How To Optimize Content For User Experience

Hi Folks

When you write content for your website personalization is something you should always keep in mind.

Here’s what you can do to perform better in personalized searches:

1. Geodemographic Segmentation - Optimize For Location

When you have your own online home business you must keep in mind that some people are more prone to supporting local companies. Therefore it makes sense to make sure that your own location is visible on your website. You could also mention your home town/city by name a couple of times in your content.

Keep your Google My Business listing up to date. Odds are that this listing will appear before your website in local searches. Aim for consistency across channels – you want all your contact data to appear the same on your social media accounts, website, Google My Business, YouTube and any other channel.

2. Mobile Friendliness

80 percent of searches for 'Near Me' happen from a mobile device. In fact, more and more searches take place on mobile devices. You don’t want to be left out, so make sure that your website is mobile responsive.

What about content?

Think about what you like, and what annoys you most when you read something on a small screen. Large blocks of text are a definite No No.

Instead:

  • Use bullet points or numbered lists to give the reader the chance to skim the text
  • Break the text up with subtitles – some readers may not be interested in the entire article or web page, so they should be able to navigate easily
  • Bold and Italic fonts are a great way to emphasize key concepts
  • Use visuals to break down the text and to make it more reader friendly. Use photos, videos, tables, infographics – anything visual is great for mobile users

Here is a training by my good friend Loes. I suggest you go to it and test your site

3. User Intent

Instead of targeting broad keywords, try to using long-tail keywords. They are more likely to generate visitors from a targeted audience. Think about User Intent, it will pay off.

1. What could drive readers to your website?

2. What questions can you answer for them?

3. How can you solve their problems?

This is what your keyword research should be focused on: understanding what drives your customer in each phase of the buyer journey.

For example, a classic car rental company could target ‘cars for rent in London’. However, that would be pretty hard to rank for. ‘Classic Cars For Rental In London, United Kingdom’, on the other hand, is much easier to rank for.

More importantly, such keywords speak volumes on user intent. A generic search for classic cars for rent could show that the user is still not sure what they want. The more specific the keyword, the better your chances through your SEO.

4. Targeted Audience

When people new to internet marketing think about who they are going to target the biggest percentage believe they should target as many people as possible.

There's a problem with this thinking. You know what it is? If you write for everyone you’ll end up writing for no one.

Try to reverse engineer the search engine's approach. For example if Google takes into account a user’s history and social media activity to deliver personalized results, then you must do this as well. Make sure that personalized searches work for you, not against you.

Ok folks there you have it and I hope you take away these tips and advice and use them in your own online efforts.

Of course if any member has some more, they can leave them via a comment below.

Onwards and upwards and be successful.
