What Give and Take Means - For The Newbies

I have just had a rather amusing inbox message from a new member and I think that this calls for a little blog post on what exactly a give AND take community means.

It is quite simple really - if you want to receive help from other members you must give help to other members in some form or other.

The message I received was that she is too busy to leave comments in the comment feature to receive comments, but she needs comments on her website. She saw that I was listed as one of the top helpers for comments so she sent me a message to leave her some comments.

Oh my word.... do you know how many comments I had to leave to get on that list? I gave so much time and effort - working late into the night so that I could get comments on my websites!

So to the newbies if you see anyone here is a TOP anything just know that person has grafted their butt off to be there, that person gives a LOT to be where they are. Now while I do love helping others and I don't always expect the same amount back in return I don't just give here to be a nice person. I do it because I need this community to help me.

I do it because it benefits me and my business.

This is true in all walks of life. You can have a "take" attitude or you can have a "give and take attitude". What goes around comes around and if you give you will receive.

One of the amazing parts of this community is its give and take aspect. However this can only work if people give of themselves to others.

Work hard, give of yourself and you will receive from others.

And here's a tip for anyone that is too busy to give comments but wants to receive them - you can buy credits for comments here at WA - so if you don't want to give you can pay.

That's what I normally do now.

Happy Weekend Peeps!

All good points, sometimes I just go to the comment/feedback section and spend several hours building up some credits to have others help me out!

Very well said Lynne and that js so true we are all working hard here to give and receive comments as well as all the help that we need or others need but you can't just message someone and announce that you are too busy to comment would you would love this person to give you comments. It doesn't work that way at all.

That's the sorry thing now though that there are so many people who will take, take, take but never give and then get annoyed at you if you say anything. xxx

Exactly - I've worked so hard to be where I am with my business. I've already done all the elbow grease and I have given to this community to be where I am now yet a newbie arrives and says her time is more valuable than mine and I must work for her.

No I don’t think so Lynne, we don’t mind helping but we can’t do it for them. Xxx

That is funny and crazy- "I can't, but you do."...
Good that you shared...:)

I did have a bit of a giggle at the audacity of it. Like my time is worth less? Oh dear .... ROFL!

Yep...Such people think everybody owes them something....Both funny and sad..:)

I got a good laugh out of the 'no time for commenting' but wanting others to give their time for them...

It is like that in life, too...

Over the years, I have run into many that will probe to see just how far they can push the situation of getting something for nothing or little...

Generally, it is not a good business plan...

There is very little that is free out there, I have always had to use that dirty 4 letter word that is anathema to some: W.O.R.K. That and the adage: Nothing in, nothing out is one of my mantras...

You will see people around you drawing away and business waning with such an attitude of not wanting to help/be there, for others, at least a bit...

Taking the time to help others for no other reason than they need it costs little, or the cost (better stated, investment) is a good one, as all can go and grow...It has to go both ways or the system breaks...

Cheers!

Profound tips, Lynne. That individual that you mentioned, no doubt the inspiration that caused you to write this article, just does not understand the meaning of "community". She expects to get comments posted on her site but is unwilling to reciprocate by investing in the time to do the same for others? Really?

Can you spell "s-e-l-f-i-s-h"? That is the perfect description for that individual. I noticed in reading your article that you did not provide any info as to how you responded back to this same individual who wanted feedback from you, but in return she was not willing to do the same for you. The censure button would probably have been needed based on my knowing you, Lynne. The absolute nerve of that woman!

I hope that this woman takes the time to READ what you wrote in this excellent article, Lynne. She, of all people needs to be educated about what it means to be a part of a community here at WA.

I explained the concept of give and take suggested if she is too busy to comment to get comments that she does what I do and buy them :)

The most appealing aspect of being a member here is just that. The give and take attitude. From Kyle and Carson down to newest member we give to others freely. I was deeply impressed this. The desire to share and really care for the wellbeing of others is priceless. Thanks for sharing this with us.

One good thing is our giving ahead here!

Give and take is the way. Although I don't have much to give yet because of lack knowledge and experience, I can always participate in the community. Even though I'm busy, too.

Of course you have something to give! Everyone does :)

Like you say taking part in the community is giving! leaving a comment here on my post is taking part in the community :)

Asking questions, motivating someone that has lost their enthusiasm... it is all part of being a giver here.

Awwww..no. I do not feel sorry here. I spend most all of my spare time pushing the clock for more. So I can learn and create for my future. You are right. She can just buy them. Will not be as well thought out as yours. :)))

This is a great blog and thank you for sharing

Paul

It is a pleasure Paul :) Funny thing is if she had asked differently I would actually have taken the time to give a comment LOL But to contact me and tell me she is "too busy" to give so I must give to her? No that got my hackles raised.

She was wrong...hahaha... Kind Lynne would have done it! LOL...
And you saved your time...Hopefully that person learned her lesson....
