Introduction to Creating eBooks for your Business
(Cover Photo: Woman reading an ebook next to the pool)
Hi everyone,
(This had been a training that I deleted on WA. I did not want to repost as a training since I already received compensation for it before so I'm just making it as a WA blog post. I believe I will do more training in the future with a step by step approach.)
What is an eBook?
An eBook is an electronic book available in digital form. It can be text, images or both. An eBook can be read on a PC, laptop, Mac, tablet, cell phone and other electronic devices.
An eBook can be an electronic version of a printed book, but that is not necessary. It can also be a stand alone product.
Our focus will be on eBooks for the purposes of this training.
An eBook can be any size from one page to thousands of pages.
I have an eBook selling on Amazon that is only 3 pages long and it has been selling consistently month after month since 2009.

An eBook can consist of strictly original content, public domain content or a combination of both.
Isn't public domain text content just from old books? What value would they have?
Public domain text from books in the USA for example would include all books published before 1925. Many old books still have valuable content for readers so yes, they still have value today.
What is currently public domain content, is going to vary from country to country as copyright laws are different in each country.
When researching public domain text, you can also find modern public domain content such as U.S. governemnt documents and images. Again do the research first so you can learn what you can use and give appropriate credit when necessary.
Selling public domain eBooks is possible, but not easy online as far as selling on Amazon. They have a number of requirements to meet and your public domain title may not be eligible at all. And I am not pleased with the support they offer so for now I have stopped adding public domain eBooks to Amazon. I do still add public domain books on Amazon.
What else can you do with public domain ebooks besides using Amazon?
I prefer to sell them on my own sites or offer them for free and with affiliate marketing I can see all kinds of uses for my eBooks. :-)
What can you do with an eBook?
You can sell it for one thing. I have hundreds of ebooks currently selling on Amazon. You could also sell it directly to your customers via your email list or website.
You can also give it away for whatever reason.
You could offer it as a free gift or bonus to collect someone's email address to add them to your list.
You could also publish it on your website as a resource. I have a resources library website where I posts complete texts of books and I have it set up so they can not be copied by readers. (I no longer have this website)
I do have a facebook page with complete text of some books.
You are only limited by your imagination!
Think and Grow Rich by Napoleon Hill is a classic book that is just as popular today as ever. It has helped create many millionaires up to the present day.
Well the 1937 edition of that book is in the public domain. ALL other editions remain under copyright. I have used Think and Grow Rich as a free offer book before, since it clearly has value and is popular. Others are using the public domain edition as well.
I have also used original content and taken individual chapters of a book and made each one into an ebook to sell at low cost or give for free to create more interest in my book when it is completed.
Do you see what I mean about you are only limited by your imagination?
How hard is it to create an ebook?
It's a lot easier than you might think.
There are various formats that an eBook could come in. A PDF file is still very popular and easy for anyone to create.
For example, once you create a document in Word, Click on File in the upper left, then Save As...
Right below the file name there is Save as type. Click on that and you can choose PDF and it will save your Word Doc as a PDF file and you now have an eBook!
You probably noticed there were many other formats available as well.
This being my first training at WA was meant to be a basic training, but I hope I added enough value for you to see the value in creating your own ebooks or having that outsourced.
I will add more step by step training in the future.
It's another way to add to your bottom line.
I know many people like making money from ads on their websites, but I am still of the school that if I can sell my own products or services on my website then that is more important than ads from someone else. And there is no limit to the amount of products or services that we can create. But everyone is entitled to earn money in the way they choose. That is one benefit of being your own Boss!
Please feel free to like this post/training and I would especially like to hear your comments or questions and I will do my best to respond. Perhaps I can incorporate the info from your comments into a future training.

Great post Mel. I had no idea that an ebook could be so simple to do. And the book example you use is one I'm VERY familiar with, in fact, a recent post of mine was attempting to let everyone in WA know the incredible value that this book, and a couple of others, offers. I did a 3-part series of posts all culminating in these book resources I listed. You can read that post here: Finding Correct Balance Between Positive vs Negative Influences & Associations I want to thank you for this post, and I'll be checking more of your blogs relating to this subject.

This post falls into my perfect timing vault.
On my website I have a few featured products from Clickbank. One is Sqribble.
Once I get past my keyword obstacle, I intend to use Sqribble to create an E-Book so that I can write a review post of the process.
Then I want to create one using Bookrix to create a comparison post. As well as the review and process.
I appreciate you Mel, for your helpful tips!!
Stephen
Thanks Stephen!
