Do I really want Google Authorship? Do I really want to be on Facebook? Twitter?

This is what is happening today!

(From an article with link below)

In a few hours, CISPA, the Cyber Intelligence Sharing and Protection Act / Cyber Protection Act-more clearly-a government internet takeover, will take to the Senate floor for a vote after the vote to bring it to the floor passed.

“This is a total contradiction of what a free society is all about. The purpose of government is to protect the secrecy and the privacy of all individuals, not the secrecy of government” -Ron Paul

This was out of Facebook today!

Good post Sherion! I'm sorry I missed it when you posted it. As of yesterday, April 25th, it failed to pass the Senate, thank the stars, but keep in mind that they are Already spying on us illegally. This bill would've just made it legal.

Yay! Thanks for letting me know this. :)

Awesome! So glad it failed to pass the Senate at least!
I'm sure they'll keep trying to pass this though...wait for awhile for people to forget and then try again maybe under a different name for the bill.

For now I think all we can do is keep signing any petitions that do come up. Also, I am going to try to keep current on this. I really don't post anything anywhere that I don't expect to be seen by many others. I just don't like my privacy being invaded!

We have to stay on top of it because they'll bring it back in another form. Then they try to sneek in other freedom forfeitures in the same bill, thinking it'll be overlooked. Little by little, we've become fascist. The way to defeat it is to pay attention and blow the whistle. It's amazing how many people are trusting and unaware of what's happening. Blow the whistle.

Like you and Ron Paul, I find it very concerning. Not only is our privacy invaded, but they don't always get it right. I'm very careful about what I post online. Sometimes I'm a little outspoken, and often wonder if it'll come back to haunt me. I know our government has national security concerns, but that's one of the evils of terrorism. In order to protect a nation, many of the privileges of that nation are compromised. Sometimes I think "for security reasons" is also an excuse to erode freedom.

I believe that if someone is under some type of suspicion like this latest Boston bombing terrorist, then I could understand that all access to anything they did should be checked into. I am sure that since the government can do that now, then the government doesn't have to extend more invasion into my personal privacy. I also do not post anything that I don't want everybody to read. But, I do have private email messages about family or something similar that is none of the governments business. Also, the news media seem to take out just what they want people to see.

Thanks for your opinion!

You're absolutely right, so-called "terrorism" is indeed a poor excuse to erode our civil rights! In fact, there is so little terrorism in world, by those our government is telling us it's coming from, that they have to manufacture it themselves.

Those that are perpetrating the Real terrorism, is the CIA, FBI, Mossad, MI6, the Pentagon and NATO, all while concocting excuses to take our civil liberties away, and our wealth to feed it. They're calling it "sequestration" here. It's called "austerity" everywhere else. It's the same thing. Taking our money away from the things we tax payers have PAID for, and funneling it to fund these criminal activities, and criminal bankers.

If I'm correct the UK Government implemented something some time ago where that all emails that have certain keywords in trigger something.
I'm exactly sure what it is but I know that the GCHQ based in Cheltenham are behind it.
I'm not bothered about this because I have nothing to hide and I don't put anything in emails which are a subject matter that I want kept secret.
I also expect that the US Government have been able to do this for some time now irrespective of what you may think.
It has nothing to do with Privacy but National Security is a totally different thing.

As for the rest of it, it's a bit late me for......LOL as I can be found on several social media platforms!
Neil

I am not concerned so much about posting something in emails as I am about our right to privacy. Again, this quote > This is a total contradiction of what a free society is all about. The purpose of government is to protect the secrecy and the privacy of all individuals, not the secrecy of government” -Ron Paul

I agree with Kyle here privacy "what the hell is that" is used to be a something that you could do just by keeping quite and not telling anyone your personal business it was easy...well it used to be...

The internet hits everyday folks, people are on the waves telling everything about themselves to someone, we write articles that we want published, we do websites that we want to make money from, we blog our thoughts and feelings and sign it in most cases with our real name....we want to be recognized for our work or blogs or what ever.../

We gave up our privacy with our first publication or even possibly the first time we did a search on google...

Want to keep stuff private "shut up". Plain and simple....if you don't tell no one will know...

Therefore only put out things on social networks or blogs or wherever that you don't care if the whole world knows....

Nature of the beast....we can't have it all privacy and the internet....if your on it someone is reading about it....as IMer's we sure hope they are...

I for one am not ashamed of anything that is associated with my name on the internet and if I am my fault for putting it there....

Personally I don't see how this is going to make or break my day....I could be wrong, it has been known to happen before,

For me business as usual....

If you are wanting to bomb a shopping mall and you search out bomb making on the internet.....how private should that be...??? Cant have your cake and eat it too....just the way it is....

It is still a federal offense to mess with someone's "snail mail." I do think that my private emails that I send to people are supposed to be private. It is my understanding that when someone like FB says private it should be.

I have not put anything on the internet that I am concerned about either. That is the nature of the business for an IM'er. That I chose to have public.

Privacy who? That sounds like an old friend that I once knew... (unfortunately)

A lot of stuff that you hear regarding privacy is hype, much of it is also true though. It can be hard to dig through what is legit and what is a fabrication of reality (scare mongering).

To be honest, we do it to ourselves. We share images on Facebook, we share our "written word" all over the place, what do we really expect? These are mediums we do not own and these are also places that we know are financially benefiting from our activities.

Refrain from doing things that you are not comfortable with the entire world seeing online if you use a public medium, that is the best way to prevent from things like this impacting if they do get through.

I agree totally about watching what you do on public forums.

However, i feel my emails and phone calls should have some privacy.

If the authorities feel like they need to look at this more private communication then they should have to go before a judge, show cause and get a warrant to do so.

To just issue blanket permission for snooping is wrong.

To let the word terror be a blank check for any government violation of the constitution is wrong.

This is a public message and is what it is.

My email to my family should be private unless we decide to to share it.

I agree, they tried to do this in Canada awhile back and got shut down pretty quickly (giving the police the right to "snoop" at will). Hopefully this law the same happens as I do agree, there is a time and place to be able to probe. You cannot assume the 99% are bad people, in order to find the criminal activity.

I am just going to do a "ditto" of what @steveww said.

I have not put anything publicly that I am ashamed of.

It is more a basic of my rights to privacy when I was told that is what they are.

Not ashamed, but things that you don't want the world to get their hands on and be able to share. Unfortunately that is something that still surprises people, they share things within social networks and they get enraged when they see it redistributed somewhere else. Wrong, YES. Will it happen, YES.

Just passed the house.

The Senate is next.

Contact your Senators now.

Find out how your congressman voted.

Either give them an "atta boy" or a good verbal hiding, depending on how they voted.

I wish I would have heard about this sooner than this morning when I posted it.

I just checked that out too. I see it passed the house :( but if people act now it may still be stopped...I hope

I certainly do not want this to pass! They already have enough ridiculous laws and then what next? Will they censor what you say on FB or twitter? Just allow what they want to be on the internet? Doesn't sound like a free society to me.
Thanks for sharing this Sherion!

Me neither but what can we do and I wonder what they already do know about us. Have you ever Googled your own name? I have and there are 33 others with my exact name and 4 are dead! :( Those are just recorded internet users of some type. Any image you have put on your pages and have gotten indexed are already on Google Images. Check that out. If this passes which I am sure it will be like you said... then what next?

Actually, yes, I have Googled my own name, but it has been at least a couple of years ago. It's amazing how much they already know about someone, since it came up with quite a bit back then and I had not been doing anything at all on the internet until only about three years by then. I didn't even own a computer almost five years ago. Makes me wonder what will come up now if I Google my name! Okay, now I'm curious...

I have Googled my name and find that Google has information about me that happened years ago and has long since passed out of my life. I was a real estate agent in another life.

What do they say, it stays on the internet forever. So I do agree that you must be careful about what you write on these sites.

Certainly not!

Probably. Not enough people aware of it.

If you want to do something -

Take action against CISPA here: http://theanti-media.org/2013/04/15/cispa-vote-wednesday-tell-congress-to-oppose-anti-privacy-cyber-security-bill/
