BUYER BEWARE!

There is a saying here abbreviated as SOS. That represents Shining Object Syndrome. Beware of getting caught by this.

I had hardly been here a week when the first e-mails started coming into my inbox. (BTW, it made me wonder whether there are spies here for these Gurus?) Gurus are the people trying to sell you these packages.

They were headed by slogans such as “How to make $500-00 a day easily”, “Let us show you how to be the next Internet millionaire”, “Just 3 or 5 or 7 clicks can earn you a fortune”, etc.

They then proceed to show you screenshots of accounts as “proof” of what they are earning, followed by a “demonstration” of how their program works and how easy it is to operate. They tell you that you don’t need any experience; you just need to know how to click with your computer’s mouse.

They go into lengthy brag sessions of the millions they are making off the internet.

If you do not swallow the bait immediately, they offer you “hand-held-training” that is basically about the same topics available on WA but nowhere near as comprehensive. Normally, very superficially presented.

Well, this got me thinking! If I had a system that made me millions, would I just go around handing it out to everyone with, 37, 79, 97 or 997 dollars? (Yes, these are the amounts they charge for their “wisdom”.)

Why would I create a lot of opposition to my very successful business if it is bringing in millions of dollars?

Then they tell you that there is still more. You also need such and such to make your life even easier. You can have all this for only another couple of hundred dollars.

I have read comments by people who actually bought these “Miracle Products” and they all report the same result. No magical earnings achieved and no response from the sellers when approached about this.

There are no shortcuts to building an Internet Marketing Business! You have to understand the basic workings and do the initiating work yourself. Otherwise you will not see any results.

WAU already offers you all this needed information. All you need to do is learn it, apply it and keep on trying. Yes, there are some speed bumps along the way, but nothing life threatening. If you are determined and steadfast, you will see results.

Here’s to your success, and be careful out there!

Alot of scam artists out there! About two weeks ago my husband and I started with our first online business and we recieved a check for $1396.00. The only thing that they were asking was for us to wire a small portion back as some sort of verification. That should have been a red flag BUT it never crossed our minds and we did the transfer after we deposited the check into our personal bank acct. For whatever reason we decided to wait and send the receiving code the next day. Since I had just lost my job in the beginning of December we were in shock as to how quickly we made this money and felt so blessed. That same evening I ended up finding a blog about this certain company making the exact same promises and mailing out the same ck amounts. Turns out they are sending fake checks. Luckily my husband and I had not spent all the money we went back to Western Union and cancelled the wire and were able to put everything back in our account. It still through us off because we paid a few extra bills to get them out of the way quicker and decided to treat our kids out. I'm just glad we didn't stay in debt with the bank!

There's a new one born every minute. Good thing you were careful. Blessings!

very true theo - i got caught several times along the way thinking that this was finally the one - only to find more upsells and frustration - the fact that i knew somewhere there was a legitimate way to learn and apply this business is what kept me looking - it's too bad people don't know the warning signs to a scam until after they've been burned - too bad they don't come with a label like a cigarette pack!

We live and we learn. Lets hope we save a few people some money.

Thanks very much for the great advice.

You are welcome Janice!

Great post, and I think all Newbies should have this as their day one reading
Regards
Hudson

Thanks for the comment Hudson!

Thank you for the post! We do have all we need here at WA. I got an email today in my account here and that is the first one I got in a long time. I don't like it. But, it happens. What really gets me though is for one person that is a member here and has been for a long time is not promoting those "shiny things" though my private email not the one here.

Of course, in the past I had given it to her. But, of all people I never thought she would be sending these to me now, because she always preached to stay away from them. That makes me wonder why? She must be making some money doing it or she wouldn't be doing it. But, no worries, I haven't bought into it! I want to earn my money by offering a product or a service and not robbing someone. lol

Best of Wishes to You
Mary

Thank you for your contribution Mary. My aim was to make new members aware of the pitfalls out there and that they are nothing but scams! We live and we learn. Blessings!

There is no such thing as overnight success. In order to create any success, you have to be willing to work for it. In order to do it efficiently, you have to first understand the fundamentals to online business...what we teach here at Wealthy Affiliate via the certification.

Once you understand the fundamentals and you have a sound foundation in place, the sky is the limit. There are no limitations to what you can achieve online and there is no marketplace bigger (2 billion people). The opportunity is there and it is big enough for all of us, you just have to want it.

And avoid the SOS (shiny objects). I can assure you that most of the "GURUS" wouldn't be able to implement their own so called "secret" techniques they are selling. If you are a member of WA, you have absolutely everything you need to succeed here. The training, the tools, the services, the support, and the community behind you!

Amen Kyle!

Thanks for a great post Theos. TOO many times in the past did I get sucked in by those promises to quick wealth, do-nothing-money trees and the ultimate "SHINY OBJECT" scams!

Some time ago I learned that if we don't educate ourselves, we are subject to the vain and empty promises that simply suck the life out of us. WAU is the place that all that stopped for me. What I have learned to this point has brought in my first "legitimate" sale and has placed one of my "keyword targeted" posts on page three of Google!

No, I haven't made the quick $500, $1000, or $5000 daily deluge of big money, but I have knowledge that you can't put a price on. May take me a while, but I'm on my way without the shiny objects!

David

Right on David! There is only one right way to do things! Blessings!

I might add, the Clickbank screen shots are Photoshoped. what they do is make up a number of photoshop Clickbank pay stubs with the time & dates like they want them. Remember when they say they are going to Clickbank live....You DO NOT have anyway of knowing if that is where they went, or just a powerpoint screen.

Like Thoes said, I have seen a program start at $97.00, and every time you try to leave the page they drop the price. One I was looking at did this over 5 times.
Bob

Thank you for adding that Bob. It seems these people will stop at nothing to try and swindle potential customers. Best wishes!

Well said Theos. Someone like your good self obviously does not need any coaching. With your experience and training you clearly do not need another business. On the other hand if you want to hear about my success with the number 1 Alexa rated business in the world please get back to me. We should talk.

Hello Gene! Thanks for the comment, but I need as much coaching as the next guy. This is all very new to me and I need to learn a lot still. I am always open to new opportunities, but the system will not allow me to list my e-mail here.. Best wishes!
Let me try something. It is: swart dot theo at gmail dot com! Hope you can decipher that.

Only one has my money, but I find the 37 dollar one interesting. I don't even remember all I explored. Hated Ed Dale. BORing. I still like Skip McGrath, and watch someone on Roku. So sue me. I'm fickle.

They even go down to $9. Believe it or not. They tried hard to snare me. I don't think there is anything fickle, just the human desire of finding shortcuts which do not exist. Blessings!
