When you want to ask for help, ask nicely

Hello all,

I am sorry I have to write this blog, and allthough it is not addressed to all, it has to be said to educate some.
As we are all here as members, trying to help eachother. Some have made it to be ambassador, by just helping and be active on WA.
Ambassadors are not better, or do know more, or getting payed for being one.
They just have more time to give to the community.

So when you want to ask for help by using a PM please consider some politeness.
Start of with,

Hello Loes (or any other name you will address)
I need some assistance, if you have time, can you please....

I hate to say it, but I do get PM's which are rather compulsory.
I am not obligated in any way to help on demand.
And even when I was on WA's payroll, which I am not, it is really a very unpolite way to ask for help.

PM's are also not a way to ask for comments on your website!

Don't get me wrong, I am always willing to help in anyway, but it annoys me immensely when people are trying to manipulate me or do not have the courtesy to nicely ask a question.

And besides that, perhaps a "thank you for your help"?

Have a nice day everyone:)

I was going to post about this myself. Lately I'm receiving a lot of emails from people asking for me to look over their site and leave comments etc. I have helped out a few lately, but when I reply to the message & give them my opinion or whatever it is they asked for I almost never get a reply or a thank you.

I find this really infuriating and now feel reluctant when these mails come in.

Hi Jay, I hope this blog will add some sence into some minds:)

We can hope, some folk are a law unto themselves :)

Perhaps point those asking for advice to read a bit about the rules at - which spells out the rules. Make 2 or 3 reviews before requesting one.

Dennis

Looks like many of them target the top rankers. That's why I try to say under the radar lol

Hiya Loes,

I agree totally as manners to me are everything. For some it seems that they want or deserve to be spoon fed to make their millions. I'm not sure if this is due to the differing cultures as WA has a great diversity, so would like to know if others have experienced this?

Hi Martyn, there are people who even say that I, as ambassador, am responsible for their success.

It is not your responsibility Loes.

I don't know how they are thinking - whether they have paid their money and believe that the people that are ranked well should help them.

They obviously have not followed the course and understand the myriad of information that is given to them and the way this community works. How to deal with this is the question???

All I can say is to treat these messages as spam. Maybe ask Kyle or some of the other more experienced members for advice?

Personally, I would just ignore them or produce a set response that you can copy and paste.

We are a giving community and those that don't contribute will fade away.

Not much in the way of help, I'm sorry, but you are not alone. WA is a supporting family and you get what you give and we will all have to tolerate this at some point I dare say. Jeez, I should stop watching Goodfellas lol.

Don't beat yourself up, it's all part of the process I guess.

Onwards and Upwards - Martyn

;))
And You are!
You are responsible for many peoples success here Loes, bless your Heart.
Thank You

Awww, shucks. I thought I was special getting asked by this person to do that. I see now they pm'ed many.

I am so sorry, but yes, there is some kind of hype

To chime in, it would be nice to say "Thanks for ..." if you've received assistance - in words. If someone spends time and effort addressing your problem, don't just click "Like" and call it a day.

Thank the person that assisted - and make it heartfelt!

Dennis

Yeah, that's also right, but believe me, I have educated the ones who have approched me in a bad manner, they would not dream about it Not to thank me:)

If they can't extend a bit of courtesy, I just unfollow them Loes. That way the only way I may hear from them is PM, and I generally don't get many of them.

Dennis

I was on live chat this morning for a short time and the I was asked by two people what do I do now.It seems new folk are coming on here and think that all they have to do is go into live chat, get all the answers and that,s it,it really does annoy me at times when folk won,t look things up for themselves or do not think of starting the training. Now don,t get me wrong everybody needs a little help at times but I myself have learned that you just have to get on with it,there are lots of other mediums here on how to get help.

It seems there are some here who skip the training and are asking around why they are stuck:)

It shocks me that people can't use some courtesy when asking for help. Luckily I have not encountered this. Hopefully I won't.

Well Tanja, you are allready in the top 100, so you are getting to this point perhaps sooner then you think:)

Uh oh. Perhaps if. I encounter this I will send you after them Loes ;)

I totally agree Loes,

There is never is a need for rudeness.

I think the same person PM everyone in the Top 50 upwards for comment on his site.

Lis.

Hi Lis, that could be, but it is not one, there are multiple askers

Oh. Now that would be annoying and it's very cheeky. I hope that most of them see this post and take note.

Loes, good that you mentioned this about PM asking for comments. I wonder if this is becoming a practice. I also received such requests through personal messages. Jovo

Hi Jovo, I believe that PM's are not meant to be used to ask for comments

Hey, Loes.

Just got my first request to views someones website by PM.

The person was nice in asking but made me nervous they thought I was a guru at this IM.

Larry

I recognize that, and I delete those immidiately, because they are manipulating

You are absolutely right Loes. Common courtesy is unfortunately not so common. :(

That's right Angela
