How to use h1, h2 and h3 header tags
"Shedding some light on using h1, h2 and h3 header tags"This is Why h1, h2 and h3 header tags important for SEO
Your header tags are an important part of the SEO factor because they are used to your website is about. The search engines like Google will recognize that your header tags are more important than the rest. Well my friends this will all start with your h1 and will work it's way down in importance to the h2, h3, h4, h5, and h6 ans so it goes. These tags should help support the overall theme and purpose of your page content.
Please keep in mind when writing your content that you can not just throw in whatever content you want into these headers. It is important for you to utilize your header tags with short-tail and long-tail keywords. Each search engine, like Google, Bing etc. will crawl your site, and pick out the headers which will then be recognized as keywords you are using as important to your content.
How to use the h1, h2 and h3 tagsEven though the header tags do extend to h4, h5 and h6, you should really only focus on the first three since these are the tags that carry the most SEO value. Please keep in mind that you can not just go and insert your header tags anywhere and expect to see results. Your Header tags have their own place on your page so you will have to use them in the proper order starting with your h1.
Once you have your keywords the h1 tag should contain your targeted keywords, make sure the keywords are related to your page title and is relevant to your content. The h2 tag is your subheading which should contain similar keywords to your h1 tag. Your h3 will then be a subheading for your h2 and so on. Think of these tags as a hierarchy based on importance, the above being more important than the below. Please note that you should not stuff your h1, h2 and h3 tags with keywords because this will not help but can hurt cause. You will be recognize as someone who is trying to manipulate them — that’s a huge red flag for Google and it will hurt your rankings!
What Does Coding look like?
The <h1> to <h6> tags are used to define HTML headings. <h1> defines the most important heading. <h6> defines the least important heading. The coding should be something like what is shown below:
Remember your h1 tag is the most important tag. Make sure that every page has an h1 tag.
So I really just wanted to shed some light on My original Blog post on Creating Valuable Content. I hope this helps give some clarity on what how to use the header tags properly in your content.

Hey Lorraine, thanks for providing this info, it was exactly what I was looking for. Also, your link to the blog post "Creating Valuable Content" does not point to the blog. I was able to find it using the link under the list, but I just thought you should know.
Thanks for sharing the code for tagging h1, h2, h3, etc... Just watched a training video by Kyle and wanted to add subheaders to my content, but could not and STILL can't find the option to add these tags.
Based on comments below, there is supposed to be a "Paragraph drop down box on left side"??? But nope, nothing. Not even under Tools, like what someone said.
So I've since manually added the code (as per your advice). I think Wordpress has changed its layout or UI? If anyone can point me to where these tags can be found, that would be awesome. Thanks in advance!
Hello Lorraine
Does your WP page menu look like screenshot 1
Does it look like screenshot 2
If it does you should have access as shown in screenshot 3
Most people work with a plugin that gives them other options.
But you should still have everything as shown in screenshot 3.
You have to click the Toggle icon (screenshot 2) to get the whole menu.
If you're still stuck get back to me ok.
Have a nice day.
Robert
Thanks for the detailed reply, Robert!!! I really appreciate your effort in including screenshots to better explain the process.
I asked this question in the WP Classroom, but also found a reply by chance by myself on Google... Where do I find the h tags? I felt extremely silly after realising how easy it was, and realising the Toolbar Toggle button (as described by some WA members) isn't the same as the Tools button on WP left column menu bar!
Again, thanks so much Robert. See you around WA :)
No need to feel silly I myself make silly mistakes every day.
Working with WP is a learning curve in itself never mind the rest of what you have to do to get an article/blog to the publishing stage.
It will all come to you eventually just take it slow and master one thing before you move on to the next and when they all come together you have cracked it.
Have a great Sunday.
Robert
Thanks for your encouragement, Robert. You're right, there's so much to learn! Will take it one step at a time; sometimes one can get impatient and wish they'd wake up knowing everything there is to know (Like Neo in The Matrix) - plug and play!
Cheers, Robert.

No probs, just drop me a line or two if you get stuck.
Seems like I got your name wrong.
I'm sure i saw it as Lorraine and not Pam.
Robert
No worries, Robert.
I realised why - the author of this blog post is Lorraine (Lmiller252), while I'm another member who commented on this discussion thread asking for help on the same topic! :)
Geez. Thanks a ton. I had no idea what h1-6 even meant. Didn't know they were good for anything except for making your content look neater and separating points of focus.
yes i just learned how in 3rd course lesson one and i amazed at my knowlege now. all page titles are h1 and contain keyword/phrase and important highlighted ideas are h3. H2 is like title of the topic of that main page. You have several h3 tags but not more than 5 cause then you writing to much lol. The h3 are bolded thought i guess you would say and not a repeat of key words or google get mad Other keyword area is first paragraph but not first sentence ever lol. And toward end or middle and no more than three a good bet on keyword insertion. Good luck y'all. -tammy
When you edit a post, look for the paragraph drop down box on the left side. There is an arrow and the headings tags are listed
Thanks for the easy to understand explanation. Looks like I have some work to do on my previously posted material.
Just what I was looking for, and presented in an easy to digest way. Thank you Lorraine!
Very informative and you have cleared up a problem with the header for me. I think though, that you should remind us by showing how where to access it
