The Image Size Cheat Sheet
People are always asking what size should their images should be. Here is a rather quick post and your image size cheat sheet.
The best size for a website image depends on the type of image and how it will be used on the site:
- Hero image: A 16:9 ratio is recommended, with a width of 1500–2560 pixels. 1920 pixels wide is a common choice because it matches the width of most browsers in North America.
- Blog image: A 3:2 aspect ratio is recommended, with a width of 1200 pixels.
- Logo: A rectangle logo should be 400 x 100 pixels, with a 4:1 aspect ratio. A square logo should be 100 x 100 pixels, with a 1:1 aspect ratio.
- Favicon: A favicon should be 16 x 16 pixels, with a 1:1 aspect ratio.
- Background image: A 16:9 aspect ratio is recommended, with dimensions of 1920 x 1080 pixels.
- Website banner: A 1:1 aspect ratio is recommended, with dimensions of 250 x 250 pixels.
- Full width images: A recommended size is 2400 x 1600 pixels.
- Inside content images: A maximum horizontal width of 1500 pixels and a maximum vertical width of 1000 pixels is recommended.
The recommended size for a Facebook post image is 1,200 x 630 pixels with an aspect ratio of 1.91:1:
- Landscape: 1,200 x 630 pixels
- Square: 1,080 x 1,080 pixels
- Portrait: 1,080 x 1,350 pixels
The best size for an Instagram post depends on whether it's a square, landscape, or vertical image:
- Square: 1080 x 1080 pixels with a 1:1 aspect ratio
- Landscape: 1080 x 566 pixels with a 1.91:1 aspect ratio
- Vertical: 1080 x 1350 pixels with a 4:5 aspect ratio
The recommended size for Pinterest pins is 1,000 x 1,500 pixels, which is a 2:3 aspect ratio:
- Size: The recommended size is 1,000 x 1,500 pixels, but the minimum size is 600 x 900 pixels.
- Aspect ratio: The recommended aspect ratio is 2:3 for standard pins, shopping ads, and app install ads.
- File size: The maximum image file size is 20 MB.
