I love instant success, but I'm building for the long-term.

The thing about embarking on my affiliate marketing adventure is that I wanted instant success. And I got it when I started writing articles on Squidoo during the Halloween season. And it was very gratifying. Readers were clicking on my affiliate links left and right, buying everything from Iron Man costumes to camera equipment.

But then November came, and sales slowed to a trickle. I guess no one really goes crazy buying things on Amazon for Thanksgiving. I did write an article on Turducken in the hopes of selling one through an affiliate link. But alas, I did not sell a turducken this year. In fact, I only sold about six small items, the equivalent of maybe $2 in advertising referrals.

I lost my motivation.

Then December came, and sales started to pick up again. Yesterday, I made 18 sales! That is the highest number of sales I have had in one day. I'm starting to get really excited about what I'm doing on WA and Squidoo all over again. My articles convert, and I do have a knack for it. What I really need for success is perseverance and patience, which are virtues that I can't buy. I can learn, though :)

The thing about this stuff is realizing there are both tortoises and hares in this business. It doesn't matter which one you are. Just know that both eventually make it to the finish line.

Great to hear of your return successes! It happens to everyone in every kind of endeavour that things slow down for a spell. But, this too shall pass, as you have just proven. Best wishes for your continued success!

Thank you, Theos!

Great to hear that you that your sales are picking up and that your articles are working well for you! 18 sales is a great accomplishment and it is very motivating to start seeing the potential that Internet marketing offers.

Keep building on what you are working on because you've got a good thing here. Your blog post is great motivation to others here at WA who are just getting started :)

Carson

Thanks, Carson! :)

Way to go. Your post is very motivating to us all.

Thanks, amfc!

Hi there, congratulations on making progress. Looking at the facts of the business world I used to work in, and I say this in the kindest way, you will experience sales up and down patterns as you go forward. This is normal and the only way to make a more smooth income stream is to increase the number of different product lines you have so that where you see a dip in one line you will see an increase in another.
The other point is that effort in one line needs to be put in to get it started and then you need to monitor the effort required as you factor in such things as seasonality.
Hope this helps and you don't mind these sort of comments; they are meant to be constructive.
I notice you are having success with Squidoo which I had just started to look at - do you mind telling me please what is your squidoo titles as I would like to be able to look at a successfull one to gain knowledge on how you did it - nothing more,
Thanks and regards
Hudson.

You go girl ... lol! Sometimes a tortoise will speed up for a tasty morsel, sometimes even a hare has to slow down. It's a huge benefit that you know you have the knack to write articles that convert so it's all good

Thanks, Fallulah!

Well Done! Keep it Up!!

Thanks, fisheagle!

Try & not limit yourself to just Squidoo articles though... don't be scared of buying your own sites and putting content on them. That's really awesome you're making sales too. ~ Seth

Thanks, Seth! I'm going to start concentrating on my own sites in March. I actually have a bunch of domain names, but the almost instant success I get with Squidoo is a little bit addictive right now. I'm going to start concentrating on my own sites soon though. Thanks for reminding me!

Pooky, only 1 domain is needed. ;) Trust me. Squidoo allows you to easily cover a bunch of topics, so it's a little different with them. You could always put on your site "Partners" and link to your Squidoo article page. you could even occassionally feature some of your articles on your site sometimes. There's a lot you can do. Gl.

You have actually done extraordinarily well as most people are tryin for about two years before they make a Sale and around 90% never do!

Thank you! That's great motivation to keep moving forward :)

Wonderful post AND attitude, Pooky!

Thanks, Bill!

Pooky

Dips in motivation happen to everyone. My advice is think of some strategies you can use when that happens eg - perhaps start a new Squidoo lens just for fun - perhaps on something you wouldn't normally do - or just take a complete break.

You have done so well and I think you're an inspiration to many. You started with realistic expectations and you've been building or the time.

Best wishes

Beverley

Thanks, BIS! It's always great to hear from you. I think you are right. Sometimes taking a complete break is exactly what the IM mindset needs.
