Why You Need A Work-At-Home Schedule
Hello People
It never ceases to amaze me what the members will blog about within WA and to tell you the truth I’m even more amazed that they actually have the time to do this. I believe I’m like most members and think there isn’t enough hours in the day to get all that needs to be done on a daily basis.
I know that one of the attractions of working at home is the vision of freedom it invokes. There’s no time clock, no time sheets, and no one to account to for how you spend your time. It is a very attractive proposition, but like so many attractive propositions there is a downside. Anyone have any idea what this is?
You are most likely wasting a lot of time.
Way back in the day when I worked for the UK government I used to spend a lot of time entering data into huge spreadsheets to account for my days and all the people I used to train. You may or may not like working with spreadsheets but I did and I was very good at creating a spreadsheet for virtually every task I had to do.
A lot of my colleagues used to think it was a waste of my time and I could be better employed doing something more constructive. Every one of those people changed their mind when it came to publishing their end of month stats. I had everything for myself at my fingertips while they where running around like headless chickens trying to find these figures or those and what about those other ones buried somewhere in the filing cabinets lol.
What I’m saying is - having my own spreadsheets and agenda for every single day improved my productivity and reduced my stress immeasurably. If you don't think you need a schedule for your home business then think again - and read on.
You should always have a "To Do" list and you should be working your way through it every day, and this is only if things are ticking along but what happens when disaster strikes and you have no backup plan in place, or you don’t have the information to hand to get yourself out of a sticky situation?
After studying what you have to accomplish on a daily basis to keep your business and your website running smoothly you will soon realize that you must have a schedule:
1. It's too easy to waste time doing non-priority tasks
2. It's too easy to get sidetracked or distracted from your current task
3. Unscheduled work time can often overlap into your free time until you don't have any free time at all
4. Your free time can overlap into your work time until you fall behind with important tasks
5. Concentrating your time and effort on highest priority projects means more gets done
I recently took part in an online forum where men and women had moved to embrace a Schedule - and found it more freeing than restrictive. After all, you are still the one setting the schedule so you are free to schedule yourself off for a 3-hour lunch, an afternoon, or a whole day whenever you choose.
If you find it difficult setting up your schedule and priorities for the day and week then perhaps your significant other or a friend can help you set your schedule.
There you go people - As I said above. If you don't think you need a schedule for your home business - then think again.
I wouldn’t mind knowing what other members think about this so please leave a comment.
Have a great day/evening.
Robert Allan

Thank you Robert for this kick up the ass. I have ordered planners (waiting for them to arrive) as I realised from Jude's blog the other day that I get distracted and do not achieve what I could achieve but also I have numerous lists in my head, it makes me tired, so Im going to use a planner - get it out of my head and free the brain power to get on wit the tasks! :)
Hello Helen and thank you for your comment.
Someone in your position should have some sort of schedule set up.
But remember that all work and no play will make Helen a dull girl lol.
Enjoy what's left of your Tuesday over there in sunny Spain.
Robert
I think on my agenda I need to add - go back through all of Robert's blogs as they are such good advice
Hello Pauline and thank you for your comment and the compliment.
I suppose that right this minute you're busy setting up your own schedule lol.
It makes sense to have some sort of plan in place that allows you some leeway and some 'Me' time.
Enjoy what's left of your Tuesday.
Robert
I agree Robert. I don't have much time as it is to work on my website. So I definitely need to stay on a schedule in order to get something accomplished. So thank you for the reminder!
Dale
No probs Dale and thank you for reading my blog and for your comment.
It does make sense to schedule your time when you have other things you have to do throughout the day/week.
Enjoy your Tuesday.

Nice article Robert. It takes a lot of self discipline to work at home and having a schedule is one of the best ways to keep yourself on track.
Hello Horace and thank you for your comment.
Its nice being your own boss but you have to stop giving yourself time off lol.
Get a schedule set up and you would be surprised how much you can actually get done.
Enjoy your day.

I agree Robert, it is all too easy to end up having no free time which kind of negates why we're here :)
No time for the odd glass you mean lol.
Joking aside you know it makes sense to have some kind of plan for the time you spend within WA.
Thank you for your comment Jude and enjoy what's left of your Tuesday.

Hello Mike and thank you for reading my blog and for the 'Nice'.
You know it makes sense.
Have a nice day.

I have run many spreed sheets on my auto business,
But now I am older and down to 2 helpers I slowed down on production.
also with all the emails and still working full time I have set my schedule to make it happen everyday. and so far it works.
But it ends up being 14 hour days.
You should learn to delegate Mike.
Find out if your helpers have hidden talents and spread the work around.
Send them on a computer course or have them study at home.
Lots of training courses set out in DVD's.
Robert
But they can watch the Training DVD's at night.
I'm going to sign off now as its getting late.

Well, my last blog was actually on it, Robert, but yes, it's necessary to schedule much more.....
Thanks for sharing, that's worth tagging.......
Hello Therese and thank you for your comment.
Sorry, didn't read your blog but two reminders to set up a plan of action will be twice as effective don't you think?
Hope so anyway.
Enjoy your day Therese.
