How to Transfer a Domain to WA

I have seen a bunch of questions about transferring domains and verification codes.

I believe there is much confusion because there are now features here at WA that did not exsist when some of the training was created.

Let's try to clarify a few things

First off, you do not have to transfer a domain from the original registrar, Name Cheap, Go Daddy, whomever, to host your site here at WA.

You can simply change the DNS settings and point to WA hosting servers.

Secondly, if you bought the domain name here at WA there is no transfer required. The page has options for different situations but not everything on the domain page applies to every situation.

If you bought a domain out side WA, you will be required to renew it where you made the purchase, which is fine. If you feel the need to transfer the domain using that section of the domain services, it will result with WA being your new domain registrar, meaning when it is time to renew you would do that here.

If you decide this is what you want you will need a transfer verification code from your current registrar. You will have to request the transfer and the code would then be sent to you.

You would then go to the Site Rubix > Site Domain section > Transfer domain to WA you enter the domain name and then the code.

The only reason to choose one domain registry over another is price, as far as I am concerned. However, some people like the idea of having everything here at WA, which is also OK.

Hosting is a different story all together but that's not what this post is about.

If you buy your domain here you simply choose the domain name and buy it. The DNS is already set to WA and no transfers are required. So looking at the image below, you would not need anything below the red line.

Once the domain is purchased here you would go to the Site Rubix builder and choose to build a site on a "Domain I Own".

I hope this helps clear some things up for a few new members that seem really frustrated over doamins and transfers and codes.

How did you make your name write like that with the feather?

Hey Steve, Thanks for the info. I intend to transfer from current registrar to WA as registrar because I already pay here for really excellent service with a lot of extra protection that I don't get with the other registrar. I would prefer to close out of them and bring everything here
I used to think its better to keep hosting and registrar separate, but at GoDaddy I have to pay extra for privacy, ssl and just about anything they like to add $ for.
Here at WA those important things are included with the registration. There is no other service available like WA, in my opinion.

Thank you Steve that helps a lot. I don't know why it was so confusing but you laid it out.

Thanks Steve for this article. Wish to move two domains I already own from my existing registrar as renewal is much higher than WA, and it would be great to have everything here instead. This is so helpful! Thanks again.

Thanks for this Steve. Very informative.

When the domain is hosted somewhere else it can create problems. I had .de domains which needed to be re-directed to Bluehost. It took me days with various supports and an IR friend helping me for 3 hours to find a workaround, so that my sites could be public again. That's why I try to bring everything here to WA and cancel my other American account - while I need to maintain my Grman one because .de domains cannot be transferred to US. Too bad....

Thanks for the information!

Hi Steve, great piece of training. Irv.

Thanks Again.

I have bought all my sites through NameCheap & I found that the detailed instructions for that site was not provided. It would be helpful if that was included. Cheers, Linda

Thanks I meant to include this, as well.

Thanks for this info. I will use the above, if I get into those examples, but today all my domains are fine where ever they are.

Thanks again,

Sharon
