How To SEO A YouTube Video
I get asked a lot about video marketing and doing SEO for a video.
So I thought I would share with you a teaser video for the WA I created a little while back.
I re-did the video a little and surrounded it with totally new SEO and I want to share with you the SEO behind the video.
The link for the video is below.
Just like when you SEO your post or pages you do the same with your videos.
When I create videos yes I want to be on top on youtube but I also want to be on the top of Google's rankings for my keywords as well. That's the main goal is Google rankings.
So...
1) My headline is my keyword phrase
2) I've used that phrase in my first paragraph
3) I've written a natural unique description, over 300 words. Make sure you write a long description YouTube and Google can't watch or listen to your video (yet). So they lean heavy on the text so they can understand what your video topic is about.
Plus YouTube uses keywords in the description to rank you for super-long tail keywords. So no short descriptions.
4) I have relevant links within my description
5) I encourage people to subscribe to my channel (I must admit I focus more on getting ranked in Google and getting people to my site then getting people to subscribe to my channel)
6) I have added my keyword phrase to the end of my description as well as the link to the video - this is another way of branding your video in the description
7) I have my keyword phrase as a tag along with other keywords phrases as tags including the name of my domain.
I have my domain name in every video. Youtube uses tags to index a video within it's search engine having my domain name in every video provides me the opportunity of related videos of mine to show up in the sidebar under Related Videos.
Look at the sidebar and you will see related videos of mine.
These are some of the main SEO things you should do with your video and I hope this helps you when you use videos for your marketing.

Great information and very relevant considering I just created my first video and created my youtube channel. Feel free to take a look. I'd love to get your feedback, as this is still new to me.

Also, if you get the transcription of your video when there is talking in it, if you posted this to your site, would it be considered duplicate content?
And...can you post the same video to other video hosting sites like, Vimeo or would that also be considered duplicate content?
Thanks, Leo!
Howie
Treat your videos as you would content.
If you upload the video to a different service - use a completely different title and write a new description
The video looks great - you're using Pow Toon software - correct
Yes and great advice. So as long as I change those things, I am safe to post on other sites, correct? And yes, got a great deal on Powtoons pro. Very happy so far. Thanks!
Yes I create all my videos - I use camtasia - plus I have many other programs and keyed elements like the ones you saw in the video
Sorry Leo I asked the same question as someone else below. Should have read comments first. Thanks for rely!
Hello Leo.. I really liked your YouTube video. I just started making my first screencast simple videos. It is so much to learn for me... Which program do you use to make your videos? It is pretty entertaining and informative. I am not in a money making niche. Thank you. Tanya
thank you
I use camtasia as my video editor - plus I have a lot of other programs - plus tons of keyed elements like the ones you saw in the video.
Keep playing with things - the more you do the better you will become - just remember to have fun.
Hi,
Why don't you put your primary keyword in the last paragraph?
I see 3 instances in the first paragraph alone but none at the bottom.
Just wondering.
My keyword is only in the first paragraph - I do have other keywords throughout my content.
However like writing a post or page you just write naturally - if it fits or you want to use it go ahead.
But you will notice after my salutation in the description I have my keyword phrase
I know and using related keywords is good as Google puts weight on those and might rank you for those equally to your primary keyword. However, I think you should put the primary keyword at least once in your last paragraph. Test it out :-)
It's a shame that we cannot use simple html in the description field or we could hyperlink the keyword to our website.
I would love that - but you know that would get so abused if we could use HTML
I have a couple of hundred videos in another niche and I have over 100 first place ranking and I have no keyword in the last paragraph other than how I mentioned it after the salutation.
But It's something I could test for sure, ever bit helps.
Thanks
It's just that I have been taught this SEO method and been using it for years so I was really wondering :-)
