Overlap in WP Dashboard Menu Problem

I experimented installing and activating the foreign language translation plugin called "Google Website Translator" by Prisna which is said to be compatible with my version of Wordpress. I installed and activated it on my site minihovercraftforsale.com (I thought I would try it on this small site just in case there was a problem).

The plugin worked fine, but I noticed that it had affected my WP Dashboard menu, so that menu sub headings in, for example, "Pages", "Add New" and "All Pages" were superimposed over each other. It does the same thing with other menus' sub headings, making the dashboard difficult and unpleasant to use.

To try and solve the problem, I deactivated and deleted the plugin, but the problem remained and it affects the Dashboard menus of all my websites and not just that of minihovercraftforsale.com.

I now suspect that It may not be due to the plugin, but a WP issue which I hadn't noticed before.

I have read the post "Overlap in WP dashboard menu?" by LelandBest, so apparently, I am not alone.

I cleared my cache as advised but the problem persisted.

This is where it became interesting, I decided to access my site, from my spare laptop, rather than from the laptop I had used to install the translation plugin and I discovered that the problem was the same, on whichever laptop I used. I would not consider myself a techie, but by my reasoning, if I experience the same problem on both laptops, clearing the cache can't be the answer.

Apparently, I am not alone as others are currently having the same problem.

So, to the good news. WA Support have advised me that "This is a temporary issue and will be resolved soon. You can ignore this as no harm will be caused to your site and it's functionality."

So to anyone else with the same problem, we can breath easy and just be patient.

All the best,

Brandon

P.S. I have just updated, (20 September 2015), to WordPress 4.3.1 and that seems to have solved the problem...

That is a problem with the actual plugin itself. It has not been updated for the latest version of Wordpress and the best thing you can do here is to remove the plugin as it is likely causing other issues as well.

You can deactivate it within the Plugins section within your Wp-admin area...you might even need to delete it if the deactivation doesn't work.

There is nothing we can do from a hosting perspective unfortunately as this is the result of either a plugin/theme conflict on your website.

Hi Kyle,
Many thanks for your reply. Yes I have already deactivated and deleted it, unfortunately, it didn't solve the problem. Also, I can't understand why the problem also appears on my other sites, on which I never uploaded the plugin and even when I use my spare laptop, which I never used to work on my sites.
All the best,
Brandon

I'm still having problems with it. No time to fiddle with it now. Getting on a plane to London in a few hours,

I hope you have a great time.

It was a good flight from Australia. Now working out how I can keep up with WA, using just my iPad, as well as care for my daughter's needs as best I can. I'm going to the hospital with her today.

I hope all goes OK.

I had this and another member shared a post from WP I followed the instructions and it seems to have fixed it. something to do with google might help

2

Thank you Katie, I really appreciate the link. I haven't tried the solution yet as I am busy with other things, but I will give it a go as soon as I get the chance.
All the best,
Brandon

it is strange it works for one site but not the other wondering if any of my plugins are at conflict now since the updates

1

Hi KatieMac,
When I deactivated and then deleted the Google Translate plugin I thought that might solve the problem, but it didn't make any difference. Also, I had the same problem on all three of my hovercraft sites, even though I only installed the plugin on one of them. As I said, I even accessed my sites from my other laptop and that didn't make any difference either. I will try the link quoted in the WA link you mentioned. Did the Google solution work for you?

the google thing seemed to work initially though the guy did say disable what looked to be three slugs but I only found two so its back to square one might just have to grin and bear it till they sort it out if I come up with anything will let you know so frustrating

1

The google fix worked for me ... for one day. Then the problem came back. Since it will be fixed in the near future I'll just choose to ignore it.

2

Yeah it worked for me for a day or so I guess we will have to wait it out

1

At least the problem, although irritating, is only really cosmetic, so we will just have to wait for Google or WP to sort it out.
All the best,
Brandon

Hi Allyn,
Yes, we haven't got any choice.
All the best,
Brandon

That we will and as you say it is back office cosmetic

I have just PMed Kyle to ask if WA would contact Wordpress and Google to flag up the problem, so that they are definitely aware that the problem exists, so they can work on a fix. This is just to make sure we aren't waiting in vein.
All the best,
Brandon

You are welcome Kay. All the best,
Brandon

Kay, further to my earlier reply, see the link in KatieMac's reply below. I have taken a quick look, and I suspect it will solve the problem, (if the problem doesn't solve itself).
