I'm finding my site to be heavy and slow, and was looking at GeneratePress because it's supposed to be lightweight. Has anyone changed over to this, and what was your experien

I am using GP for my site at present. It is an
e-Commerce site and I am using GP Premium with one of their premium themes. The Premium Themes that they have ask for a lot of plug-ins as part of the package and I am not happy about that. I am looking to reduce them before I make the site live.
I do find my site to be a bit slow and I think it is because of the plug-ins.
That has been my experience so far.

I tried GP premium, didnt like it, decided to go with Schema theme much better. The one that Matthew Woodard recommended at My Theme Shop. Using Schema is ultra light. Yes, plug ins slow things down a bit. Im going to start working on fixing these issues. Jay’s training always stated no more than 5 plugins.

I'm using Generate Press on my new website and it works great! Much faster than the thrive themes I have been using on my other sites. I'm hoping to slowly ween myself off of Thrive themes because I have had speed issues with all my thrive themes sites and I'm thinking that's the main culprit.

Cheerz,

Cory

Hi Cory, did you read Lakisha's comment below?

And did you know thrive is developing a new theme? I think I may wait for that. It sounds like when you add plugins to GP, it slows down as well.

Arg... decisions, decisions, lol.

Cheers,

GeneratePress is new for me, but I am always looking for a better mousetrap. I do not use Thrive, but do use several other sales funnel builders for our offers.

Page loading time is always an issue as your sites get bulkier and bulkier...I have tried moving my WordPress e-commerce stores to host services that have excellent reputations, and that has helped.

I will check this platform out though, based on the comments, and let's see! Note I am going to be moving all my e-commerce stores to a service from WPX.

They are offering free transfer of all sites (I will move 6-7 and shut down the rest) and a bunch of other benefits and services such as free SSL, CDN, malware protection and removal service, etc.

Bottom line, we all have to be on the lookout for better ways to present our content to the masses (and keep them on our pages and offers), and if the Generatepress will do that (and do it faster) I am interested!

Hint, since we are talking about platforms to build our content on...

Another cool thing we all thought was too late to get into is the native mobile app. Depending on what your niche is, you can definitely build something that people will see where they spend most of their time at - on their mobile device!

Right now we are building one for our business, and what we learn we will incorporate into apps that we build for clients. They are fast, the users do not even have to be online for them to work (some services, yes), and did I mention they are FAST (I did, I know, I know!)...

So easy to add in the important things like a loyalty program, a lead generation system, a lead management system, appointments/calendars, etc.

There are a lot of tools you can tap into, and the users easily navigate and get things done using such apps (to include buying from you!)...

You can send SMS', Push Notifications, email, and even call from the app(s)...You can use Geo-Targeting, Google Maps, and QR Codes (and table tents with the QR code so they can get your app).

These days it is all about making the customer experience as enriching as possible, and of course convenience and value...If GeneratePress can help with that, I may be in (to try on one site at least)...

Combining it all together, i.e. a native app, a website, Facebook Messenger and a chatbot, email, SMS', WhatsApp, etc. you can touch the customer in so many ways...

Anyway...

Like you, always looking hehe...Let's see what this GeneratePress is all about! It appears lots of people are using the theme, so I may just give it a try...

Cheers!
Dave : )

Hey Dave, thanks for replying!

Like you, I read Lakisha's answer, and now I'm wondering if I should bother.

It's the plugin issue I guess, lol.

I may hold out until Thrive releases their new theme. I really love their plugins, so it may be best to have the complete package!

And your apps sound great! You'll have to let us know how they turn out!

Cheers,
Suzanne

I saw the WPX deal...and I've heard pretty good things about them...Matthew Woodward did a speed test on hosting...and WPX won..So, it sounds like your in good hands...

By the way, the mobile app idea sounds pretty cool but, techy at the same time...(lol)

Thanks for sharing..

Kisha

I just changed over to GeneratePress today from Thrive Theme...I wanted to test out other themes before I let go of Thrive completely...

So, I took advantage of the black Friday deal...(there's a 30 day money back policy, if you decide you don't like it..)

The good thing is nothing broke on my site when I changed...

...at least not that I can tell ...

Here is what I noticed so far, maybe this could help..

My site speed is no different from Thrive theme...

In fact, I too thought my site speed was slow when using Thrive but, it turns out my Thrive was actually performing pretty good...

I say this because my GP site was fast at first but, when you started adding plugins it too slows down..

Of course it depends on what plugins you download...when using thrive I didn't have download anything but the thrive package, SEO, social share buttons (optional), and pretty links....

Anyhow, I have 6 plugins added to my Genereatepress right now and my site speed is 88 for mobile and 99 for desktop (not bad at all)

From my experience my thrive architect runs best with thrive theme..it's not as slow as it is with my GP...

I've tried GP + Thrive leads...and my site speed is
51 mobile and 81 desktop

I've tried GP + Thrive architect and from my experience it totally slowed down my site... is
54 mobile and 87 desktop

Then with my thrive package I get a
95 mobile and 99 desktop...

so.. now I am totally confused on what to do....

With my Thrive I could have 11 plugins and the speed could still hit the 85 mobile range...So, maybe reducing the plugins...if you have too many...I don't know..

The point is I'm not sure if GP is any faster or if I am doing something wrong...

...you'll still need some plugins to design the theme...

Anyhow, you know thrive is an entire package, whereas with Generatepress, I still have to go and download different plugins...

... contact forms...
..social share buttons...

if you don't know coding you'll need a plugin to add buttons to your site...if you choose to do that...

If you would like a table of contents you'll need a plugin for that I downloaded LuckyWP Table of Contents...

...no count down timers...or pop exit forms...

And, if you want to design the them any further you can download elementor (which I didn't do at least not yet.)

GP does give you the option to make your pages full or contained width so, I guess you could technically use a full width page as a landing page if you choose to do that..

Generatepress is the WP theme library for free...but, when you buy the premium part, you'll get a plugin with the activation key....

So, you're site will look exactly like it looks with the free GP theme unless you switch it to one of the themes in the GP site library...

If you switch your theme to the site library your menu or sidebar widgets might get re-arranged...the GP team advises you not to switch the theme unless, you are starting a new site....

but...

I switched mine anyways because, I bought the theme for the features...

when I swapped the theme to one of the premium themes in the site-library my menus totally re-arranged itself which was an easy fix...(thank goodness)

The point is nothing broke...you'll have 30 days to decide if you like it or not...I would just test it out and see what you think...and if you don't I would ask for a refund...

I hope this helps...

Great review and I appreciate your expanding on your own personal experiences...I have enough on my plate at the moment, I think I will pass on switching over with a site to test GeneratePress...

Cheers!
Dave : )

Wow Lakisha, thanks so much!

I'm not using a thrive theme, per se, just the plugins and I love them. Don't really want to give them up. I'm a member and get access to everything.

I've heard people say that Generatepress was so light, but if yours slowed down with the plugins, then I might be back to where I started. I don't code so rely on certain plugins. And your speeds with the plugins seem slower than mine right now.

My site seems slow according to some tests, but they all come out a little different so who's to say how accurate they are either, lol.

I'm patiently waiting for Thrive's new theme release, but that's not coming out for a while yet. And like you, using everything "Thrive" is probably the best option.

Is GP's wide page truly a landing page, or does it still have your header and footer info on it? In other words, is there still info that could lead the reader off the page...

And when GP support advised you not to switch.. was that from their free one to a paid one? Or that you shouldn't switch from anything to their paid one?

Ok, I'm starting to think I should leave things be until the new thrive theme comes out, lol.

I don't have time for too many headaches right now, LOL. I like my site so...

Arg... what to do??

Thanks for all your stats, I REALLY appreciate it!

Cheers
Suzanne

Thanks, Dave!

I definitely understand...

I thought I share my experience because, I felt like I have wasted a lot of time messing with a theme...

This seems very strange. I hope you are able to fix it quickly. I know how frustrating this would be. I use Gmail for almost every email and if this happened I would be lost.

Hi Alexander,
I've been using them for years as well, and this was my first issue. Hopefully that last...

There is definitely something strange going on with Gmail. Google chrome seems to be slowing down too, to the point where the computer is almost non-functional..

Really? Well, that sucks! I use Safari myself and love it. Haven't ventured over to Google chrome yet...

10 years ago, my gmail account was hacked, all emails disappeared, and could not be recovered despite help from their customer support. Outside of that, I've nearly always enjoyed gmail very much. Hope your issue gets resolved!

I enjoy Gmail as well. It's just so coincidental that it's happened twice in two days.
I changed my password, so hopefully, that will help if it's a hacker!
Cheers

It isn't just Gmail that keeps messing up lately, but Google as a whole. I keep up with the latest versions and it seems that it continues to go downhill.

Frustrating at times but who else can we turn to that has the market cornered?

I know, eh? Frustrating is an understatement LOL

If you are having trouble finding a certain email or group of emails. You can search at the top of your gmail page and it will pull it up. Or can click on an email and click on the three dots at the top of the email and click on edit these types of emails as spam. Or you can open emails and unsubscribe to them. I know what you mean about too many emails I have 28 K on my gmail account right now. I use the search to find emails I am looking for. Please like my comments, thanks Sruffey

Thanks David!

Try This:
1. Open Gmail
2. Select a message in your inbox so you may have to move one there.
3. At the top right of the messages, click the settings gear icon
4. Click settings
5. Click the filters and blocked addresses tab
6. Look to see if you have any weird filters or move to spam filters. If you do delete the filter.
7. If it continues not sure let me know I'll do some research for you. See if I can figure it out.

Hi Troy. Everything was clear there. No filters. I have changed my password in case it was hacked. So far so good today. I have absolutely no idea why that happened.
Thanks for the info though. Appreciate it!

I'd sooner post from my website.

I'm testing out a plugin that looks after the top 4 social media (not including Google+, of course), but so far it is not where it needs to be if I am to recommend it.

Hope this helps you.

Hey Suzanne,

Here is a blog explaining pingback and trackbacks: Here is how to edit comments: Yes... leaving broken links anywhere on your website can hurt your rankings simply because it is a sign the site is being neglected from regular maintenance.

What I have done on my sites is under Settings > Discussion Settings, I:
1.) change the "Comment Moderation" number to 1
2.) check mark both boxes under "Before a comment appears"
3.) check mark both boxes under "Email me whenever"

PLUS, I'm am quick to add abuser's IP address and their email address to my "Comment Blacklist".

For broken links in comments, I simply remove the link but not the information. In other words, if they have linked to text, I simply remove the link but not the text. If they provided a URL that was live once upon a time but now is dead, I remove only the link. If the URL goes live again, then I remove the link and change out the characters in the URL to HTML characters (you can Google search to get a list of these to print off and keep) so that it will not go live but still appear in the comment.

Hope you find this helpful.

Hi Trish and thanks so much for answering my question.
What I meant was the broken links are the websites they provide with their name and email address. I was wondering how important it was to have that added to our sites or if I could somehow turn off that feature. Would it affect SEO?

Oooh... well you could check to see if they have added a SSL certificate, and if they did, all you need to do is add the "s" to their URLs.

However, if the websites no longer exist then, yes, simply delete the URL.

Questions like this, it really helps to have screen prints so we can see what is actually being referred to. You can always blur out the personal info.

Both of the following ideas for creating screen prints are free:

Hi Again,
Can you tell me if it's important for SEO, or anything else, to have commenters add their website's? Or can I just ask for their names and email address?
And if so, how do I turn off the website option?
Thanks!

It's a courtesy that should be honoured IF their site is not malicious or illegal... and could then be moderately described as SEO.

I tend to visit any site URLs left in comments to make certain they qualify to be linked. That step alone is definitely GOOD for SEO.

The only thing you could do is simple delete any URLs your commenters leave behind, else you would need a lot more coding (or, yet another plugin) to remove the textbox for their URLs.

Personally, I wouldn't suggest deleting good URLs.

Thanks Trish, that's what I wanted to know!
