This has been a long way coming and finally something effective is being done about it.
After The Times investigation and by publishing facts and results last week about Google manipulating it's search results to "rule" the Internet to it's favor, Price Competition Websites - like some of Wealthy Affiliate members also have - "across Europe are preparing to file for damages against Google in the expectation that European Union antitrust regulators will slap a hefty fine on the internet company over its shopping service."
"The European Commission’s ruling, which could come as early as this week, follows a seven-year investigation and scores of complaints against Google from American and European competitors,"
This has been a long ride and many website owners, online businesses, and of course just daily users of the search engine giant have been waiting for. Often Google search results are not "generic" while websites should have been ranked fairly and better, however Google has been promoting websites that profit the giant above more relevant search results.

Google might be fined with a $9 billion sum for violating dozens of regulations. The court will treat the case seriously as "our means of recouping some of the substantial losses incurred by our business as a direct result of Google’s illegal practices.” There is 20 to 30 cases being filed in the UK High Court against Google on the same matter that will force the tech giant to change their algorithm and methods less favorable to itself and fair to it's users and the website owners.
I am not sure if this will only affect European Internet users or it will be a global result but the US Federal Trade Commission already closed an investigation against Google in 2013 "arguing that “the law protects competition not competitors”.
"Margrethe Vestager, the European commissioner for competition who is bringing the case, has shown no willingness to settle with Google."
