Finding The Perfect Hosting Source . . . . .

I've built several websites over the past few years, and for every one of them I used HostGator for the hosting service. I've never had a problem with HostGator - neither the product nor the support. They proved to be very realible in my opinion.

I've used GoDaddy and Namecheap for my domain name purchases (mostly Namecheap). I found that GoDaddy is the least expensive (initially), but their website is a bit confusing to me, and they kind of try to lead you along their "hard-sell" path. You have to be careful not to buy something you really didn't mean to buy.

I only recently realized that Namecheap provides hosting services. I'm sure they have been doing that from the time I started using them, but I just never paid it much attention. Everywhere I went for website building info suggested HostGator.

I switched one of my websites to Namecheap hosting and found it to be just as good as HostGator. I admit it was a little less user friendly, but the Namecheap support is excellent, and I was up and running in short order.

The big difference was in the cost. I was paying $9.95 per month for HostGator. I paid less than $10 for a YEAR (for the first year) with Namecheap. The price will go up after the first year, but it will still be about a third of what I paid in a year with HostGator.

I highly recommend everyone check it out to see if it is a good fit for you.

I had some terrible experiences with Hostgator, possibly because I am living in Thailand. They made me verify my account information and without telling me they put a watch and my debit card so that when I went to the market my card was refused.
It's one of the reasons I am here at WA. Their hosting has been stellar.

I've never had any complaints about HG, but I'm in the USA. Their support has always been excellent. However, if we are paying for hosting already by beilng a WA Premium member, it would be foolish not to use it and save paying another hosting company too.

Ditto

WA can host your website for you as part of your membership.

Have to agree with you regards go daddy, reasonable pricing first year, look out when you go to renew and hard to avoid the sells. Mainly use name cheap for domain names now.
Really like Eddy's response, with premium membership you have I think the opportunity to host up to 2 5 Web sites on the WA servers and then include 2 5 on the site Rubix platform. Wow that is such good value.

I hope everyone realizes that your WA membership includes hosting which should be fine for most new marketers. I think the only time you really need to explore external hosting is if you need more technical control over your server. Or if you don't feel you'll be a WA member for the long term so you don't want your site tied here. And if the latter, its very easy to move your site using ftp and a backup plugin.

So hosting really shouldn't be an issue for most new people here on WA.

Excellent point Eddy. I actually had the Namecheap hosting before I found WA.

I'll look into that Eddy (with a "y"). Thanks again.

Glad it made it sense. You can easily move your site over here if you want to save yourself money since you're already a premium member.

Hi Eddy,
I always wonder why people would host outside of WA. Your latter reason is obvious, but.....
Can you give an example of what you mean by "more technical control over your server"? One wouldn't have any more control elsewhere than they have now at WA, would they?

WA limits what plugins and themes you can install from the dashboard. You also don't have a true cpanel. For most users this isn't an issue. And they tend to do this for security and customer service purposes. So that's what I mean in terms of the limitations. Most users wouldn't need or miss these things so there isn't a reason to get external hosting from that perspective.

Thank you! That indeed answers my question, and other questions I had too.
Perfect.
Happy New Year!

They wouldn't need or miss those things possibly because of their entry level into the business. I prefer to have a little more control over things, so the outside hosting is a better fit for me.

And thank you too John.
I hear you.
I fit into the 'most users' for now.
I actually was seriously considering to host my sites at Namecheap, but I can see that my purpose at this time is covered with WA. The day I can't use that funky plugin or theme that I want, or the day I want full use of a cpanel, I will be by your side :-)

Agreed. Most people here are entry level. But for more advanced users it may make sense to host elsewhere. So I understand why you would want it.

Krazykat, most plugins and themes can still be installed using the ftp access WA provides. So even with that you should be fine. I've already mentioned to Kyle the idea of having a higher level hosting option for more advanced users like myself and John. And he's open to the idea. So it's something I'll mention again in Vegas when I see him later in the month. Kyle and Carson are always open to new ideas. It's just sometimes they do things for a business or user reason.

My only comment is that everything I've read said you should keep your hosting separate from your domain purchase. Thoughts?

I've never heard that before, and don't know of any reason why that would be necessary. I've never had any issues come up because of that reason.

I think it had to do with in case you ever had problems with one or the other, it wasn't so interconnected.

Any reliable hosting service will keep you up and running almost 99.9% of the time (maybe more).

I have used HostGator as well, and still have the website. I wanted to switch it over to Namecheap, but had already paid up front for 6 months. After that I am definitely switching to Namecheap. I have my WA website through Namecheap and love it!

They have always treated me good. No complaints whatsoever.

Hi,I also have hostgator.I will check out namscheap.I tried to move my site to WA but they can't do it because I. have an SSL certificate.

Namecheap isn't quite as user-friendly compared to HostGator, but if you've got a little experience under your belt, it isn't so difficult. Plus, their support is excellent, and they can walk you through it if you hit a snag. Can't beat the price, especially for the first year. And even the 2nd year price is a lot less than my HostGator account was.
