A New Domain Name, A New Theme, And A New Beginning
Hello everyone, It's been quite some time since I last blogged here at WA and I thought I would give you guys an update as to where I've been, and how things are going for me.
2016 has been quite a rough and bumpy year for me and things haven't been the greatest for me. This has mostly been due to many mistakes that I've made since I got back from the Las Vegas Super Affiliate Conference back in January.
What Mistakes Have I Made?
I have made several mistakes which I really regret but probably 1 of the biggest mistakes that I've made was changing my theme.
In the beginning I had no idea that this would have such a negative impact on my business and I struggled with this for quite some time.
I don't really want to go into a whole lot of detail on this but let's just say that it cut my traffic in half and caused me to lose nearly all my rankings in Google.
Also, the theme that I switched over to was so complex that I felt like I needed a degree in computer science to figure it out and make it work for me.
This caused me to start devoting less and less time building out my website and I wasn't as consistent as I probably should have been and this just added to my problems.
I started to pay for both of these things in more ways than 1 and these 2 things served as a huge wake up call for me.
How I Scored The Domain Name I Was Trying To Get For 3 Years & Turn Things Around!!
Many of you who are following me and have visited my website in the past should know that I've owned the plural version of my domain name A Work At Home Business ever since I started here back in 2012.
I had always wanted to acquire the singular version of this domain but it was never available because somebody else owned it. If it wasn't for my good buddy https://my.wealthyaffiliate.com/johncruz then I probably would have never scored this awesome domain name.
He let me know that the singular version of this domain name was available at Godaddy auctions. At first I was hesitant, because I had never bought a domain name from an action before and I wasn't sure how it worked.
After a few days went by, I checked to see if it was still available and to my surprise it was now available directly through Godaddy and I knew I had to get it.
It was a premium domain and it was on sale for $300.00 but it was well worth it and probably 1 of the smartest business decisions that I've ever made.
I figured this was a good time to get rid of that theme once and for all and start over fresh with a much more simpler one.
In case you're wondering what theme I'm talking about I'll tell you it was Divi from Elegant themes.
Once I transferred all the content on my old domain over to my new one I decided to go with Iconic One.
I've heard nothing but good things about them and this seems to be a very popular theme among many other WA members here.
It has been nearly 2 months since I made this transfer and I have been working my butt off to get this new domain off the ground.
Things are definitely looking up over the last few months and I can already see a huge rise in my rankings and my traffic has gone up significantly in this time.
No Matter How Tough Things Get Don't EVER Give Up!!
I'm not going to sit here and tell you that the thought of quitting didn't cross my mind cause I would be lying. However, I have invested entirely too much time and money in this business to just give up and be known as a failure.
I like to think of all of this as a learning experience and a new beginning for me. Even in the worst of times you should always try to stay positive and look on the bright side of things.
If you truly want to enjoy the freedom that comes with working from home and being an online marketer you will do whatever it takes to succeed.
If that means shutting all the distractions out of your life and working 12-16 hours per day then that's what you need to do.
I didn't spend nearly that much time to get my business back but there were several times I pulled an all nighter and have went on a content writing frenzy.
I have wiped the slate clean and I have reset my goals for the remainder of 2016 and on into 2017. I really hope this post has inspired all of you and hopefully you all can learn from my mistakes and avoid making these same ones.
If you have enjoyed this post or if you have already made these same mistakes, I would love to hear about it in the comments below.

Thanks for the low down Scott as a new starter it can feel very daunting but I'm determined to start making this work for me. Thanks for the inspiration :)
You are most welcome Jamie!
I remember when I started out almost 4 years ago and it was extremely daunting for me as well so I know what you must be going through about now.
Whatever you do, keep your head up and never think about quitting.
Cheers

I guess in your case, it is best to stay with the simple theme. The saying "keep it simple stupid (KISS)" is very true over here.
Sounds like you are making good progress , best of luck to you. I must add however , Divi is not that difficult to learn , and it's even easier now with Divi 3.0. It now has a visual builder which lets you modify web page live on your site , on the fly without having to open th editor .
Thanks for sharing your life experience. It has been a tough year for you. All the best as you move forward.

Wow Scott ... I had no idea. I guess I've been a little more distracted lately than I thought. But what a testimonial for the #1 action controlling everyone's success here at WA ... never give up.
In HS I had good friend. We played baseball together and when one of us were having a tough time, he would say to me, remember ... out of the mud grows the lotus. I had no clue what that meant, but it helped me bear down.
It sounds like you have had your ... out of the mud grows the lotus moment. A set back for sure, but now you are off to bigger and better things.
Thank you for sharing. I don't want to be a distraction, but since you are my mentor I'll be sending you a PM.
Hi Dennis,
Yes it has been a pretty crazy year for me and I've had a whole lot going on this year since the Vegas trip.
Most people only talk about the success that they have had and fail to mention the ups and downs of running an online business.
Over the past year, I have had quite a few down times, but I have always tried to see the positive side to everything and no matter what I'll never give up.
I have come entirely too far to look back now and I am definitely on to bigger and better things and continue to push forward.
I'm glad that this has helped you out Dennis and please feel free to PM me anytime you need a hand with anything, or if you just want to say hello.
It's always a pleasure to hear from you man and I'll look forward to your PM.
