About Sdawson
Joined August 2014
My name is Shirley Dawson. I'm a retired civil servant, having worked for FDA for 33 years. I retired in the fall of 2006 and then went full-time with my formerly part-time photography studio business, concentrating on portraits (seniors, children) and weddings. Several health issues forced me to sell out my share of the business in late 2009. I really miss the work and the image editing, but I can still do landscape photography and my digital painting.

The last few years I've been training in traditional painting techniques and digital painting techniques also (mostly online) I'm married with a grown daughter and now two beautiful grandsons and a little granddaugher who are the delight of my heart.

I live in the beautiful hills of Northwest Arkansas and spend my time swimming for exercise, reading lots, working on my art and photography, enjoying my iPad and digital tools, creating WordPress blog sites, and surfing the web.

Because of a bad back and fibromyalgia, I am in a wheelchair or chair mostly or have to use a cane to walk short distances. I also have diabetes and am always reading and studying more about my disease. One of my blog sites is about living with Diabetes.

Ever since I sold my photography studio, I've been looking for a way to earn extra income to help furnish/pay for our vacation/retirement home in the Ozark mountains and blow money on my grandsons.

I joined WA on August 1st, 2014 and three days into my trial week, I decided to upgrade to Premium membership. I’ve since gone annual (paying for the next year in advance).

I love all the great things I’m learning here about affiliate marketing and building affiliate websites and blogs. I’m also making some very nice friends within the WA Community. I’m so glad I found this place and can work to achieve my future financial goals in such a great environment.

I can’t imagine another training program that offers so much as the WA Program does and includes free website hosting and such excellent training resources (with new training added daily), along with the great sharing community here. Joining the program is as easy as starting the Free Trial, which is a week of free access to "check out" the program. You can click on one of my website links and learn more. (look to the bottom right on this page to see some of my sites listed).

My goal with WA is to be able to earn enough to supplement our income, as both myself and my husband, Mel, are now retired. I also want to help my daughter and son-in-law as they serve on the mission field as Wycliffe missionaries in Papua New Guinea (PNG). I love having extra $ to blow on my adorable grandkids, both my 3 step-granddaughters in California and my 2 grandsons and granddaughter in PNG.

I know, with the WA training program, I am going to reach these goals. I have no doubt about this, as I’ve talked with too many successful WAers and I've been growing my own commission earnings each month.

In addition, I currently host 21 WordPress websites free as part of my Premium WA membership (which would cost me $6.99/month for each site on a hosting service like GoDaddy-totaling over $146.79/month). 17 of the sites are affiliate sites I created with what I've learned here within WA. The rest are sites for paying clients, friends and test sites I use to test for my working affiliate sites.

I decided to take advantage of the special Black Friday annual membership pricing of $299 offered for the last several years and so my $25/month fee at WA is more than saved with the free hosting I get for my websites. Plus WA is state of the art hosting and support with very "fast" servers and training that is continually updated along with a huge, supportive community.

Here's a breakdown of costs for WA.

Free Starter Membership is, well, FREE for seven days. I decided on my third day to upgrade to a Premium Membership. This was August 4, 2014. I paid $19 for that first month. After that, I paid $47/month which went up to $49/month a year ago. The only increase in more years than I've been a member here.

Premium Monthly Membership is $49/month (your first month is only $19), giving you total access to all the training and hosting on the platform. Paying monthly at $49/will total $557 for your first year's Premium membership. (I went yearly in November of 2015) and began paying $359/year in advance. I've continued my membership paying annually since then, including taking advantage of the $299/Black Friday Special in 2016 which brought my fees down to just under $25/month. The BEST ever price and so worth it.

Paying annually will give you a great price break for membership. Choosing to pay this way, your annual cost is only $357 or just under $30/month. (I decided to do this several years ago)

Then, you can also take advantage of the Black Friday Special that is offered around Thanksgiving and pay only $299 annually for your membership. That breaks down to only $25/month for your membership. (I decided to do this in 2016)

I think of that $25/month as one pretty simple meal date for me and my husband. I can easily trade one meal a month for all the excellent training and hosting I receive for my membership. Plus its paying for itself with free hosting for the 12 blog sites I manage. I just checked Godaddy cost for hosting a Wordpress blog site and the cheapest is $6.99/month.

Hosting these 17 sites on Godaddy would cost me a total of $118.83/each month. I'm happy to be saving $93 each month for my hosting. That is not even counting any commissions I earn on my blogsites which were slow to show sales but they have been rising since 2017 as I tweak them as I learn more. 2019 is going to be my BIG year. I've now found a way to increase my affiliate sales and have plans to spread this across each of my 17 affiliate sites. The increase is slow but working.

If you do the training and the work, I believe you simply CANNOT fail to earn from your membership. Check out my WA blog site: "EarningMoneyinRetirement.com" and read my detailed Review of Wealthy Affiliate.

I have placed lots of information on that blog site about WA and its training and what I am learning.

If you would like to try out WA starter membership for a FREE 7 days without having to pull out your cc, click on the "join now" button above.

Best wishes to you and your family in 2018.

HI Shirley,
Thanks for following me. I enjoyed reading your description as it is most helpful. I got my type 2 diabetes under control by following the advice of Dr Marlene Merrick. I used to take 80 units of insulin and drugs galore daily but now no drugs, no insulin and an A1C between 5 and 6. Her diet is easy. Its helped my cholesterol as well. Good luck here and continued success

Hi Shirley
Great post
I am floundering in the quagmire of still working to pay the bills.
Dealing with the garbage of work politics, and what is said and worse, what is not said, but it hangs in the air like a poison.
I bring it home and I know it is destroying me
I have decided that I shall read many 'about me' posts of all my special friends here at WA and through their endeavours both successful and still getting there, I shall overcome and put all my energy mentally and physically into my future with WA
Thank you

Michele, back when I took an "early out from my regular job" I was so ready to get out of that situation - I can understand what you mean. I sacrificed 4% of my potential pension by retiring 2 years early but it was so worth it. I still have nightmares about that job every now and then. So happy I will never work for someone else again. I love being my own boss. - Shirley

Thanks Shirley.
I need to look forward to the opportunities offered to me here.

Thank you for sharing your life I feel actually privileged to be allowed to be a part of your journey.

I lived in PNG for a while when I was young, my Dad was a lecturer there at one of the universities, but sorry to say I didn't like it. I guess the worse thing that I, remember, was the sameness of the weather.
Seem strange?! Well it never seemed to change , but maybe that was me all those years ago!!?
I feel your family are amazing to do the exceptional work that they are doing and I wish them so much happiness and resilience and most of all joy every day

From what my daughter says, it rains a bunch in the rainy season and sometimes not enough the other season (at least they had to ration baths when the tank was low sometimes). They are in the eastern highlands at the Wycliffe compound of Ukarumpa now but will be moving into the Western lowlands to the Mubami villages for their translation project. It will be hot and muggy there. I'm not looking forward to that, as I will not be able to Facetime and see them or my two little grandsons then. Only satphone communications which will be expensive.

Hello Shirley!

Thank you so much for connecting with me. I'm very pleased to meet you.

I also took advantage of the Black Friday offer, last autumn. WA is a wonderful place to learn the online business, indeed. I haven't regretted one single day.

Shirley, I wish you a continued success. I'm looking forward networking with you.

All the best,
:-) Pernilla
