Hey WA, I got to thinking the other day about how impacting it could be if I were to have my own logo. I have a bit of artistic skill, and I've got some digital art mediums I h
I'm going out on a limb here, but judging by the fact that you drew your profile image I assume you enjoy doing artistic things. I say go for it. I made my websites logo and really I'm not sure if it made any real difference lol. I have gotten compliments as well as negative feedback, but hey... most reviews on the band KISS said they weren't going to make it when they first started over 30 years ago!
So again I say go for it, have fun with it. Every brand has a logo, and most make small changes as they go too.
Thanks for the vote of confidence. Maybe it'll be worthwhile. As you say, I can change it as I develop more, I hadn't considered that. I do a music blog site so maybe the mark could become recognized with the brand I'm trying to build? Here's hoping. I don't suppose I have anything to lose after all.

Brainstorming you could make 2 soundwaves to look like D's for Duey Decibel? just a thought!
Ha! We're on the same wavelength apparently. I've got a smirking Dot in the center that stands for the Decibel mark, and that dot is wearing headphones, each with a D on the cups. Behind it is a subwoofer, so it looks like a body. Four soundwaves are blasting out of the headphones to make it look like a spiders legs, so its basically a smirking subwoofer spider.
Good advice. I was actually kind of stumped about that. Simplifying it would be a good idea for alternative representations. I really appreciate all your engagement here.
Sounds pretty cool as say a homepage image. I'd suggest making your actual logo simplified, maybe a big Soundwave D and the smirking dot with headphones? I mean look at say Wealthy Affiliate its just the WA or Facebook is just the blue square with an F. Just try not to make it too much like "The Daily Dot"'s logo (olde English "D.")
Not a problem! Actually helps me rethink mine even.. I made more of a whole image kind of and should make a simplified version.. mine is reviews on opportunities "DoubleAMarket" I've been thinking about making my logo something with the letters "DAM" and was thinking about making reviews say "DAM good" or "DAM awful" lol just not sure how well that would go over for readers... but vulgarity in any degree doesn't seem as frowned upon as it used to be... might actually help nowadays lol might be worth a go?
I think you should put a focus more on slightly crude humor as opposed to vulgarity. I hope that whoever sees it doesn't have a prudent perspective on it, because lets be honest. Losing money to scams is DAM awful, and it'd be a DAM good thing to find something worthwhile that you can build into a successful business in full confidence in not only yourself, but the community around you.

Overall your main concern is whether or not your logo looks professional and can help you connect with your audience. Your logo is a key element of your branding. It represents you and your business to the world. You have to be sure it is sending a message that you are happy with.
When it comes down to how you might do it. You could draw it. I would pull out rulers and grid paper if I were going to do my logo. This is because you want the proportions to be good. Then after you have drawn a basic outline, one would simply scan the image into their computer and import it into photoshop. Once in photoshop turn on the black paint brush after having first created a new layer, then trace the whole outline of the image you have drawn. Now you have digital version of your image you drew. Once you have the step down, being sure that there are now grabs and the image is sealed, you can begin creating new layers and painting in and editing the image.
If you are serious about drawing your own logo I definitely wouldn't recommend rushing through it. You need to be careful to keep your image clean and professional. This process can be tricky. Even though I can draw I have yet to draw, my logo or any of my graphics as for now it is easier for me to get them from alternate sources.

Sage advice. Very much appreciated. I had only done rough sketches free handed, but with a cleaner look, it'll pop more and be more recognizable and pleasing to the eye. I even know how to do the process you just described, and there are youtube videos on that. Thanks a lot, man. I'll be sure to hold my anticipation and make sure I put as much effort into it as possible.

Hey Keith, forums are great regarding traffic and activity on your site, this can also be a grey area. It is a great opportunity for spammers and trolls alike. If you are seriously thinking about it, firstly and most importantly are your forum rules off conduct. If you get this right you can create a secure and friendly environment. Get it wrong and all hell can break loose. Here is a food for thought example my friend and hope this helps.

I really appreciate the help. I always say, If someone's stepped in doodoo before me, I can ask them what it smelled like and keep my shoes clean. (I...I-I've never actually said that)

Didn't think to do that, though it makes sense to, given the nature of hyper links in the first place. Thanks for the insight! I really should have been able to solve that on my own.

you should not let anyone else use your site except for you. Close off the user signup. Email signup is OK but not to let someone use your site they will hack it..

Wait, actually are you certain? I'm using a buddy press plugin on my site as social software. It has forums and things. Should I wait till my site is up and running full sail before trying to add community features and functions and things?
