The Good, the Bad, and the Kinda Ugly

The Good—My 24-year-old equine news website, HorsesintheSouth.com, successfully moved to Wealthy Affiliate yesterday. I was ecstatic when it was completed! It was so easy to do. I’ve moved this monster site before, and it wasn't easy. This site has undergone many design and development changes, including database changes. After all these years of being a primarily equine news aggregator, I thought the site was too big. I have been posting press releases from all over the world sent to me from equine competition news sites.
The Bad – Actually, this is more of me being ‘stupid’ and not so bad except for why did I wait so long to move it? I could have saved myself $100/month (the bad part)! I’ve been here since October 2022. I became a WA Premium Plus member in the Spring of 2023 with the plan to move all of my websites to WA. I wasn’t sure HorsesintheSouth.com would qualify since it is a mainly equine news site, and I get paid sometimes for betting posts.
The Kinda Ugly – In the meantime, I just found out I have breast cancer. It’s small now, so I'm hoping surgery will get it all, and I don’t need chemo. What’s ‘kinda ugly’ is that I’m getting a mastectomy. Just on the affected side now, and later, I will have the other side done. I have a lot of cysts I’ve been bothered with for my whole grown-up life. This will affect my work here since this will entail 3-4 surgeries at least to complete the process, leaving me lopsided for a year.
Last week, when I found out about ‘the Ugly’ part, I was crushed. I had no idea it was cancer. I’ve had eight surgeries to remove cysts, so in the back of my head, this was just another bothersome surgery. I had already decided on a double mastectomy so I wouldn’t be bothered anymore about a cancer scare. Well, too late for that.
Now that it has sunk in, I’m just going with the flow and working to get stuff done before surgery on May 29th.

The site you just moved- why do we wait on moving forward? I know we are all human, and to delay progress seems normal. Glad you got the move completed.

I didn't move it because I didn't think I could. I didn't want to spend the 2 weeks, late nights on the phone w support, sometimes all night, to do the move.
I didn't realize that the support here was so good and did most of the work for you. This was also my only website then, and it couldn't be down.
My son is my editor/assistant webmaster, and I, as owner/CEO when it was incorporated (1 owner-me), along with contractors for development and graphic design, made this site look like a big company. My competitors have a bunch of people on staff, lol.
So, I hesitated until this cancer thing made me send an email just asking for support. Next, they asked for the URL and creds. BAM! It was on the staging site! And it was OK!
I was amazed and totally elated :)
I must be in my 'writing-2weeks' mode... I wrote a ton above, lol!

I try to see the positive side of things. The website's move totally perked me up, lol. It's amazing what the human mind can do. I had been feeling like just sleeping to forget, but the move happened, and it changed my feelings back to 'good'. Now I feel like getting stuff done on my list.

I've been praying for rain when we were so dry the past couple of weeks, but now I want sun to get stuff done outside b4 my surgery.
We have a new Coleman above-ground pool to finish installing and I want to swim and lie in the sun a few days :)

I'm used to having surgeries, lol. This will be my 10th.
Along with three 'female' surgeries, I've had brain surgery for a benign meningioma which gave me left-sided migraines along with the standard right-sided migraines, two shoulder surgeries, knee surgery, carpal tunnel surgeries...
I'm a survivor.

My better half, Sharon, is just over 3 weeks past surgery number 7. Seven years ago she decided to have a bi-lateral mastectomy with immediate reconstruction. She also didn't want to ever deal with the cancer scare again. That part of her surgery was successful, but capsular contracture (basically scar tissue) has been the problem for her ever since. But we are very confident, this will take care of it.
You got this, Teri!! With a good support system and prayers from all of us here at WA and beyond, you will get through it with flying colors!!
