What is a DDos attack?
The Netherlands has been under fire the last couple of days. The IRS, the banks and the government have been suffering under a severe DDos attack.
But what the heck is a DDos attack?
A DDos attack means that, often through hacked computers of innocent people, huge amounts of data is sent to the main computers of Governments, banks, the IRS or other strategic companies. With as result, the server becomes overloaded, and the website isn't working anymore.
Warfare of the future
The fear is big, that these attacks are going to be THE way of warfare in the near future. Attacks on Energy companies, water supply systems, Governments or traffic systems, to flatten complete infrastructures in a country.

The chaos and destruction that can be caused this way is mind boggling and we probably can't even imagine what's truly possible. Maybe it's best we don't so I can get to sleep at night. :) ~Mark
When banks are attacked, internet banking and ATM is out of order, when energy companies are attacked cities will have no electricity and when servers are attacked, we are out of the internet.
No pleasant thoughts:(
Hi Loes, Yes this is very concerning, as there are many countries and computer systems which are vulnerable to a concerted attack. Let's hope that these Governments make efforts to protect the essential infrastructures.Best Alan
Hi, Loes, in many cases companies and governments make it easier for hackers by continuing to use outdated operating systems and software.
Quite recently the NHS in the UK came under fire from hackers, putting people's lives and health at risk. It was later revealed that they were still using XP after Windows withdrew support in April 2014.
Banks, Building Societies and many international companies have all, at some time, been guilty of poor online security, resulting in personal and confidential data of millions of people being stolen.
Although hackers will always be a problem and will never be eradicated completely, why make it easier for them? After all, if you go away and leave your front door open, it is highly likely a thief will walk in.
Danger signs have been with us all for a while now. let's hoe the protection we have here on WA and in our own systems will be sufficient to repel these attacks.
Thanks for sharing, Loes.

They have, scary isn't it? Here in the US is a major target. Like my Mom always say, prayer is the answer. great share, Loes.
Good Morning Loes,
I am sending you the link to my experience with the "modern" world. Things I did not have a clue about 1 year ago. Beware of Malware Browser based Crypto Currency Miner Greetings from the south of Spain, Taetske
Thanks Teaske, nice to see you again:) Unfortunately, that link goes to your WA blogroll, that means that this blog is taken offline.
Greetings back from up North
Loes, I do not understand. This was my last WA post I wrote around the 15/1. It is related to hacking and I think you missed it, it is still there. My post before that was the explication why you do not see me around, I am now incognito so to speak.
Greetings from the south of Spain, Taetske

Scary stuff ... at least I do feel more protected here. While we've had attacks here, they've got on top of it well.
We are damn lucky here Natalie
