Does your page score 100% in Site Audit?

Hello fellow WA members!!

I've recently written here about my problems with site speed and how I had no idea how to move forward with the issue - until you wonderful people gave me your help and Prince Partha also recommended someone over on Fiverr who specialises in site speed. I contacted him and paid for help correcting the problem - and it seemed to go away! Yippeee! That's a great feeling!!

I'm happy to say that for the large part it seemed as though the speed issue was a thing of the past. But this morning I see that 16 pages have timed out during the site audit.

And of course I have no idea what I can do about this. In my experience if I just ignore it, the problem will probably grow bigger and bigger.

Has this ever happened to you?

The overall score is 99 so I'm not panicking but it still seems mysterious to me!!

Have a great Friday peeps!

Soraya :-)

Hi Soraya,

I am glad you got it fixed. I had a problem with my speed. I don't even use any speed plugins. I have mine on the extreme but removed Google Site Kit. I use Rank Math Pro, so there was a conflict with those two, like Partha mentioned, with speed plugins with WA hosting speed vs. WP Rocket. Now that I know if there is ever a problem, I can holler for Prince Partha for that source from fivver who fixed your site. You have a great weekend as well.

Thank you Brenda,
Yes lol, if you run into trouble, holler for Prince Partha as he's such a generous soul and with sooo much knowledge and a great fiverr connection too!! :-)

Hey Soraya,

Did you use a specific tool to perform the Site Audit?

Okay, "timed out" pages are usually server-side issues.

In other words, something to do with Wealthy Affiliate hosting.

The most obvious reason that pages are "timed out" is due to slow, overloaded, or misconfigured servers.

Firstly, check the dates that these pages were "timed out".

I can't remember the exact date, but I know we had a couple of weekends (possibly 3 and 4 weeks ago, can anyone remind me?) where there were definitely server issues.

You may recall, we literally had an influx of members coming intot Live Chat, saying that there were issues with seeing/logging into their websites, etc.

So, if the dates of your timed out pages coincide with these dates, that will be why.

Next, the reason that I asked whether you were using a specific tool for the Site Audit, e.g. Ahrefs, Semrush, etc. is because WA's server could actually block the bots from Ahrefs/semrush while they are in the middle of a "crawl".

So, you request a site audit via one of these platforms, and then the WA server and hosting thinks, "Hold on, who are you, I don't recognise you, so I'm blocking you from crawling this website."

Finally, and potentially one of the biggest issues, is conflicts with something on your website and the WA hosting that is causing this.

This can be plugins, themes, and just about anything you add to your website.

The most obvious would be a specific caching plugin, such as WP Rocket or WP Cache.

Basically, WA hosting already has their own caching abilities, so when you add a caching plugin, they literally get into a fight with each other, LOL.

And this can cause issues with loading of pages.

You have the option with WA hosting under SITESPEED for each of your websites to have the hosting set to EXTREME or ACCELERATED, plus you also have the option to turn WA SiteSpeed OFF.

If you do have a specific caching plugin installed on WordPress then WA's SiteSpeed should be turned OFF.

Personally, I don't feel it is a massive issue, but I would check each of these "timed out" pages for the specific dates, and whether they provide any further details.

If it's from about 3-4 weeks ago we're aware there were issues with the WA hosting for a few hours, so no real actual problem with your website.

If you're using Ahrefs or Semrush or something similar for your Site Audit, then it's possible that the WA server blocked the bots from crawling your site, so no real actual problem with your website.

Finally, if you have a caching plugin, then again, there's no real problem with your wesbite, you just need to have WA SiteSpeed turned off.

Have a look through these things, and of course, if unsure, just let me know.

`Partha

Hi Partha, it is a bit different, at least from my experience.

If you simply turn off SiteSpeed (when it was on Extreme before), it will still remain in page source code. I learned this after the same person from Fiverr was trying to help me (he did a better job with Soraya). Can show you screenshots.

So this was something new to me and I have seen it in two sites.

Then I heard from Site Support that it must be at Accelerated to avoid this same issue.

They told me to keep Accelerated on if I want to use WP Rocket plugin. This seems to be the way to avoid SiteSpeed in page source code.

They also claim that plugin is redundant with Extreme SiteSpeed, but I can clearly see that sites behave much faster with the plugin.

Hey Jovo,

That actually makes a lot of sense, plus it obviously shows my lack of knowledge around the "technical aspects", LOL.

The reason I say this is because I know there are many WA members who have WP Rocket and also have WA SiteSpeed set to Accelerated.

I think my main issue, on the one site I have hosted here with WP Rocket, was that "everything" went wrong at the same time.

I had AIO SEO installed, but simply to use the Twitter card for FB and Twitter marketing.

So, I actually disabled and deleted AIO and then turned off SiteSpeed on the same day.

The sensible thing would've been to do one at a time, test them individually, and then see what difference that makes.

Well, the one site I have hosted here with WP Rocket got smashed to bits (Hahaha) during the September/October Google updates, so I'm doing a lot of "background work" on that at the moment anyway.

So, it can't do any harm to turn SiteSpeed to Accelerated and see what happens.

I will report back if I notice any major changes.

Thanks for pointing this out too.

Partha

Hi Partha,

The audit was Ahrefs and the date of the crawl was the 15th, so yesterday.

It's interesting and also a bit of a relief to read about the possible reasons for timed out pages and I'm going to cross my fingers and hope that the WA server blocked the crawl and that it's nothing to worry about (because that seems quite likely and. . . phew lol!) and if it isn't that, well then it must be part of the larger original problem, which I don't have an answer for anyway.

I did indeed turn OFF site speed when going through the speed 'fix' with the guy from fiverr. He installed some plugins to fix the site but one of them was Site Kit by Google and that one doesn't work, it says error. However, I don't really see the problem as the speed it ok, so I just leave the plugin alone and go over to view my stats on each Google page. I thought it odd though, that it didn't work.

I have Imagify and WP Rocket installed (thanks to you I believe) and initially they speeded up the site but then the slow problem came back all over again.

For now, the speed is still in the green, so I will keep my fingers crossed for a long time and it will hopefully stay that way! :)

As always, a BIG thank you for taking the time for this detailed and helpful response.

Soraya :-)

Hi Jovo,
Have you had any luck with finding any solutions for your speed issue? I hope so and that your sites performing better again . . .
Gosh, I hope so. I know how frustrated I was when my site was in the red and mine is still a low authority site so not nearly as worrying as it must be for you.
Wishing you all the best!
Soraya

There is no solution according to the person from Fiverr. He says ads are behind the problems, but Mediavine people say that this is not necessarily so.

I shall try with a few options in WP Rocket and also in Mediavine, one at a time, so this will take months to try if anything works.

I wish you good luck with finding a solution asap Jovo.

I have experienced site speed problems, just like you did hire someone from Fiverr to help! 99 score for site speed is awesome and mine is down to 97 again.

Hi Jannette,
Sorry I didn't explain it very well, I don't actually have a 99 speed score, it's a 99 on the site audit report. I just checked and my site speed is actually down to 90. 97 is awesome, congratulations!!!
Soraya
