a weird world, asking ourselves why those weird people using those platforms, do they have nothing else to do? Unfortunately many fall for it, I hope this article can help to avoid this from happening in the future.

I have many issues with blindly accepting friend request. Many men are looking for intimate relationships and the minute I accept a request they are either calling me or sending me inappropriate instant messages. You really have to be careful. It is very frustrating.
That is just gross, why is FaceBook not throwing such people from the platform wonders me....
Could it not be an idea we all share creepy accounts so we do not follow them in the first place? Is there a tool to manage that? hmmm
Hi Sheila,
Great to hear, we all learn from experience, stay safe, happy to count you to my followers as you are keeping those accounts away from me. :))
Stefan
I don´t follow men who are not having at least 10 shared friends. Most of the men have no shared friends, the first thing they say is: Hello gorgeous, followed by, can we talk? Followed by, are you single? Followed by an obscene picture.
I avoid FB as the plague
Argh that is indeed bad, sorry to hear you had that experience Loes, You got a point, I will add this to the list.
There are also accounts with 500-1000 followers but nothing posted for years and if, mostly change of profile photo...
Thank you Loes.
Best,
Stefan :)
The right way, hmm no one ever said gorgeous to me in a chat, well that would be even more strange... :))
I don't like FaceBook either for the same very reasons, but now Instagram is getting just as bad.
I have people following me, I go to their page and they have no posts, but they will have a link. Click on the link and it's some kind of porn site or something.
UGH, I'm beginning to hate social media altogether.

Absolutely agree with you Kenny, perhaps we should change our thinking how to use both platforms, more as a fan page people can follow, and it will be over with those kind of followers. :)
At least this is the way I will build. Some thoughts for you.

Good question, it would be nice if Tony Hamilton can tune in, he is an expert on Instagram, he might be able to give some advise on this. I didn't post anything there yet, just building the account and start posting ones my website goes live.
Agreed - and very good approach to accepting friend requests! I have had this issue on other sites as well. Most Social media is my biggest trouble, I loathe it. Even LinkedIN, I have had men request a connection (in my industry, check, executive or business owner, check, good network, check), and then after an intro or me making a probe... then I get the inappropriate comments. It's really challenging as a female business owner that has arrived at coffee appointments only to find out someone has other ideas besides a consultation. It's insulting to me as professional, online, or in person.
This way of acting from these followers, I call that ugly trolling, wait is trolling not punishable by law? Especially if these are business people? It might vary by country, but I know some countries have laws to prosecute such people. I also think it is a responsibility for the platform to remove such "entities" from the platform.
Hi Kenny,
Stefan asked for me to answer your question my Friend.
You can have a Business page at Instagram, it's not called a Fan page but you can also connect your Facebook Fan page if you would like to.
Let me know that the above helps to answer your question Kenny,
Tony
Thank you Tony for your help, much appreciated! :)
Would you advise to connect Facebook with Instagram or have it separated?
Stefan
