AI and Robots
Techno Convergence
Some of the most life-changing inventions resulted from the convergence of unrelated technologies.
Consider
- Semi-conductors (which lead to small circuit boards requiring little power)
- Micro-processors (massive computing power in a small chip)
- Liquid crystal displays (flat screens with full color)
- Digital photography
- Wireless protocols like Bluetooth
- The internet and search engines (knowledge at your fingertips; email; text messages; video communications and streaming)
All of these and more came together to produce a device that did all of it and can be held in your hand.
The smart phone contains more computing power than the Apollo 11 mission used to reach the Moon.
And our kids and grandkids take the miracle for granted. It's one of the reasons technological progress is exponential. We stand on the shoulders of those who have gone before.
What's the Next One?
Here's my guess.
- AI
- Robotics
- 3D Printers
will converge to make robots that act as companions and helpers.
They'll initially be very expensive (as flat screen televisions were initially) and produced in precision factories (as CDs were originally but evolved to where they could be produced on your PC).
Imagine if you could use AI to design your robot's face and body, instruct your 3D printer to build it and then download the AI software (which you've tailored for the personality traits you want) to its storage device with over the air updates for continual improvement.
Can you imagine the legislative tangle this would create?
I'm So Interested in Your Opinion
What do you think of this possibility?
What other techno convergences can you imagine?

When I was a teen, a cellphone was what we called a car phone, which was installed in the car and cost a fortune to buy and use. The company my dad worked for had one put in his car. I always thought it was so cool, and I never would have imagined, back then, that a car phone would be held in our hand, cost a fraction of the price of his car phone, and be a fraction of the size in the future.
I believe AI and robotics are the future, and I can even imagine nanobots having a more significant role in our lives.

Yes, I remember driving along the freeway and talking hands-free to a colleague in New Zealand. I thought that technology was amazing, but where it's all heading is mind-blowing.
Nanobots in the bloodstream is a possible future too. Thanks, Nancy.
Very true, Phil, until it doesn't! We will wait and see!
I hope you are enjoying the new week!

AI consulting with a Human Touch :) I believe that will be BIG business, and the sooner we harness it, the better.
I am looking forward to it with great enthusiasm :)
I am currently providing services on a pro bono basis to qualified individuals so that I can learn from the process, showcase my research, make adjustments, and further enhance my skills. Eventually, I plan to offer consulting services for a fee.
Thank you, Phil :)
'GPT-5' will soon be out, lol. You can subscribe to 'Claude 3 Opus'—things are developing quickly. I hope I can live up to expectations.
Also, there are many other developments in nearly all fields.

I've thought for years that my grandmother, born in 1896, saw more significant changes through her life than we would ever see in ours, but I'm beginning to rethink that now. With AI, robots and flying cars being being a reality, it's just a matter of time before they (and more) are all part of our daily lives.
Thanks, Phil!

it's exponential, Tim.
