Are you just a blogger?
Rob Fraser here…
My first time blogging here on Wealthy Affiliate so go easy on me =)
I’ve been considering blogging on WA but have always just dedicated that time into my own website and marketing. I figure it is high time to give back!
I’m not new to blogging and have been doing it off and on since late 2010. One of the biggest lessons I have learned was that I “should have never took those long breaks off” but anywho…
My question is “are you just a blogger?”
I’ve seen another blog a while back from a person who is cranking out the blog posts and fighting off carpal tunnel and thought about that (and this person) for a while.
Cranking out numbers of blogs is good, but is it the best use of your energy? Some will say yes and others will say “it’s not the amount of blog posts you write, but how you promote those posts” and after being on both sides, have found my own frequency and formula.
Of course, make sure you are using those keyword research tools from Jaaxy and are writing about stuff that will bring you traffic!
Keep in mind this is amid taking care of a 3 year old, 2 dogs, 6 chickens, 1 horse, the lady I married, and I’m pretty sure I’m forgetting someone or something.
So again, I ask are you just a blogger?
I’ve had people ask if I’m a YouTuber (since I also “do YouTube”) and I used to say yes, but at the end of the day we are all “marketers” (or ‘work in sales and marketing’) and blogging (or vlogging) is just one aspect.
That being said going back to that person fighting off carpal tunnel, this post can help (I hope).
What I’ve found is that people like staying on certain platforms. This means if they like YouTube, then most of the time they want YouTube content. If someone loves Facebook, then that person wants Facebook.
It’s challenging to get that person to go from a blog to a video (usually) or from Facebook to LinkedIn.
I don’t want to “miss” out on traffic simply because I’m only blogging. I already created the content and now it’s a repurposing game!
My method of operation is I write up a post. Whatever I blog about, I cut a short YouTube video summarizing the blog or speak on something very similar.
My blogging D.M.O. (daily method of operation)
I also record an audio of what the blog is about in podcast form. Now instead of “just a blog,” I now have 3 pieces of content getting that same general traffic from 3 different platforms now. I’ve turned one blog post into 3 pieces of content.
Keep in mind, depending on the topic you will have to adjust the content. If you are demonstrating something in your blog, then find a way to speak out that demonstration in your podcast. If I can’t verbally explain it, I’ll tell folks in my podcast to go to my blog or video!
I’ve seen other Wealthy Affiliate affiliates do this same practice and have incorporated this into my own marketing. It also depends on your niche as well.
I’ve had my podcast and video rank high in the search engines before my blog and vice versa.
On top of this, I also repurpose my blog into a LinkedIn article, Facebook posts, memes, and of course email it to my lists!
Every 2 weeks, I produce 5 pieces of high-quality content (1 of them being a blog) and have been “full time” in affiliate marketing since late 2015.
What about you? Do you “just blog” or do you repurpose your content and regularly promote it?
Until next time!
Rob Fraser =)

Hey Rob,
I think this very much depends on what you're trying to create in terms of your business.
Plus, I've never believed there's a right way and a wrong way.
Now, let's say your business is more focused on YOU, as in you're trying to build your brand.
I believe it makes a lot of sense to "have your fingers in a lot of pies", i.e. write great content, promote that content via a variety of channels, immerse yourself in community, get involved, and be a "genuinely great person".
Makes perfect sense.
People Buy People.
The more you get your name out there, as long as you're providing value, then good things will eventually happen.
HOWEVER (there's always a "however" with me, LOL)
I typically create niche sites, so in effect, I may not wish to cast myself as expert (although I still adhere to Google's E.A.T. and take this into consideration with niche sites).
I'm perhaps not looking to build my brand.
My method with niche sites will be to find "underserved" topics to write about.
So, as I'm not building a brand, I don't really need to compete with the "Big Boys".
Therefore, I don't need to produce the same content (but only better) as everyone else.
There's plenty of organic traffic to be found by writing about underserved topics, more often than not, things that hardly anyone (if anyone) else is writing about at all.
You know as well as me Rob, that even writing around EXTREMELY low hanging fruit, you will generally rank immediately.
As your content matures, you'll typically rank for a vast array of other "keywords" that are relevant to your content.
So, as far a niche-related site goes, maybe I'm looking to stay under the radar in terms of who I am.
But, as long as my content serves the reader's purpose I can still build trust, expertise and authority in that niche.
For me, I have always focused on the shotgun appraoch when it comes to niche sites.
If I've fully immersed myself in research, I've found plenty of underserved topics to create content around, I see nothing wrong with producing an absolute avalanche of content.
But, I get your point, this isn't the only way, and it isn't for everyone.
I've recently written about - finding the main thing that will drive your business forward, and then spending 90% of time actually doing that ONE THING.
I know for my niche sites, I can also get involved in social media, Q&A sites, forums, and of yes, video as well.
However, this eats into my 90%.
But, this is just me.
This doesn't mean that everyone should take this approach to building niche sites.
That's simply what I choose to do and it works for me.
"If it ain't broke, then don't fix it".
But, to go back to my original point - There's no right way or wrong way, there's simply different ways.
Does that make sense?
Enjoyed reading this Rob.
Thanks
Partha
Yes absolutely! Depends on what your goals are!
I've also found that you can do videos and not be in them at all.
There are many ways to skin a cat!
Thanks for your input and am certainly thinking about some of the things you have shared. I've found my way being "the brand" but somedays, I like to just hide in my hole.
I'm branching out into "true" affiliate marketing to where I'm not "the guy"
Here is to our continued success!!
