Watch Out for This Amazon Scam
Watch Out for This Amazon Scam
I ordered some expensive jewelry for my wife from Amazon.
She was really excited and looking forward to it.
Imagine our disappointment when what showed up was...
A collection of brand-new motorcycle parts!
Fortunately, they fit my motorcycle, so I guess not a total loss.
P.S.
This was an example of clickbait, and you have a right to be angry and upset.
Or... you might just think it's funny, which was the intention.
But the fact that you clicked on it showed that it worked.
Clickbait is an interesting technique that works well for an online business, as long as you deliver something other than disappointment.

This is a bit scary... However, thanks for this timely and very interesting and informative read, Phil…thank you for sharing!

The sad part is that I have had people I know actually have similar stuff happen from AMAZON and Ebay. Always check out the seller before purchase.
Presumably, Mathew, you realized that this was a joke illustrating clickbait. It's an imaginary husband who orders parts for his motorcycle but tells his wife he's ordered expensive jewelry for her.
Sorry, Cristina, the whole thing is a joke illustrating clickbait. It's an imaginary husband who orders parts for his motorcycle but tells his wife he's ordered expensive jewelry for her.
Surely they must have just skimmed it. You couldn't read the whole thing and not "get it". Could you? Or is it a difference between the Aussie and American sense of humor?
I’m going to lean on the side of skimming here. If you read it, you’d definitely “get it.” But it did make for a good test. ;-)
Yes, I was so lucky that the parts not only fitted exactly but coincided with ones that needed to be replaced.
I don't think it''s funny.
I offer a concern of empathy to your wife.
Been there, done that, bought that T shirt!

Hah hah,
reminded me of that Simpsons episode many years ago when Homer got Marge a bowling ball that said Homer on it for her birthday.
I definitely was curious to what the latest Amazon scandal was and clicked fast, hah hah.
I'm so glad I was right. Reading the others comments made me start worrying I looked cold hearted and misread the situation, hah hah.
I was surprised that some thought it was genuine. I starting to wonder if it's partly the difference between the Aussie and American sense of humor.
I'm American and got it right off.
I think that some of it can be attributed to folks here don a supportive persona to the point it overshadows at times looking deeper than the surface. You are one of the more respected/knowledgeable members here, which has nothing to do with the internal rank of which you also hold a respectable position in.
So combining the over the top supportive positions adopted coupled with so many viewing you as a mentor of sorts it likely makes it harder for many in the room to see you in a less than serious role.
I notice a lot of bizarre social occurrences here at WA based on this dynamic.
I appreciated the humor as I don't feed into that energy I see here, so I'm free to see folks as they are. :) It was a welcome humor amidst all the seriousness while also having a lesson built in.
Regards,
Jason

Thanks, Kevin. Not everyone got it.
