Why Build Your Own Website?

Because of the Wealthy Affiliate platform, I have been able build my own website. This valuable and inexpensive experience, compared to bad past experience with expensive online marketing programs and webmasters, provided me with the answer to the question.

I've hired more than my share of people over the years to do my online work for me, only to spend far too much money and have it reap nothing except a paycheck for those I hired. I wanted to devote my time to my "real" projects offline. Without understanding what my online presence was really about and how it could be optimized to enhance my offline business, everything I wanted my online presence to do for my offline business fell short. I didn't understand that my online presence was more than having a website and posting on social media.

Examples of the nightmare experiences include a "hosting" person who one webmaster talked me into hiring for 10 times ("pay upfront for the better pricing") what I could have done myself. He never fixed my email@mydomain problem after I switched from PC to Mac. Said it can't be done. So email stopped working mid-stream!

Both webmasters I hired at different times built websites, then after that insisted I pay a substantial monthly fee for them to properly maintain the site they built. Yet there were always broken links they didn't notice. They always blamed it on the vendor whose ads weren't working, and didn't follow up to get new code or whatever was needed until I brought it to their attention. Then it took a while, because, heck, they already had my money! Visitors clicked my ads, were frustrated, and left. Then I would stop paying the webmaster du jour.

Off I went, and hired companies that claimed their virtual office assistant would handle everything for me. But of course I had to pay thousands up front to help me get things right before they would maintain my online presence. Same old huge ripoff!

Worst of all, by every one of them along the way I was sent to the wolve's den of social media without understanding how to post effectively and attract people who wanted my stuff. No marketing 101 briefing for smart posting.

Build Your Own Website the Right Way

What I learned by building my own website was that my website was key to my business; not just a place to send people after I spoke to their group, to buy my stuff or email me at my own impressive address with my domain name. Even if they tried, well, you already know the rest of the story.

When you learn how to build your own website properly through the WA platform as I have, one of the first things you learn is how to optimize your search engine rankings. This is known as SEO, or Search Engine Optimization. WA members' rankings are good when they follow the lessons; I often see them post on the WA forum that their websites are coming up on the first page, or even first on the first page!

Another aspect of WA is the WA forum I just mentioned. Besides the two courses you can choose from, WA members post trainings and blogs (like this one) with information that comes up for them as they are building. (WA has created an incentivized system for the experts here to provide great info to the other members, but I won't go into that here.) The information can be pulled up by topic thereafter, so it's easy to ask a question which has an answer already available. If the answer you need is not there, you post the question to the members, and many will jump in and answer based on their experience. Many of these members have been using the WA platform for years and really know their stuff!

If you follow members within the WA system, you will receive in your email the subject line of their posts and trainings. If it's something you want to learn more about, open the email and you will go to their post or training. The trainings include step-by-step with photos and/or videos, so you can easily do what they are suggesting.

Build Your Own Website Free

WA offers a free program whereby you can build your own website. You could actually never pay and have a functioning website up and running in less than an hour. You can continue using it that way, but unless you already know a lot, you will probably eventually get stuck in a place kind of where I was before I found WA. You won't know how to optimize your site to generate traffic and sales. If you already know how to do that, you probably are adept with website building anyway, and won't need WA. You can just use Wordpress or some other platform.

By the way, WA does use Wordpress, but without the geek speak lessons that prevent most of us from getting far with WP. And WA adds all kinds of measures to prevent spamming of your comments and other various and sundry issues that I'm not smart enough to even know about. The WA platform helps protect your work in ways only true masters can because it is owned and operated by two masters, Kyle and Carson. These guys really know their stuff and stay on top of it for you!

Building your own website requires a lot of patience, but WA has the answers you need to get the job done. Not only that, but you will become proficient with interfacing your SEO through keywords, social media, and anything else that needs to be interfaced to get your website noticed. You'll also learn good practices that prevent Google from dinging your rankings for doing things you wouldn't otherwise recognize as NO-NOs. You will learn the best way to set up your website, learn how to blog efficiently and effectively, build and use an email list, and engage on social media. You'll learn all the ins and outs for owning and operating an online business.

I only wish I had known of WA many years ago. If I had seen it, I probably would have thought, "You get what you pay for" and hired someone anyway. Lesson learned. Now I just follow the lessons on WA. KISS and win!
