Hey everyone. So, I've been hired to write a series of articles covering a topic in depth for someone.

With that being said, I have a few posts that I've written in the

Hi Nick,

No it wouldn't be duplication. Duplicated content is when you are re-using the same content within the same site.

And the other hand, it would be a serious issue regarding the uniqueness of your content. Which is an important factor for the search engines ... and probably also for the person who hired you. Long story short: I would recommend you to create similar, new content.

You're always here to answer my questions, Zed., thank you!

Do you happen to know how different the post has to be for it to be re-considered unique content?

I really don't want to indirectly screw this guy over that's why I am asking all these questions now before I send him the content.

It should be at least 80% unique to avoid any plagiarism-related issues.

I would recommend that you write original articles for your client. Why? Because you should not put your client in the position of being accused of plagiarism. Plus, I'm sure your client is expecting you to write original articles for him since he is paying you to write original content, not to receive the same article you already wrote for yourself.

Think about it! How would you feel if you paid someone to write original content only to find it wasn't original?

I personally run all of my own original articles through a plagiarism checker to ensure I haven't inadvertently matched another author's writing. Many times I have found that some of my own words are matching what someone else has previously written.

If I do that for my own original writings I would definitely check for plagiarism if I was paying someone to write original articles for me!

You can take the influence from your original article then just write a brand new original article for your client.

Better safe than sorry!

Thank you very much for the response. I am definitely going to take your advice and just write a new post.

Out of curiosity what is the plagiarism screener that you use?

That's a very smart idea, and I want to implement it as well.

For years I used Viper, which was an excellent free plagiarism checker. However, in recent years they changed the platform, and it is now a "for pay tool." I was running a lot of articles through that program, and I felt that the payment method would currently cost me a fortune, so I had to switch.

I now use Grammarly. I always used the free version of Grammarly to check for spelling and grammar errors. I felt that it was worth me upgrading to the pay version ($29/mo.). The paid version offers a plagiarism checker. It may be a little pricey, but I think it is worth it because it locates a lot of advanced writing errors that most of us probably never even consider! I have been pleased with all that Grammarly offers.

If I privately publish an article in WordPress and then send it to someone else to publish will it read as 'not unique' for them?

If so, is there a better approach to doi

Hi Nick,

Once is published is live.

When is published privately basically, you are controlling who can see your blog content. WordPress allows you to control the visibility of your posts and pages on an individual basis, but is a live content, so if will be re-published by somebody else, it would be anything but unique content

regards,
Zed

Thanks, Zed. Is there any way to write a post and edit it in WordPress without having it be published?

Yes.

Once you’ve added all your content to your Page or Post you have the option of Saving the Page as a Draft or Publishing the page. Clicking the Save Draft button will simply save your Page/Post.

You are the man! Thank you so much.

Yeah! I'm the man :)

You're welcome!

I'm sorry, I have one more follow up question.

After I save it as a draft in my WordPress how can I send it to the guy who wants to post it on his site?

Sure, no problem ...

The core version of WordPress (i.e. with no plugins installed) has export functionality built-in. You will find the export feature in the main WordPress admin menu in the Tools section.

There aredifferent options available. The first option backs up all content including posts, pages, comments, custom fields, categories and tags.

Alternatively, you can choose to only export posts or pages. You can filter what is exported and only export content from particular categories, authors, date range and publication status.

Once you have decided what content to export, save the XML export file to your computer.

Which can be imported on the other website. The import/export function can be found in the admin menu under Tools.

BTW I guess we are talking about text and images, so probably it would be easier to send your content via email using any common file format like Word, etc.

This is amazing! Thanks again, Zed.

Or if you want an exact replica of your content:

You can share the login credentials, the other person could copy the source code of the page/post (editor text mode) then paste it in his/her own editor

You're welcome!

hello everyone. I had just gotten an offer to write a few blogs posts for someone and I had a few questions on the situation. 1) Whats the best way to deal with them paying me?

My opinion.
If you are writing for someone else, you need to come to mutual agreement on the arrangement which include the payment method and timing e.g. 50% before posting / 50% after posting or 100% upfront with 3 revision and so on. In the case you described, I would think he needs to give you access to the back end of his site for the duration of that 'contract' or agreement.

Joe

I really appreciate your response, thank you. This gave me a much better idea of what the process will be like.

Hey Nicholas,

That would be a question best directed to "mailchimp support" which when Google searched (without the quotation marks, of course) will give you an option to reach out to them for help.

Hope this helps you.

Thank you, appreciate the feedback.
