Fed up with $!&! Windows 10 being forced on you?

I know some of you like Windows 10 and that is fine. But, many of us don’t and want to stay with our Windows 7. We are not alone as is witnessed by the very slow adoption of Windows 10 by Windows 7 users.

I became fed up with the constant pressure of upgrading to Windows 10 so I took the plunge and upgraded to 10. After several days of tweaking, I had it finally working nearly how I wanted to. Then, to my dismay, I found that a couple of my programs which worked fine under 7 (including Microsoft’s own FileSync) no longer worked plus I lost my network connections. I was never able to restore my connections or HomeGroup. I (upgraded) back to 7 but kept being nagged by the Windows 10 upgrade. Even my Windows updates would not install without installing the Windows 10 grade first. Here is how I finally solved it.

Right clicking on the taskbar near the clock will allow you to select “customize notifications Icons”. Click on GWX (Get Windows 10) and change the selection to “Hide Icon and Notifications.” That, however, will not cure the pain-in-the-ass push. To completely stop the “push”, I recommend downloading a free (by donation) program called GWX Control Panel. With this easy to use program, you can completely stop the “push” and receive regular updates for your Windows 7.

About the time Windows 10 was coming out, I completely switched over to 100% Mac. Mostly motivated because I do iOS app development for a living. Been a happy camper since.

I just follow suit and hope to learn the new site. It does bother me when I figure it out and then it changes. Oh well, roll with it.

I've used 8 and like 7 better. Your experience convinced me to just continue to disregard the efforts to get me to "upgrade". As long as they support 7 I'm staying !

Glad you recovered from it. Interesting story. It only reaffirms my opinion against Windows 8 through 10. Despite what the condescending jerk below is saying, we are smart enough to know what's best and how to go about it.

I held out for a longtime with Windows 7, but decided to take the plunge and upgraded to Windows 10. It actually seems to run better and my computer I noticed has loaded up faster since the upgrade. I haven't any issues with, but hate to hear that you did. I'm glad though that you were able to go back to Windows 7.

As a Certified Professional I say to you... don't upgrade till you lose Internet access. It will increase our income if you don't. By the way I still have 1 Win 7 computer that I was going to hold back on upgrading however Win 10 runs so much better and we are smart enough to easily make thenchange.

I saw this topic a few weeks ago.

I too updated to windows 10, had compatability problems and wanted windows 7 back. At that time the rollback didn't work and had to uninstall 10 and completely reinstall 7!pain in the butt!!!

You should have gotten help from someone certified. We have done over 1000 upgrades and installs. But all of my people have College Degrees and Microsoft Certifications.

I have to admit ...I liked windows 7 better...but just purchased two computers at Christmas....and they are loaded with 10! Oh Well.
