When I post a link the following image appears. How do you make the greyed out pic show a featured image?

Hey Stacy,

The following video may offer you the help you seek: if not, then check out the linked tutorial below the video.

Hope you find this helpful.

Thanks. I was able to find my answer. I appreciate the follow up

Stacy

Phil (Feigner) has given a good answer but I tend to go into my FB account and upload my main pics and another one in support of it.
It doesn't take long to do this.

just had a quick browse around in all in one seo plugin.
and if you enable the social media
you should find the answer to your question - you are seeing the default image.
select the box - which image to display, and select whichever you are using.
you can set a default image, just in case it has problems.
so now all your social media posts should look good.
don't forget to click update options.
good luck
phil

once you have added the social block - have a look at the end of your post when editing it and under the all in one you should see a social tab- click on this and add the data - this should give you you image and a snappy description.
good luck
phil

Thanks. I actually got my situation resolved using the social tab. I tested my posts to ensure the image appeared in FB. Quick question I did notice that FB would show pics for posts, but not pages. Any idea why social tab would not work for pages?

if you go into the social module of the aio seo then you can set how it deals with pages.
as you normally want interaction with your blog this is the reason why pages are different.

Thanks for the feedback. Can you tell me where in aio seo to set how it deals with pages? Thanks.

Stacy

make sure you have it ticked in the aio social meta module.
then under each page will be a social tab, allowing you to setup the data you want displayed.
hope that helps
phil

Have what ticked in aio social meta module? I am already familiar with the social tab in each individual post.

Thanks
Stacy

it being the pages option under facebook

Depressed on which seo tool you are using ( all in one seo or yoast). I use yoast, so Everytime I write my post, within the seo setting, I need to set an image and text which is compatible with Facebook. And when I do share my link on Facebook the set image and text will appear.

Thanks for the feedback. I use all in one. When a post is created there is a general and social sharing tab. Using the social sharing tab I was able to resolve my issue. Have a great day!

I joined WA in November 2017 and created my site functional-strength.org. In November 2018 I had a lag in renewing my purchase of the domain name which resulted in my site bei

Do a fetch as google on your home page and select the "URL and linked pages" option.
Then select a few of the excluded pages and repeat for them, but only select the "URL" only. (not the URL and linked pages).
And see does this help. Need to give it time as well after making the request.
Resubmitting the site map may also help.

I resubmitted the site map yesterday and Search Console is now telling me that it is processing data. There were 247 excluded. I think that occurred when my subscription to my site URL lapsed. I am hoping in the next couple of days to have the situation resolved. Thanks for the feedback.

Stacy

That's great. Also writing new posts would signal to Google that the website is still blogging may help as well.

For about the last 6 months I have totally revamped my site to take advantage of several top key words for which my hubbie is ranked. including his name and also developed an extensive fitness ecourse as a free gift. I am finishing the ecourse development now and setting 2019 writing goals. Hoping to do a big launch the beginning of April. I have learned so much about the website development end of things this past year that I can create a much better user experience for the site now.

It might be OK, Stacy.

There's a sort of category page that mirrors the real page but which isn't indexed by Google but GSC reports it as not indexed.

If you go back in tomorrow and find the number of "valid" posts creeping up, that's probably it.

Okay. I do see a valid sitemap submission from today and am currently going through my posts to determine if for some reason No Index is marked on any of them. I have a second unrelated question. Do you know how to change what Bing or Google shows as your meta description? I have meta descriptions that it doesn't pick up. Instead it scans my posts and adds a fractured synopsis which is not as good as the meta. Any feedback would be appreciated.

I think how it works is that if you have a post with say, 3 categories, Google sees it as 3 posts, but only one of them is what it calls Canonical, i.e., the one true post. The other two are automatically noindex and that may be what you're seeing on the report.

And sorry, the same thing happens to me re meta description. Sometimes it's picked up, sometimes not.

Resubmit your sitemap in google console.

I did that but it is still excluding 104 pages as No Index. See report below. So weird. I have a copy of the report I tried to attach here, but it wouldn't let me.

When I inspect individual URLS in new Search Console it tells me the URL is not in my property.

Search engine don't rank every single page, only those that it deems worthy of mention.
Also a lot of the noindex/nofollow ones will be images.

As for your Meta Description you should always and without exception type in your own in the relevant box at the bottom of the page when you have an article in Edit Mode.

Otherwise what will happen is that the search engines will take 160 characters from your first paragraph for the description and this of course might not say very much about what your article content is telling your visitors.

This will affect your ranking as well.

I totally understand that. Google Search Console is saying that I only have 5 valid pages and 247 excluded pages which is not valid. Bing has a record of all 343 urls submitted.

I have meta descriptions on all of my posts. Bing does not use meta descriptions so it adds a synopsis description. Below is a screen capture of one of my posts - 5 Health Benefits of Doing Squats Everyday.

The meta description is
Master squat technique to boost strength gains. Use these 3 rules to exert maximally & safely - push/pull evenly, never twist/contort, learn how to miss a rep.

From what I can glean Bing doesn't use the meta description. Thoughts?

I hardly ever use Bing for anything so sorry I can't help you there.

Both Google and Bing have me ranked for 4 of my posts. Bing's rules are a little different. They asked for more feedback from users/viewers and then incorporate feedback into what appears in the search. I was shocked this am to see that Google Search Console only had 5 valid pages indexed. Hoping by tomorrow I see some movement. Not sure what my next steps would be if I don't. Maybe delete property and then reconnect. I am glad I found this error now. I have been working on a complete revamp of my site and want to roll it out by the middle of March. Thanks for the feedback.

No probs, sorry I couldn't help with Bing.
The only thing I use Bing for are images.

Hey Stacy,

Until you actually locate where on those URLs your links reside, you won't know for certain. One idea that may assist you is... if you have made comments on other's posts and left your website URL... otherwise, the authors of those posts may have used your articles as a reference.

So, if you really want to know where your posts are linked, you need to visit those sites to see if their links to you are relevant. If they are, then you can consider yourself flattered. :-))

The GoogLe+ link looks though someone has shared your Google+ post.

Hope you find this helpful.
