Old Unimproved.

How is everyone this post Black Friday Sunday. Are we ready for Cyber Monday tomorrow.?

I was thinking back to when I was a kid and avidly read my favorite magazine, Mad magazine. There were imitators as well. One was named "Cracked"

Back in those Paleolithic marketing days it was the general public against a spoofed Madison Avenue. Madison Avenue represented marketing in those days. People were coming to terms with the capitalistic surge in the US after WW2 and The original Korean conflict.

Espionage was just coming into vogue and there were spoofs (Spy vs Spy) and tidbits about the cold war. Everyone was quaking with fear about the big red mass gobbling up half the planet.

Marketing and commerce had their share of spoofing. Brand names were constantly made fun of. You could be sure the 1955 Desoto was a Junker right off the showroom floor!

One series that got my attention was a made up ad campaign. As I was reading an advisory on Bit Coin this morning I thought of it. The advice was invest only what you can afford to lose!

Rollback sale. "Old Unimproved version special". Old logos were trotted out and put in obscure places in the stores. The shelves were dusty and unattractive. You can search for hundreds of images like the cover image of Mad spoofing on line!

We've come a long way to current Black Friday sales and a virtual market place as mainstream bricks and mortar retail is now relegated to "old unimproved"

I am grateful for the current resurge and awakening in global capitalism which we all depend on. And even more grateful that Wealthy Affiliate has tied into it so expertly.

Now let's get out there and mine the rest of the season specials!

Thanks for sharing, Mike.

Great advice.

These marketing content spinners are pushing the uniqueness of alternate history in storytelling. It's really Pabst Blue Ribbon!

Mad was the greatest and SPY vs SPY what the teenage Road Runner VS Coyote. Thanks for your share and insight. Jay

Never thought of that but y'know you're right! lolsss! heehee

Thank you, I like your take on Mad Magazine. I do caricatures my schooling came from Mort Drucker the famed Caricature Artist and I believe the greatest in the profession.

And nice take on the capitalistic spirit!

Great blog, as always
Thank you
Pure joy

I remember reading Mad Magazine. One time my mother forgot she had brought me to the store and went home and put the groceries away before she realized she left me at the store. She found me sitting at the Magazine racks, reading a Mad Magazine!

Yes, I think the resurgence of capitalism is partly due to the Internet and Amazon. In China they have Ali Baba, which is their version of an Amazon-like site.

Things have changed massively over that period of time, before the mass use of micro-computers, and before the internet. Generally things are much better, but you have to move with the times. The pace of change keeps rising, and you have to move in order to keep up with changed practices or you get left behind, like the old stock on the shelves!
