How to avoid duplicate contents
Hello WAers!
I just wanted to share how you can avoid people duplicating your contents. Many of us know that duplicate content sucks. It can even have a negative impact on your ranking.
There are some folks who are just lazy, they copy articles from any website they want. Here are some of the problems you can have with duplicate contents.
·Search engine might not know which one to rank for search results.
·It becomes a problem for search engine to know which version to include or exclude from their indices
·Search engine will not know where to direct the link metrics
What can we do to solve the problem?
There are various solutions; one good one is to purchase a plugin that help you protect your content. You can try out any WORDPRESS PROTECTION plugin.
This leads me to the reason am making this blog. I came across a website known as COPYSCAPE, this website helps you check for a duplicate content. The good thing is that it’s FREE.
If you want to know if people have duplicated your content around the web, this could be your best bet. Many people sell same content to lots of people online, this is why I don’t like buying contents from people.
In conclusion, if you want to buy any article online, check it out with this tool before paying for it, you might be buying a duplicate article. I hope this helps.
Kelly :)

I am using Copyscape banner on my pages. I wonder if I should use it on my blog post as well.
Just so you know, Cathy, copyscape doesn't stop anyone from copying your content. It will only tell you if there is a duplicate of your work. I had a few of my posts copied, but it didn't affect my ranking, however, the other sites have since been shut down.
@ Gordi - I am aware of that. What do you use to prevent copying? How do go about reporting the other sites who copied? Thank you.
@Cathy, you can use a plugin to protect people copying your articles, copyscape is used to find out if you have duplicate content
Yea, but the free ones are limited, you need to protect your images too, the best plugins to protect your images and articles are not free. But you can try this out "WP Content Copy Protection" "Copy Protect" plugin.

Hi Cathy,
I forgot to respond to your first question, check out this info, it will tell you what to do when someone copy any of your content:http://www.copyscape.com/respond.php
You can place copyscape banner where you want actually. You can use plugins to protect people copying your contents but if they still do, use copyscape to find your content duplicate and if you find any, you can use the link i sent you to follow up the case.

@Nosafk - Thanks for all the helpful information. I'll research on that and see what comes up.
Cathy, according to Carson, there is really nothing we can do to prevent ANYONE from copying your work if they so wish. Plaegerism happens all the time Your Google authorship will protect you. That's why it's important to establish your authorship.
If you have authorship set up, Google does know who wrote the original content. So no worries about being unfairly penalized for duplicate posts
I wouldn't want to buy any article that was sold for someone else, i can buy a duplicate content without knowing, it won't help my site. Google knows like you said if you are the owner of the article, how about if i want to buy articles? Not everyone there is sincere to sell you original content.
:)
You are right, Kelly, that you can unknowingly buy duplicate content, but why would you buy articles? Create your own.
Hi Gordi,
Do you think everyone is like you in WA?
Why won't people buy articles?
Is it a sin to do so?
One of the reason I made this blog is to help those who normally buy articles, this will help them detect duplicate articles. It may not be useful to you but it is to others. I have never bought any article, I create mine but that does not mean i shouldn't respect others who do.
