What is a Landing Page?

A landing page is a single web page that visitors arrive at after clicking on a link or advertisement. The main purpose of a landing page is to capture information from visitors in exchange for something valuable like a coupon code or free guide.

Personally, I have only created a couple of landing pages when I was running my pay-per-click (PPC) campaign. I am still in the learning and researching stage.

Here are some resources:

Landing pages are different from regular website pages because they have a specific focus. They are designed to guide visitors to complete one desired action, like signing up for a newsletter or making a purchase.

Difference Between Landing Pages and Websites

Websites are meant for general exploration with lots of links and options. Landing pages have a narrow focus on converting visitors. Websites introduce a business, while landing pages promote one particular offer.

Benefits of Landing Pages

The main benefit of landing pages is higher conversion rates. By focusing on one clear call to action, visitors are more likely to complete it rather than get distracted.

Other benefits include:

  • Targeting specific campaigns or offers
  • Generating more leads by offering resources in exchange for contact info
  • Driving traffic and brand awareness
  • Credibility through simplicity and relevance

Do I Need Landing Pages if I Have a Website?

Yes, landing pages complement websites. Websites establish brand identity and provide general information. Landing pages convert visitors into leads and sales for specific offers. Dedicated landing pages prevent visitors from getting distracted by everything else on your website.

Ideal Users of Landing Pages

Any business running advertising campaigns or wanting to generate leads should use landing pages. They allow you to tailor messaging and offers to different audiences. Landing pages are essential for:

  • Ecommerce sites with multiple products
  • Businesses with niche or complex products/services
  • Companies wanting to capture visitor data

Components of High-Converting Landing Pages

  • Appealing headline and subheading
  • Relevant visuals like photos or illustrations
  • Clearly articulated customer problem or need
  • Explanation of how offer solves problem
  • Bulleted list of benefits
  • Social proof like customer reviews
  • Clear call-to-action button above the fold
  • Contact information for inquiries

What Not to Do on Landing Pages

Some common landing page mistakes include:

  • Having too many calls-to-action which causes confusion
  • Assuming shorter forms convert better than longer forms
  • Keeping website headers and footers that link away
  • Mismatched ad and landing page messaging
  • Not designing responsively for mobile

Should I Pay for Landing Pages

It depends on your needs. Free landing page builders have good templates to get started. Paid tools have more customization, integrations, and analytics. Calculate your conversion value to know if paid tools make financial sense.

Most Important Elements of Landing Pages

The headline, subheading and value proposition are most critical. The headline grabs attention, while the subheading and paragraphs explain the offer’s relevance and benefits. Emphasizing value upfront keeps visitors engaged.

Potential Disadvantages of Landing Pages

  • Limited flexibility from pre-made templates
  • Not ideal for complex or expensive products
  • Can feel promotional rather than educational
  • Extra work compared to general website page

Success Rates of Landing Pages

Industry averages for landing page conversion rates are about 2%. Well-designed landing pages can achieve 5% or higher. Conversion rates vary significantly based on your niche, offer details and traffic quality. Set realistic goals and experiment.

How to Create a Landing Page

Follow these steps to make an effective landing page:

1. Choose a template that matches your brand style

2. Give your page a targeted title and URL

3. Customize the template with your text, photos and videos

4. Ensure links and submission buttons work properly

5. Write compelling meta descriptions for SEO

6. Publish and test your page with target audiences

Continue optimizing your landing pages over time for maximum conversions.

Final Thoughts

Landing pages are simple yet powerful tools for converting website visitors into leads and customers. By guiding visitors through a customer journey focused on one specific offer, landing pages enable higher conversion rates compared to general website pages. Developing targeted, well-designed landing pages is a smart investment that generates greater ROI from digital marketing campaigns and content offers. Treat your landing pages as living assets that get better through continual testing and improvement.

Thanks Rachele! 🙏

I am now cleaning up my website as well as reorganizing and redesigning it. I have plans to work on my landing pages for 2024. So, this is useful for me.

Tim

Hi there, Tim.

I am also revamping my website. Looks like the Google algorithms through everyone for a loop. However, I am sure the 2024 will escalate everything back up to par.

Happy Tuesday!
Rachele

Oh, were there changes to the Google algorithm? I wasn't aware. I'm redoing my website and optimizing the image sizes just to improve my website. Only because I want to.

Going to do the same for my other website, too.

All this to get ready for 2024.

Tim

Hi Tim.

Optimizing image sizes sounds like a great plan. Your website will be all ready for the New Year.

ParthB has posted about this. Here is the whole Google ordeal. However, I am assuming that not every website was affected.

Have a pleasant Tuesday.
Rachele

Thanks, Rachele.

Tim

You are most welcome, Tim.

Rachele

This reminds me of that song "Rock DJ" by Robbie Williams.

Again, Where's your E.E.A.T. (sorry to be picking on you)? Im doing it because I feel like it. Google said so. Experience counts. Can you show us how you would create a landing page? Dont tell us; SHOW ME, GIRL! Have you created a landing page? Do you know how to do one? I just did one for an HTML landing page. It was so easy to use. There is no need to spend a lot of money buying into other landing pages. AI can create one within a few minutes. I got my landing page going in less than a second and asked for a revision to make it exactly what I wanted. I am testing three different landing pages with three different button colors (I wrote about that on my WA blogs). My goal is to see which one gets more clicks. So far, it's the green button. But that's just recent. I still have a month to go for the data to come.

I'd like to know how the three tests turn out Brenda!

Yes, I will post my data about it. It will be confirmed sometime in January or so in 2024. I need to give it time. I use green, orange and red. Blue is the most common button color. I noticed people dont click that, so I stopped using blue and used the other three colors. Let's see how it pans out. I promise. It's my case study and my project, therefore, I have to pay heed to it.

Hi Brenda,

Reading your comment, I can say that the first part is very mean, especially because Rachele posted one of your articles as a reference. Your article also does not SHOW (in the video) how to create a landing page.

If you have more experience than her, I think you can teach her without being arrogant. But as I noticed in several of your comments you like to be picky in general, as you do with many members.

This only makes me give you a big UNFOLLOW, and I'm sure I'm not losing anything special.

Good luck!

Thank you
