Website Loading Speed
I was having problems with my site’s performance not being up to par and ended up using two plugins that really helped me quite a bit and wanted to share them with you.
One is Lazy Load by WP Rocket. Lazy Load by WP Rocket will only display images when they are visible to the user. Since I am using "featured images" on each of my posts, this plugin is an enormous help. The other one I installed is AMP which helps remove unneeded CSS (among other duties accoding to the writeup on it).
I'm not a big fan of using to many plugin’s, since they can actually slow down your site's loading speed.
But these two together helped me improve my speed by over 10%. What I’m particularly pleased with is the increase in the mobile loading speed which increased to 93 from 84.
Increasing the loading speed for me is critical because according to Google Analytics, 21.1% of my customer sessions are on a mobile/tablet device. As you know, these devices don’t have the horsepower that a desktop has, so loading speeds tend to be much slower on smart phones, tablets, etc...and slow speeds can equate to lost readers or customers.
(Just FYI, the theme I am utilizing is Salinger Pro and I’ve made sure my Wordpress version is up to date so plugin comparability has not been an issue).
Another way to keep your site running more efficiently is to use the trash can!! Yup, make sure you remove any unused themes you might have hanging around, removing unpublished draft pages and/or posts also helps as does keeping down the number of images you use. Be sure you're also optimizing your images as well.
Jerry Huang, among others, has an excellent and very thorough instructional session on this topic at:

Be sure to check it out.
Another super additional source of information on this topic which I found to be fairly easy (I’m not a tech head) to understand is:

Happy loading...

Hi Tim - we could do with all the help we can get to increase speed :-)
The problem I have with G's PageSpeed is that it is so erratic. I've haf consecutive reading vary by 20 pts within a minute.
I use Lazy Load.
I tried AMP but quickly remvoed it (removing it is not as easy as removing the plugin!) although I know some people who like it.
Thanks for sharing.
Ian
Thanks for the feedback Ian. Good information to know. Have you tried Autoptimize?
Yes, it's currently enabled.
I have several plugins I keep trying (and deactivating afterwards) to try to get the speed up. Also tried a3 Lazy Load, Better Resource Hints, Fast Velocity Minify and others.
Ironically, G AdSense slows down your site massively,
PafeSpeed makes it near-impossible to get an accurate reading on what your speed is so I tweak a bit and then find something more profitable to do :-)
