Amazon affiliate - how to get "global" affiliate links.
So you're a member of Amazon affiliate program in your country, but you get traffic from around the world and you worry that you will not earn commission on the sales they generate?
The only solution to that is signing up to affiliate programs with all amazon websites, that are relevant to your traffic (amazon.com,amazon.co.uk, amazon.ca, amazon.de, amazon.fr, amazon.es, amazon.co.jp, amazon.cn). And installing a plugin that will show specific content to users from specific countries.
The plugin I use is called "Custom Content by Country (from iControlWP)".
You can find and install it straight from your WordPress dashboard.
Once it's installed all you have to do is activate it, than enable few options in the plugin itself and type in your Amazon affiliate ID's where appropriate (also inside the plugin).
When you have it sorted you can post a "global" Amazon affiliate link and earn commission on every sale your readers generate all around the world.
Here's the code to get your links to work:
[CBC_AMAZON asin="put your product's asin number here" country="if left blank it will generate content automatically based on your viewer's location, I have it blank"]"your anchor text goes here"[/CBC_AMAZON].
You can check if it works simply by using a free VPN plugin called "hola" (to install it simply search for "hola vpn" in google). Install the plugin, set the country you want to browse from, clear your browser's cache and refresh your site. Click on your link and see if it takes you to the right amazon marketplace.
That's it, I hope it will help some of you struggling with it ;)
P.S. Make sure that the product you're linking to has the same asin number in all amazon sites that you link to - search for the asin number on each amazon site that is relevant to you).

Hi Lukas, thank you so much for sharing this information.
I have managed to add the plugin on my website.
However, I don't know how to post this link below:
[CBC_AMAZON asin="put your product's asin number here" country="if left blank it will generate content automatically based on your viewer's location, I have it blank"]"your anchor text goes here"[/CBC_AMAZON].
I also am having problems in getting the asin number.
How exactly do I post the link as a widget ....?
Do you mind explaining please.
Many thanks
Hey Gopika,
Bestazon clearly states the following:
"This plugin will localize all your Amazon links, and add your affiliate IDs to the links. All features are free, work out of the box, and no signups needed! That means a better experience for your visitors, and more commission income for you.
Please note that this plugin uses BestAzon locaization service. The service offers choice of two commercial models – Amazon Tag Substitution or a Fixed Flat Fee. You can find more details here"
So I would say that yes, they are providing the same idea. Only their options provided to uses and their popularity differ.
Thanks Triblu.
I installed Bestazon and when checking my web on laptop the affiliate link take me to amazon france (where I live) but when i open the web on a tablet or mobile phone the links go to amazon USA. Any idea why this is happening?
Hey Gopika,
You would need to ask Bestazon for technical support. Not knowing how their scripting works, I cannot answer your question; Sorry.
Hi Lukas
Can this plugin be used with other affiliate links like clinique UK and clinique US etc or does it only work for amazon?
Thanks
Sorry for such a newbie question - but I've installed the plugin - enabled the first 2 options, entered my id for US and Canada.
Originally I had gotten the code from my amazon account and just copied it in - I'm just not 100% sure how to add the shortlink.
Do you just add what you have above to what amazon spits out? or do you replace the code amazon gives you with above? I'm so confused.
Any help you can give is much appreciated! Thanks!
All you have to do is replace the link amazon gives you, with this code:
[CBC_AMAZON asin="put your product's asin number here" country="if left blank it will generate content automatically based on your viewer's location, I have it blank"]"your anchor text goes here"[/CBC_AMAZON]
If you have correctly set up the plugin all you need is the ASIN number of the item you want to promote (every product on amazon has it. and it can be found in "Additional Information" section of the product page) and the code quoted here. You only replace the ASIN number and anchor text of the products you want to promote (this text: "if left blank it will generate content automatically based on your viewer's location, I have it blank" must be removed from the code).
When ready the code should look like this:
[CBC_AMAZON asin="B00BV80Z64" country=""]"Woombie Original One-Step Baby Swaddle"[/CBC_AMAZON]
You should put the code in the VISUAL editor of your site (NOT "text" editor). It should look like this:
"Swaddling has been proven to help babies sleep better, longer, and safer. [CBC_AMAZON asin="B00BV80Z64" country=""]"Woombie Original One-Step Baby Swaddle"[/CBC_AMAZON] has received over 15 awards with its innovative...."
What you will get on your site is this:
"Swaddling has been proven to help babies sleep better, longer, and safer. Woombie Original One-Step Baby Swaddle swaddle has received over 15 awards with its innovative... "
Where "Woombie Original One-Step Baby Swaddle" IS your anchor text = is the visual part of your link. Check the attached files.
I hope it helps, If you have any more questions, just shoot, I'll answer them tomorrow as it's almost 1AM here in UK and I have to get up at 6AM ;)

I think I will need to do this in the future but sounds complicated :-/ I can't understand why amazon don't provide an easier way to do this
It is! I asked to my WA mentor, Nathaniell, and he gave the right way to do this: go to your amazon associates account - tools - oneLink and follow the instructions to add the code amazon made for you to install in your website and redirect people to their amazon nearest online shop.
Is working great for me!
