News From Gmail !!
If you use Gmail, have an old Gmail account that you’re considering using again or were thinking about creating a Gmail account, please read on for some important information about the impact it will have on the investment advice you are currently receiving.
Gmail recently rolled out a new “tabbed inbox” feature that automatically filters your regular inbox into 5 separate inboxes. These inboxes will appear as tabs across the top labeling each “Primary, Social, Promotions, Updates and Forums.”
The problem is that they’ve made the decision for customers regarding which emails go into the various new inboxes. It’s an interesting and potentially time-saving concept for users—when it works correctly.
What Can You Do About It?
A majority of the emails that you want to read will show up under the tab marked “Promotions” regardless of whether they are pure content that you specifically asked to receive.
We’ve already heard from customers who have had this problem. The investment advice emails they rely on were automatically put in the “Promotions” folder right alongside their Amazon deals of the week and Groupon bargains.
The good news is that there is a quick fix that will ensure that you don’t miss any information that you’re waiting on. Here are the three steps to fix the problem:
- Click on the “Promotions” Inbox
- Drag any emails from people you want to hear from and drop them into the “Primary” Inbox
- Make sure to click “Yes” when asked if you want future emails to go into your “Primary” Inbox, and then you’re all set.
If you want to completely turn off the tabbed inbox feature altogether, follow these simple steps:
- Click on the “gear icon” in the upper right corner of your inbox and select “Settings”
- Click on the “Configure” Inbox and uncheck ALL of the categories except “Primary” then save your changes.
As Gmail continues to rollout these new tabbed inboxes, it’s important to regularly check your “Promotions” Inbox to make sure nothing you really want to receive is getting caught there.
