Visual vs words

In online businesses, images play important roles in conveying one's message across to audiences. In some cases, images play more important role than words or text especially if the topic of discussion is a bit technical.

Can you imagine promoting a Wireless Vacum without an image?

We already have a good collection of free photos in WA which are compiled from various sources. As you should have noticed, most of these images we have in-house are taken from some of the sites I am going to share with you shortly.

To compliment this, I have compiled 57 Free Photos sites where you can get images for your website without worrying about the copyright. All these photos are under Creative Commons Licenses which in general allows you to use these photos without attribution to the .

What is Creative Commons License

Please read all licenses under - Creative Commons

Which Images Are Safe to be used [updated]

Under the Creative Commons CCO Lisence you can use those images or other creatives for free and even for commercial use without attribution to the original owner.

Normally before you download an image from these sites, you can see what type of Creative Commons Lisence attributed to the image. If you can see CCO Creative Commons (see pic) you can use the image freely without attribution to the image owner.

Which site do you visit to find Free Photos?

Please share your sites below.

p/s - Most these images are having huge file size. You may need to compress them before uploding to your site. I have created a blog on why you need to compress your images to make sure your site remains light and not overloaded by the uploaded images.

Pen-off now.

Excellent list Joe and has you say some of the file sizes, we can use TinyPNG for compressing files - a simple process!

Wayne

Thanks Wayne.
Heard TinyPNG before. Will definitely check it out.

Thank you for dropping by James.

I'm sure many will be helped a great deal with this, including myself. Thanks again!

Thanks Joe

You most welcome.

Thank you for sharing, I have been looking for photos for my site.

Sure.
Hope you find good one from one of those sites.
:)

This is good info.
Just make sure that the photos are under the Creative Commons CC0 license.
If they are under any other Creative Common licenses you still have to credit the author and there may be other restrictions on the use of the photo, based on the rules for that.

I have dropped all photo use and started creating graphics and illustrations myself. :)

Good reminder.

How do you create your own graphics? Any tools you can recommend? Thanks for dropping by. :)

I am converting to a flat design type.
Starting with finding a color palette and use only those colors. Have just spent easter redesigning and changing theme on my Norwegian blog using a 21 color palette variation over 3 main colors.

I create all graphics with Paint dot net (Downloadable for free at https://www.getpaint.net/ IMPORTANT: Don't click the big download buttons. Use the very small 'Get it now' at the upper right). This software is easy to learn and have just enough bells and whistles to do the job.

The graphics elements I get from http://Flaticon.com where I have a Premium plan ($89.99/year). To me, it's totally worth the price because I get tools where I can change colors of graphics to fit my scheme, and I can use the graphics without limitations or without credit to the designer. And I can use Flaticon to create graphics for several websites, whether it's my own or sites I do for clients.

Then I combine all of this to make illustrations that fit each article. The benefit of this is that with a use of clean colors and a limitation on the number of colors I achieve a file size of +/- 20kb for a 1080x300 featured article image, depending on if the colors are lighter or darker. You can see an example image below (I hope).

Great stuff Haugland..
I will definitely check that site out.
Sorry for the late reply.
:)

Thank you.
