Just for Fun Create your First Ebook or Book
(Cover photo: Dall-E generated image)
Hi everyone,
AI might be assisting me reprinting old public domain content, but sometimes its just back to the basics of typing it out.
My 295th ebook that I submitted yesterday was only available as pdf images so I needed to hand type the article from an early 1900's magazine from a well known author.
It was just 4 1/2 pages long.
There are other editions available where he has more articles and they will each become an ebook AND when I have them all typed up then I will put them together as a book which I can copyright as a collection.
I really encourage everyone to just play with this. Don't look it as work or even think about making money from it.
Create your first ebook which can be just a single page long or a short book of 25 pages or more.
Then you'll have the basic experience and you can build from there as you get more comfortable and who knows where you might be years from now.
You can simply search for "public domain books" to find copies available and websites that have many books there also.
You can also just write one yourself. You could take a blog post and create an ebook from that.
I had some blog posts that discussed this sometime ago and I'll post the links here to help.

Love it. I've done some Amazon KDP books. You are right Mel, they are so fun.
The few that have sold are working with a dog non-profit. They do the work, I upload and give them my Amazon affiliate link for their website promotion.
I collect the money and take .99 for each sale and a small percentage and they get the rest. Works well. So fun. My "publishing company" gets the credit.
I have sold some no-content books too.
Others are just for fun, like a book about setting up a letter-writing club 15 years ago, which I did when my son was in 1st grade. I wrote down all the steps and made it a book and eBook.
Working on a couple of other easy content books. I wish I could clone myself with all the projects I have to do!

Thanks for sharing Anne!
Yes, many directions one could go in. I published a bunch of low content books as well.

Hey Mel, thanks for sharing. What app or software do you use to create your eBooks? Also, where can one find any public domain media from images, videos, text, etc.?
You are most welcome Hein!
I just use Word for ebooks and Adobe Indesign for books.
Just search. In USA, Anything before 1925 is in the public domain.
Also a lot of U.S. Govt content is public domain, but you need to double check to make sure. Like NASA photos...etc.

How do you design your eBook cover page, the back page, and the layout designs for every page in between in Word? I use automated software because I never knew it was possible in Word. The manual design must take you a while. I know you can create eBooks easily in Canva; I use Canva Pro for multiple facets of my businesses. It is really powerful, even for YouTube videos and animation videos.
