4 Foolproof Motivation Tips For Getting Results
It's so easy to get distracted by the smaller things in life - the dust on the skirting boards, wondering what the next door neighbors doing or even what others think of us. When I find myself getting distracted I normally ask myself three questions.
- Will it matter tomorrow?
- Is this thought or action taking me closer to my goal?
- How will I feel if I'm still in the same predicament in ten years time?
Those thoughts normally gets me focused and back on track again!
Scientists estimate that we have 60,000 thoughts a day. That's a lot of thoughts and each one is either taking you towards your goals or away from them. For most of us we have productive thoughts and maybe not so productive ones and sometimes it can end up like a game of ping pong. You've probably been there - feeling as if you have taken one step forward and one step back. I know I have. Frustration springs to mind and that feeling in itself is a sure way to keep yourself stuck. It's hard to feel motivated when you're being pulled in both directions.
Over time those negative emotions can leave you feeling low on energy and lacking in motivation. Motivation is a key element in building a successful business and certainly puts the spring back in your step.
So how do you get that momentum back?
These are FOUR foolproof tips GUARANTEED to put the fuel back into your engine.
1. Goal cards - write down your goals on small pieces of card and carry them with you everywhere you go. Keep them in your pocket or bag and if you find your mind starts to wander then read through them. Reading them every day really lifts your spirits and gives you a gentle nudge in the right direction. It is a fantastic way to accelerate your motivation!
2. Questions - ask yourself what does my ideal life look like? What won't happen if I don't take action or keep focused? What will happen if I keep on track? This is the moment that I normally get my journal out and start to note down all of my most exciting goals i.e. to learn how to sail, buy a yacht, visit a different country every month , work less, earn more and enjoy life on my own terms. Knowing what I want gives my mind clarity - it's that aha moment and I always notice an immediate shift in my energy levels. More energy equals more motivation so it is a win win.
3. Rewards - Action plan yourself and for each milestone you reach be sure to reward yourself. This can be something as simple as buying yourself a book, having a massage, or even treating yourself to a night out with friends.
4. Get your best friend on board - your mind can even be your best buddy or it can be your worst enemy depending whether it's working with you or against you. If you're telling yourself 'every day gets better, other people have done this so I can do it too, I'm making progress every day' then you know you have it's full support. We all love to hang out with positive people as it creates a ripple effect. We normally spend a lot of times with ourselves so it's a good idea to make friends with yourself. Once you can do that, and your mind is pulling in the same direction as your actions then you'll start to see measurable results.
What kind of things do you do to motivate yourself? I'm always looking for new ideas so please feel free to share.

Your right on point with this Melanie. Besides trying to consistently contribute to the Wealthy Affiliate community, I also like to ask questions no matter how small or big! I find I always get a nice additional tip or two in helping my website efforts progress. I also like to speak about my new blogging occupation with friends and family, as they've become supportive of my new journey, which is surprising to say the least.
We all thought I was going to become a professional accountant. Up until W.A. found its way into my life, that all changed, and for the better! So, I also like to believe that my passion for writing since a child is a good motivator in itself. The more passion you have in what you do, the more motivated one is in acting upon their work efforts.
Thanks for reading, commenting and sharing some tips. I like to read others blogs as that motivates me. Yes it's good to ask questions no matter how big or small. Nice to know that you have the support of your friends and family. I think that can act as a motivator in itself. It's so much easier to do when you have your families support.
Good to hear that you are on the right path and being an affiliate means that you get to live your passion which is good. I agree with you. Passion certainly is the number one motivator.
I agree!
It can get lonely without the support of family and friends by your side, especially in our field. Despite the pro's and con's, in the ends its all about what it is you want to accomplish.
Anyway best of luck Melanie, hope you've enjoyed your first month stay here Wealthy Affiliate!!
