About Somg
Joined November 2017
I am looking forward to exploring this new adventure with Wealthy Affiliate. I have been out of the traditional workforce for about 15 years. During my more traditional work experience I competed nationally in bodybuilding. I exited a career at Arthur Anderson as the Administrator of the Partner Financial Planning Program on the heels of the Enron scandal in 2001 and became a home school mom to my learning disabled, hearing impaired daughter. She was home schooled 8th-12th. While home schooling my passion for horses was reignited and I was offered a trainer position at a local barn after my daughter graduated. After a terrible car accident about 6 years ago it was discovered by the MRI that I have a stage 4 spondy. This is a condition in which one bone in your back (vertebra) slides forward over the bone below it in the sacral/lumbar region. I am very fortunate that my husband is connected to some of the top rehab minds in the world and embarked on a journey to create stability within my spine. This work further enhanced my riding ability and gave me better biomechanical movement overall. In addition to horses I train older folks giving them functional strength that they can use in their everyday lives. The market for horse training/lessons in recent years has greatly diminished and reaching my older target market for personal training is difficult in our more rural location. Its time for me to create another income stream for my family.

Thank you for sharing your posts with me. I am about 8 months into this journey and seeing some minor success. I am working now on really understanding how to get quality prospects to my site. I dabbled some in safelists - adsonline and ibotoolbox, but was not satisified with the unqualified traffic that dropped my states in google analytics. This journey is definitely one of trial and error. Recently I am trying to learn where and how to use landing pages effectively. I came into this project knowing absolutely nothing about websites and internet marketing so there has been a huge learning curve. Would love for you to take a look at my site - functional-strength.org. Any feedback would be much appreciated!

Hi Somg. I came to your bio because I happened click on a question you had asked about creating a landing page. I went to your website and I'm very impressed. It's beautiful. The content is solid and it's very well laid out. 7 months? That's practically no time at all, and right within the time frame I was hoping for. I was feeling discouraged the last few days and seeing your site gave me a much needed boost. Thanks!

Hi, I love your logo but I think it's a little difficult to read the text running on top of the image. Can you try breaking the image so that the text background is white? I would love to see that and I think that would be a good comparison to share with the community.

Kind regards,

Max
Reply

Thanks for the feedback. My site background is black so the logo shows up better there. I am not quite sure what you are trying to describe above but am totally open to the suggestion. Can you elaborate?

Stacy
Reply
MMoncur Premium
Hi Stacy, with the black background I'm sure you would be able to read it much clearer.

I was suggesting not having any lines break up the text in your logo so that you would just see the text. I have an imgae attached showing how the image is cut/broken up so that the text passes through it making it easier to read.

I hope what I'm saying makes sense, lol.

Kind regards,

Max

Gotcha! I will go back and tinker. The struggle is that I created it in powerpoint so it is a grouped image exported as a .png. The body was created grouping individual flames over an existing body graphic and then removing the existing body graphic. The only other graphic tool I have is paint which came with my laptop. I need to figure out how to eliminate the flame border where the words cross over.
Reply
MMoncur Premium
Yes, that's exactly what I was trying to describe. Would you be able to send how your logo looks with the black background? If the text is clearer then you won't have to change your graphics.

Max
Reply
somg Premium
I think what I need to do is go back to the original in .ppt and where the words cross ungroup the flames and delete the flames that interfere with the text. The logo needs to be transferrable no matter what the background. I have to head out for my real job now and can address that later today. Thanks so much for your creative feedback.

Hello Stacy and Welcome to Wealthy Affiliate.
Since you've been here you will perhaps have come to the conclusion that internet marketing can be a steep learning curve.
You must keep up with the training and if you do get stuck on anything then can I suggest you browse some of the 390+ blogs I have published within WA.

Thanks for the follow. It is a very steep learning curve for me. I have a handle on creating good content, but the mechanics of affiliate marketing are taking some time. I just started with WA the end of November. Do you have an adsense plugin that you prefer? Also would you mind checking out my site - www.functionalstrength.org Any suggestions would be much appreciated.
Reply
Robert-A Premium
Yes it is a steep learning curve and especially so if you're new to online marketing as opposed to off-line.
A whole new ball game as they say.

I don't do Adsense. I actually wouldn't waste my time with it as the returns are so low unless you are involved with Adsense full time and do nothing else.
You might make a few dollars from it but you are never going to get rich.

However each to his or her own and on this page you will find some good Adsense Plugins -

https://www.shoutmeloud.com/best-adsense-plugins-wordpress.html

I couldn't browse your site with the link you gave.
I got this message -

We can’t connect to the server at http://www.functionalstrength.org.
If that address is correct, here are three other things you can try:

Try again later.
Check your network connection.
If you are connected but behind a firewall, check that Firefox has permission to access the Web.

By the way you may not be aware of this but it’s a good idea (only if you want to) to click the 'Like' icon within a comment if you like it as I have done with yours.
Obviously you don't have to click every single comment or you will be here all day doing nothing but.
But to click the ones you like that are replies to your own comments will be reflected in your WA ranking because it shows you are getting involved with the community.
Enjoy your day.

Hi again Stacy.
You can actually buy credits to use for comments and feedback.
You're cutting out the middleman so to speak and that way you get to decide what comments appear in your site comment section.

For $10 you get 20 credits and of course a comment is 2 credits so you get 10 comments for your $10.
Have a great Monday.

Wow! We have even more in common than we already discovered! Do you mean spondylitis? The first doctor I went to said I had ankylosing spondylitis...the first chiropractor said no I don't...so I really don't know if I do or not! I probably do to some degree. I have had all kinds of back problems but I know most of those are probably due to weak core muscles. I have learned to fix or deal with many of my problems but I need to do more. I have bursitis and tense muscles and get painful knots. So far, minerals have helped more than anything else. Chiropractors, physical therapists, doctors etc. have all told me they don't know what is wrong with me! A car accident about 6 years ago triggered all this in me too! I ended up with auto-immune disease, nutrient deficiency, Epstein Barr and so much more.

Like you I am always looking for ways to get better and learn more.

Thank you for following me and I am glad we can talk healing!

When we discovered the stage 3 spondy I was very fortunate to have some great resources at my disposal. My hubbie is very connected in the health and fitness world. One of his contacts is named Stu McGill. Stu studied the science of Vladimer Janda http://www.jandaapproach.com/about/. He developed muscle strengthening protocols using this science as his guide. Janda mapped the connection or lack of connection with the bottoms of the feet to the entire neurologic system. Stu skyped us from Canada about a week after the accident and walked my husband through diagnostic moves to see if the spondy was stable. It was. Then a couple of weeks later I accompanied my husband to one of his week long strength seminars. One of the guys on his team is a doctor of physical therapy also studying a rehab therapy created from Jandas work called Dynamic Neuromuscular Stabilization. DNS identifies trigger points for the neurologic system. I worked with him for a year. Flash forward to now. I have a series of stretches and strength exercises that I do on a regular basis to keep my body generally stable. I do find that my back still pops in and out on a regular basis but now I have a guide wire system that holds it longer.

Great to share the experience!

That sounds great! I am glad you are doing so well. I have a vertebrae that I felt pop when I was rear ended and it pops in and out every day since!
Reply
somg Premium
It is very disconcerting to not have control over this condition. The key to stabilization is strengthening the core & have stretches that target the muscle slings to release tightness for the back to return to a stable place. I focus on mindfulness of good posture & meditative breathing every day. I also sleep in a recumbent lawn chair so I can set my body up for relaxed good alignment at night. My spondy was old but did extensive damage to my posture. I believe that this degradation in posture led to my internal organs being negatively displaced leading to dysfunction. Everything is connected. Are you involved in any yoga or progressive resistance training?
Reply
Swangirl Premium
No, I started with stretching and exercise when seeing the chiropractors and physical therapists but they said there must be something else underlying and they were right. Without the right minerals etc you can't have good strength, flexibility, avoid injury etc. If I do too much I trigger bursitis and tendonitis in new locations.

I used to stretch and it felt great. I need to start again. I think figuring out the mineral balance will allow me to do more.

I was rear ended in a car accident. It was minor but it set all this stuff off. I probably had underlying nutrient deficiencies and Epstein Barr virus but that exacerbated everything.
Reply
Swangirl Premium
Yes, I have taken magnesium for years as well as D and Bs but now I am learning that zinc and potassium are really important for me as well. I am probably deficient in those as well and they are vital. Deficiencies in those can cause diabetes (which I don't have but my Dad did) as well as a ton of problems I do have.

Wow! It is such a struggle working through these issues because the traditional medical community is not very helpful. Do you have access to a naturopath? I have a naturopath friend in Seattle who I discuss my health issues with her because she is better at giving me holistic, simple answers. My heart goes out to you and your struggle.

Yes, I have seen several great Naturpaths. Luckily Alaska is one of 16 states where they are licensed so therefore they are covered under insurance just like other doctors. They figured out I had active Epstein Barr, adrenal fatigue and other things. I am figuring out the nutrient deficiencies and will go back to consult with them about that too.
Reply
somg Premium
I am using an amazing product called HPA Adapt by Integrative Therapeutics for adrenal fatigue. I have been on it for about a year now. I noticed changes in energy almost immediately. I take one pill in the early am and one before noon every day. I also supplement with Lyseine which greatly complements the HPA. I had moderate to severe adrenal fatigue after running a large equestrian facility. The 24/7 commitment crushed me. I had to wear many hats ensuring the proper care of the animals from covering to clean stalls and keeping up with my own horse training/teaching responsibilities. We had 24 horses on the farm. After keeping the farm afloat the owners sold it not telling the new owners of the work I was doing. I had 8 clients pull their horses from the farm when the owners decided for no cause decided to kick me out. I was fortunate to find other farms for all the horses. That was 4 years ago. It was an incredibly stressful time. That stress took an incredible toll on my body compounded by moving into menopause. Perhaps HPA might work for you.

You have a good start....I would:

(1) add some images where they fit,
(2) add in your name as a user with admin access so you can publish posts in your name versus admin,
(3) add in a blurb on commission for some products that you may promote down the line,
(4) change out the byline under your site name (see image I attached), and
(5) get some footer info added (i.e. contact info, location, etc.) to use the space you have...

I would also look at some competitor websites to see how they are set up and pick up the good points to emulate on your website. This will help make sure that people will see what they expect when they come by...

Things are looking good though, I liked your 'about me' post...

Cheers!

I have a question on #5 of your list. How do you add a footer? I added a plug in for it that doesn't seem compatible. I also went to appearance-customize-sub footer where there was an option for arbitrary text. When I got to that step it didn't seem like the right option. Need to think about images for #1 on your list but have been able to get other stuff cleaned up.
Reply
DaveSw Premium
Most themes have widget areas for that...If you go to the appearance menu tab on the left side of the backend of your website, you will see 'Appearance' - when you click on it, a submenu will pop up and from there you can go to widgets...

Normally from that section, you can add in different kinds of widgets into the footer area (some have 3, some have 4 allowed in the footer section)...

The other way you can add is to go to the customize tab in that submenu from appearance and click on it...Then you also will be able to add widgets to the footer and other sections of your website, depending on the theme...

Have fun, this gets easier as you deal with it more...

Cheers!

Hey there,
Quick question. I am working on course 2, lesson 3 - keyword search. I found a phrase that has 61 for traffic but 0 QSR. It is outside traffic number of 30-50, but I thought the 0 QSR would make it worth including in my keyword list. Would you agree?
Reply

I would have to look at the keyword or phrase...

Not sure you have seen this training that Robert has published, but it would be good to go through it.... There are a number of factors to look at when selecting keywords or keyword phrases...

Thanks for the information. I think I will be able to expand my parameters somewhat on the QSR. In the initial training it was suggested to have a QSR under 100. The post above suggests under 300 QSR. That would open up key word options that I excluded initially because the QSR was in the 200's. Have a great day!

Morning - absolutely. Glad to do it. I may not be logging in tomorrow on Thanksgiving Day to check messages and websites. But will be back to my usual routine Friday. Just a heads up in case you don't get responses back from me.

Also, you might be getting some automated messages from me about joining premium as you approach seven days as a free member. For the record as I mention all over my website, Earn Your Success, don't rush signing up for premium. Make sure affiliate marketing and blogging is a good fit before signing up to pay for the premium hosting package be it here or elsewhere.

All in all, it sounds like a good niche. Only two other sites to compete against for Functional Strength... very nice.

Thanks for the response. I appreciate being able to explore this opportunity thoroughly before deciding to purchase a membership. At what point in the journey is it worth upgrading to the premium membership?
Reply

I always tell people when they know for sure without a doubt in their mind they want to pursue this type of online work, then and only then should they look at upgrading to paid web hosting. Buying your own domain and paying for hosting has some good perks for helping websites get found in organic searches in Google over free sites that operate as sub-domains. Google gives more 'trust' to sites that are being paid for.

However, none of that matters unless you know 100% this is what you want to do and keep doing. So when you see those 'automated' messages from me... it's not me! :-)

Holy Crap! I had 17 revisions going in site editor and wrote almost all of my about me. All of them have disappeared leaving me back at square one. Is there a way to recover this? I hit a heading that made my text huge so I clicked on the revisions to go back one and now everything I wrote over the last three days is gone. I hope there is a way to get this back.

Morning - you probably can, but if using the Site Content editor here in the WA site you will probably have to go through Site Support and ask them to find a different revision to load. I am not 100% sure on that, as I don't use that tool - I do all my writing in my website's post/page editor. But likely Site Support can go into your revisions and roll it back. They are found in the blue site rubix tab, at the bottom of the menu.

Horrible feeling to loose hard worker content like that... Been there a few times.

Happy thanksgiving!

Thank you Stacy for the follow and many blessings to you here at WA. If you need any help remember to post your question in the comments section or on live chat, and someone will be able to help you.

I created an informative training tutorial for all New Members that clearly explain the differences between the Certification Course and Affiliate Bootcamp.

I highly recommend that you do not start your WA training doing the Bootcamp. The Certification Course is the BEST option and I explain why in the following tutorial. I know, same thing happened to me when I started.

I just wanted to reach out and let you know that I am here if you ever want to run any niche "ideas" by me or you have any questions about finding your niche.

Get back to me when you get the chance! :)

Thank you!! I decided on Functional Strength for my website name. I am working on my about me section now. I am reviewing other sites within WA to see how they wrote their info. Once written can I send to you for comments? Thanks.

Good for you! I'm glad you took the first steps in building your own at home business and working towards your financial freedom!

You are not going to regret it. Make sure you "follow" me right away - if you need help you can ask me anything by sending a message. If I am not online try asking a question of the community if you need assistance right away. One of the great things about building a niche website to do affiliate marketing here is that there is always lots of support if you need it.

To get started with some great training and setting up your starter account click on the link below or just follow the green tab at the top left of your screen "GET STARTED HERE". Some of the first videos in the training is just learning how to navigate around the Wealthy Affiliate network and making sure your account is complete with picture and bio - it helps to have that stuff in place if you ever need to ask questions. It's surprising how many people don't do that - it really helps having that in place.

Please do not hesitate to ask me any questions, or ask the member network questions. If I am on I will answer right away. If not I will answer back as soon as I am next logged into the system.

You are in no way required to sign up for the Premium hosting, you can go far with the free website and the limited hosting with training, but if you join Premium within the first 7 days, here are some bonuses that I am going to be able to extend to you for signing up from my website:

(1) You are going to get a 59% discount on your first month Premium membership (only $19)
(2) You are going to get personal and private access not only to me, but also the the owners of of this site who work every day to update the content for affiliate marketing training.

I call the people who sign up in those first seven days my "action takers", because I know they are serious about finding financial success in their lives. But be sure you only switch over to the premium hosting if you know without a doubt that you want to start and own your own home business.

Good luck and have fun - this can be a very exciting time!

Thanks so much for the warm welcome!! I am working on building my website this am. Also after yesterdays lessons I have a good idea of my niche. I think I would like to pursue something fitness related. I need to update my description to include my fitness background. In addition my husband is a prolific fitness writer, world champion lifter and special advisor to the spec ops world. When googling the name, Marty Gallagher, he has to top ten hits relating to his books, articles and videos. Is it possible to capitalize on this as it relates to affiliate marketing? Thanks

Wow, sounds like you have a really good head start on things with your husband's brand. Does he have his own website - because that may be something to do; create a website that supports his brand and capitalize off his media content. If there is equipment or product that he uses you can write reviews and send people to online retailers for purchasing.

That is fantastic! You could really capitalize on his lack of a website and create one focused on building up a brand. Wow... that is really awesome. Many people, myself included, have struggled with building up a niche website, and creating an authority website that can generate traffic right away. With his name recognition already out there I suspect it will be easier than normal generate revenue once a website is up and running.
