6 Ways to Make Money on YouTube in a Nutshell

In this post, I'll quickly walk you through 6 ways to make money on YouTube.

Let’s start immediately with the first strategy which I’m the most familiar with and that is:

1) Affiliate marketing

How Does It Work?

1. Get an affiliate link.
2. People go to your link and take some action (=buy a product, sign up to an email list, etc.)
3. You earn money.

Benefits:

• Start monetizing your channel from 0 subscribers.
• Get paid for doing something you do anyway (=Everyone is recommending some products whether or not they do affiliate marketing. Why not also get paid for that?)
• Help people more (You can only help so much with your videos but when you recommend relevant products, they can usually help your audience much more.)

Affiliate marketing is a win-win-win situation:

1. Your audience wins.
2. You win.
3. The company you promote wins.

You should prioritize your audience in your promotions => Only recommend things that are truly helpful for your audience!

2) YouTube Ads

How Does It Work?

YouTube shows ads Before - During - After Videos And on the other places on YouTube, for example, in the sidebar.

When your viewers engage with those ads, you'll earn money.

Benefits:

• Easy = Make Money with a click of a button by activating ads
• Usually a stable income, doesn't fluctuate very much month by month

3) Sponsored videos

How Does It Work?

A company pays you money for mentioning their products.

Benefits:

• You get guaranteed income
• You get sometimes paid even BEFORE doing the video
• This can be “extra” for something that you’re already doing.

4) Promoting Your Own Products

How Does It Work?

You have your own product/service.

You promote it in videos.

When people buy, you earn money.

Benefits:

• Usually highest potential profits
• You'll have more control (compare to Ads vs affiliate where your affiliate partner or YouTube may change the rules anytime)

5) Merchandise

How Does It Work?

You sell some goods that are related to your channel often things such as t-shirts, caps, mugs, etc.

Benefits:

• Builds stronger community
• People wear your clothes give you free marketing
• A stronger relationship with your fans

6) Channel Memberships

How Does It Work?

You enable channel memberships on your channel.

Your viewers become click "Join" and pay a small fee to become channel “members”.

Benefits:

• Easy & Fast
• Stronger Community
• More personal touch with your audience.
