Site Comments

I haven't done any commenting before, but with the release of Kyle and Carson's, new guidelines with 'Site Comments', I thought, yes, OK I shall give it a go.

Somewhere I read that within the list of interests just tick all!

OK I did, but, for some websites that popped up for members to review and comment on, well, I just couldn't, as I wasn't interested enough and more importantly not knowledgeable enough and of course that then effects my 2o% pass/decline ratio.

So just to get the credits? It doesn't sit well with me. So I have become more selective and deleted some of my ticks on 'interests'. Give you an example; baby milestones, yes I can offer an opinion, but my heart isn't in it. Another Gaming; well I know nothing about gaming, my children, could give heaps of info, but not me!

BUT, there is a great positive side to this!

I have read wonderful website posts, that have enlightened me, giving me different perspectives AND education, stuff I would probably never had sought to find on Google.

So it's been a great idea and incentive of Kyle's and Carson's, how clever are these young men, it is actually another great learning tool for us, as well as a financial benefit for us!

A Win Win situation for WA members

The updated SiteComments system is an improvement for sure, but it's hard for me to believe that K&C are encouraging us to tick the entire list of interests.

The whole point is to create engagement with the online community. Not sure that can be genuinely accomplished when commenting on a blog topic for which we have no interest.

You've done the right thing Michele. Reduce your interest list to those topics for which you have a genuine interest. That is the best way to achieve engagement.

They do tend to stay ahead of the curve.

I learn a lot from looking at others websites, but I agree with you on not reviewing sites I know nothing about. Gaming is one of those for me to. Integrity sorely lacking today. Thanks for having some. Cute baby pic too.

I agree! I think we should only comment on sites we have knowledge or interest in. We don't need to be experts in the topic but we should at least have a genuine interest to keep this on the up and up.

The inspirations that can be gained from others is phenomenal. By reading blogs and websites you can form so many ideas that you had not thought of before.

Hi Jessica,
Thanks, yes, I started to review a couple of webposts and I thought, I can't do this, that's when I started deleting some of the interests ticked.
I enjoy a good read, especially one that grabs your attention and you think, mm.. good one!!

I agree Michele, I only want to comment on topics I am interested in. Some people think this is lazy but I totally disagree. I think comments we leave should be authentic as if we were an interested reader who found the website and was truly interested in the topic. I disagree that we should leave comments on every site.

I am tired of getting comments on my cat site that start with "I don't like cats...". That does not sound like an authentic comment from an interested person. I know the commenter is only being honest so I understand. If someone had a website on a topic I didn't like, I would have to resist the urge to start with "I don't know anything about ..." I am glad we can limit the topics we are interested in.
