Grasp that Nettle!

Funny how things change. When I joined WA in earlier this month (April), my intention was to create a site in a niche that would be relatively easy as it was something I knew well. I paint in watercolour (plus others), so I felt that would be a good fit for me and I can talk about it until the cows come home and I run a local art club here in the UK.

I started with the initial training and got to the point of creating a domain name. But I just couldn’t do it. It was only about a week after I’d joined and I’d started to get that little voice at my shoulder whispering in my ear – ‘Are you Sure?’ Is this the right one?’ I’ll can tell you, I was going to bed with the most dreadful headaches!

Then something happened. I checked WA one morning and there was a post from The Abie about changes entitled ‘Embracing Change and Finding Opportunities’. It really resonated with me on that morning. I knew I had to make a change!

The strange thing was that since I’d signed up for WA and decided on my niche of watercolour painting, I’d lost complete interested in painting. I have a studio in our garden and most days I would have gone there to paint, play with stuff or attempt to tidy and get woefully distracted by some arty gear I’d found buried. But I’d just lost it – my mojo had gone. ☹

After reading TheAbie’s post I had to do something, so I chatted to my husband and during the conversation we ended up talking about our beloved Bobby. Bobby was our 13yr old Working Cocker Spaniel who died last April 2022. Hubby & I just looked at each other and the decision was made – it’s DOGS.

I dropped a message to my mentor, Eric, and started changing my niche and focus. A name was quickly created ‘LovemyHappyDog’ and I went ahead and bought the domain name.

I’ve gone through all the training again, from the beginning, and now caught up to where I was before. I had gone further with the training, just not posted anything further on my previous free site. My mind is a lot clearer and I’m not going to bed with an awful headache!

My new site has a couple of posts and pictures so it’s coming along nicely and today I got a pop up from WA saying that I’d got the Google badge as my website is being ranked by Google. When I looked it was on page 4 of Google.

So, I suppose what I saying is that it’s Ok to change your mind. Trust yourself. If it doesn’t feel right, then it probably isn’t and no amount of tweaking and training will help you settle into it.

Seize the day, grasp the nettle, and make that change – you’ll be thankful you did. I am.
